New physics engine for #Godot4 – the installation is surprisingly simple, just place it to the add-ons folder and enable. Then change physics engine in the project settings and restart.

Jolt Physics was used in Horizon Forbidden West, for example. In Godot it supports Terrain 3D plugin, so you will be able to use it for open world games.

Jolt Physics has been merged into the Godot Engine core as the alternative to their broken native physics! It will be released in 4.4 stable early next year.

For the last couple of years (in both Godot 3.x and 4.x) the native 3D physics was broken. It was created in three months, replaced their previous 3rd party solution, but was instantly abandoned (the creator left the team). And for over a year Jolt was a plugin to solve this.

Jolt is fast and stable, it's being used in many AAA games, like Horizon Zero Dawn. It's supported by several popular Godot plugins, including Terrain3D.

YES: Driving in GTA IV was awesome β€” complicated, heavy, but memorable and entertaining in every second.

Driving in GTA V suck, it's soulless, has no challenge, no weight, no unique feeling between cars. Driving an SUV and a sport car is absolutely identical.

Another amazing news: RTX 50 cards are unable to run PhysX in older games, since some of these titles rely on 32-bit version while RTX 50 only works with 64-bit one.

The list of affected games includes Borderlands 2, Metro: Last Light, AC Black Flag, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfare 2, Mirror's Edge, Mafia II, Batman: Arkham City, and more (full list).

Oddly enough, NVIDIA decided they need some good news too and finally open sourced the GPU kernel for Physx.

For a few years their physics library was open source in general, but was able to run on a CPU if NVIDIA GPU wasn't found. Now it's in the past and 3rd party GPUs may become compatible.

They also messed up with RTX 50, which is on a hardware level unable to run 32-bit Physx in old games. It may be fixed by some software tricks now.
