There was Unite 2024 (#Unity conference) and they announced way more than just the end of Unity Fee:
β They are now focused on making it solid β all the DOTS and other modules will be integrated into the core, URP and HDRP are going to merge into one scalable pipeline, and more.
The engine should not be a mess of semi-usable blocks. But the majority of big changes are planned for Unity 7. While Unity 6 is aiming to make it finally easy to move from one version to another without breaking literally everything in the project.
