Meanwhile, #Meta shuts down Ready at Dawn — the studio behind several #PlayStation hits like The Order 1886 and Lone Echo VR.

Unlike many other companies during this wave of layoffs, Meta will try to keep as many people as possible within other departments.

And #Microsoft is killing Paint, not the main app but its funky brother Paint 3D. It was a nice thing for kids but it never became a worthy tool for workers (while they would love free but simple alternatives to #Blender).

The app originally appeared during the #VR boom, when Microsoft dreamed of using it for Mixed Reality headsets Holo Lense.

Meta Quest 3s — a cheaper $300 version of Quest 3 with worse lenses and displays. If you remember the blurry peripheral vision in Quest 2, this cheaper one has exactly the same issue.

But for me the biggest doubt is still content: Half-Life Alyx is the best game ever. I've played it in VR and it was an exceptional experience. But there are just no games worth bothering anymore.

What do you think? Will you buy it for $299? #VR #Meta

Yes, but also no: Meta Ruined VR...

1. META closed too many games and studios, including projects that were iconic for fans
2. It took too long for budget 3s to arrive, while expensive Quest 3 sold 20 times fewer units, than Q2 at its time
3. Retention of VR usage is low and mostly focused in VR spaces, not homes and definitely not offices
4. AR didn't work for the majority of people, even Apple failed and shutting down Vision Pro production

But reality is: I still want to hop back into it. #VR is still oddly inspiring!

UPD: I've checked and today is clearly not April 1st... 🤔

Meta bricked a significant portion of its VR headsets with what was supposed to be a Christmas update.

Unlike Intel who hid their heads into sand during 13/14-gen failure, Meta promised to replace devices that were permanently damaged and brought extra stuff for the support.

Google acquired HTC VIVE and the XR Teams plus non-exclusive use of license for 250mil USD in cash.

HTC Produced headsets for Valve and were a popular smartphone brand with over $50B market cap once. They were falling ever since, but still curious.

Pimax VR was running a special rewards program where users could get Steam gift cards and even trip to their headquarters from making reviews on websites.

Just to be clear: their devices were ahead of time, but this is a very questionable business practice.
