Exactly 10 years ago #GodotEngine became #FOSS. I joined the community in late 2015 and made the first prototypes in early 2016.

And during the hardest time between G3 and G4 I donated ~$300 over the years and glad to see how the project grew 😊

And #Valve is doing its thing again: Steam 3D Audio is now Open Source under Apache 2.0 license!

There is a GitHub repo and Blogpost on Valve website where you can learn more on terms, goals, etc.

The Mirror, started as #GodotEngine fork turned into the #Roblox kind of app, is now becoming #FOSS.

So the app developers will cut their fee on additional content and features but overall the app and the server are now open source. Which means instead of making yet another Roblox, like The Core and Everywhere (by BaRB), they are making "the app to make yet another Roblox of your own". Which may be a wise move.

The new #Free testing tool for #UnrealEngine have been open sourced by its developers (ex-Riot).

Friendshipper is a desktop application for viewing and downloading builds of an Unreal project. It can be used in one of two modes β€” tester and contributor.

FSR 3.1 by AMD is finally fully Open Source, including Frame Generation. Which means: more engines with frame gen will be availalbe for a wide audience in the next few years!

Yep, #Microsoft is chaotic, but did you know they have Free and Open Source Emojis pack? (MIT License)

Oddly enough: you can't just use an emoji in your game or media without checking who owns the specific one.

There is a free (GPLv2) Background removal tool that do not rely on a specific GPU and works as an OBS plugin on Windows, Linux, and macOS.

Unlike NVIDIA Broadcast, it can remove backgrounds from anything, including still images of objects! And it is way more flexible even when separating people.

Shit hits the fan moment for #GodotEngine! If you missed the drama β€” a few days ago an indie developer shared her new project where you don't have any combat and simply a delivery person in the 13th century Mongolian empire. Some very odd folks criticized…
It's not OPEN SOURCE anymore if you ban people on GitHub for different political views… there are unfortunately more and more examples like this.

Yes, they kinda able to make another account, but it's not the point: open source policies suggest that such limits can't be applied at all for social reasons.

To prepare for a possible shutdown from Unreal and Unity, the Russian government decided to sponsor a new fully custom and Open Source Engine, called Nau. It's finally in beta, so everyone can try it out! The UI is provided in both English and Russian and the project is hosted on GitHub.

Some features, like Rendering components were given by Dagor Engine (the one that is used by War Thunder). The editor right now is very minimalistic and the documentation is very limited. As we all like!

It took them only 20 years since GIMP 2 and 7 years since the announcement of v3 development to finally release GIMP 3!

Now the app has non-destructive editing with text layers that keep text information, with filters that can be applied and combined on the go, etc.

Oddly enough, NVIDIA decided they need some good news too and finally open sourced the GPU kernel for Physx.

For a few years their physics library was open source in general, but was able to run on a CPU if NVIDIA GPU wasn't found. Now it's in the past and 3rd party GPUs may become compatible.

They also messed up with RTX 50, which is on a hardware level unable to run 32-bit Physx in old games. It may be fixed by some software tricks now.
