📩 Question:

The questioner asks: a woman’s husband passed away and left her with a son and daughter, and she spends on them from their father’s wealth which he left behind. Is it allowed for her to give charity on behalf of her parents from her children’s money?

📝 The answer:

She should give charity on behalf of her parents from her share, for she also has a share in her husbands wealth. As for the childrens wealth, then Allah (سبحانه) says:
{وَلا تَقْرَبُوا مَالَ الْيَتِيمِ إِلا بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ}
“Do not go near the orphan’s property, except with the best [intentions]”

So she must not give charity using the wealth of orphans, rather she should give charity from her own wealth that Allah (جل وعلا) has given her.

📩 Question:

What is the ruling of selling alcohol to the disbelievers in non-muslim lands? Some muslims sell it to them and they say: some scholars issued verdicts of its permissibility, and that I have good thoughts of Allah that he will forgive me?

📝 The answer:

Selling alcohol in non-muslim countries is haram, and it is not permissible, and it falls under the hadith:
"Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) cursed ten people in connection with wine:
the wine-presser, the one who has it pressed, the one who drinks it, the one who conveys it, the one to whom it is conveyed, the one who serves it, the one who sells it, the one who benefits from the price paid for it, the one who buys it, and the one for whom it is bought."
Reported by Tirmidhi on the authority of Anas

And this verdict is false, that it is permissible to sell it to the non-muslims. This verdict is false and in contradiction with the legislative evidence. And no one from the companions of the Prophet, ever gave such a verdict, and the four famous schools of thought all said that it is haram, so it is not permissible for any muslim to rely upon such bogus Islamic verdicts which are in contradiction with the evidences.

Rather, ‘Umar bin al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) used to take jizyah (tax) from the jews, and he told the companions:
إذا أعطوكم خمراً فلا تأخذوه، يبيعونه بأنفسهم
“If they give you alcohol, do not take it from them. Let them sell it amongst themselves”.
And he only took dinars and dirhams from them.

He said: “if they give you” i.e., alcohol as jizyah, don’t take it from them, “and for them is to sell it.” i.e they themselves will sell it. Then they will give you dinars in return for the jizyah.

And this shows that ‘Umar (رضي الله عنه) views the impermissibility of a Muslim selling alcohol or to receive it.

And if a Muslim is to do this, then his earnings are haram, and filthy, and the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
(لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ لَحْمٌ نبَتَ منَ السُّحْتِ، النَّارُ أَوْلَى بِهِ)
“Flesh which has grown out of what is unlawful (i.e. income) will not enter paradise, but hell is more befitting for it”.
Reported by Ahmad on the authority of Jabir bin ‘Abdullah

And it is not permissible for a Muslim to be persistent upon a sin, and to use forgiveness as a proof. For Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) says:
{ٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ}
"Know too that Allah is severe in punishment yet most forgiving and merciful."

So the one who is persistent upon sin without repentance, he is at threat for his sin, and as for the one who repents and has remorse, then Allah will forgive him.

As for staying upon the sin, persistant upon it, and to say: ‘Allah is The Most Forgiving, Most Merciful’, this is not allowed for him to do.

Is it allowed to indulge in zina (illegal sexual intercourse), and then say: ‘Allah will forgive me, I have good thoughts?’ or to disobey ones parents, and to hit ones father and mother, and then say: ‘Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful’, or to indulge in zina with one's sister and then say: ‘Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful, I have good thoughts of Allah’, we seek refuge with Allah from such speech, this kind of speech is bogus, contradictory to the legislative evidences, and it is not permissible for a Muslim to listen to such whisperings from the outcasted shaytan.

📩 Question:

The questioner says: A woman buys a piece of fabric to use as a cover for her mattress, and she did not pay attention that it had pictures of animals on it. Is it permissible for her change it to pillow, or as an armrest?

📝 The answer:

It is not permissible for her to use the fabric, whilst the imagery is clear. However, if she is able to put a piece of it on the head, suchso that the image of the head disappears, nothing remains except half of the head or less from that for example, then there is no issue in that. So if she is able to do that, then she must do so, and if she isn’t, then she must destroy it, and Allah will compensate her with good.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Verily you do not leave something off out of fear of Allah, except that Allah will replace it with something better than it”.

📩 Question:

The questioner says: The hadith:
لاَ تَدْخُلُ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ كَلْبٌ وَلاَ صُورَةُ إِلاَّ رَقْمًا فِي ثَوْبٍ
“The angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image of an animate being except for a figure on a garment.”
What is the ruling of this addition, and what does it mean?

📝 The answer:

The addition is authentic, and it is in Sahih Muslim from some chains of transmission, in the hadith of Abu Talha al-Ansari

And the intent is that which occurs from there being some images on garments. And from the scholars are those who interpreted it to mean those images of things without souls, and from them are those who interpreted it to mean those pictures which are not distinct and clear.

And similarly, what occurs from cutting some parts of it, such as some of its head. Many of the scholars interpreted it as that which is not apparent from the images on garments.

As for a clear image on the garment, then this is included in the prohibition, the proof being the Prophet (ﷺ) saw a curtain which had images on it, so the Prophet (ﷺ) tore it, and was angered by it.

As for if the images were of things without souls then it is permissible, except if it distracts people, especially if he is in prayer and there is someone behind him praying and looking at it and becoming distracted by it. So clothing with images on it is not advised in totality.

May Allah grant us and you success.

📝 The answer:

If it is not clear, and not distinguishable, then it may fall under the hadith:
(إلا رقما في ثوب)
“except for a figure on a garment.”
Reported by Muslim on the authority of Abu Talha

As for if it’s a clear image, then it is not permissible and it is from the major sins, as has preceded, so that which is obligatory is to stay away from that.

📩 Question:

The questioner says: The Hadith of Abu Hurayrah in Sahih Muslim:
(لَا تَبْدَؤُوا اَلْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى بِالسَّلَامِ, وَإِذَا لَقِيتُمْ أَحَدَهُمْ فِي طَرِيقٍ, فَاضْطَرُّوهُ إِلَى أَضْيَقِهِ)
“Do not greet the Jews and the Christians before they greet you and when you meet any one of them on the roads force him to go to the narrowest part of it.”
Does this ruling include the Jews and the Christians who are not Harbi (at war with the Muslims) or is it specific for those who are Harbi?

📝 The answer:

As for the Harbi, then the Muslim doesn’t intermingle with him. the Harbi doesn’t remain settled amongst the Muslims unless it’s for an extenuating circumstance. Such as if he is seeks security for a need and then he leaves after his need is satisfied, or he is a messenger for the non-Muslims, or he entered for a need and so he was given security until his need was satisfied.

And also amongst the midst of the non-Muslims, it is not permissible for the Muslims to intermingle with the non-Muslims and to remain amongst them, rather it is obligatory for the Muslim to make every effort to leave being amongst the non-Muslims, and distant themselves from intermingling with them.

So the Hadith mentioned is with regards to the Jews and the Christians who are under the protection and covenant of the Muslims, for they are the ones that intermingle with the Muslims. Ahlul Dhimmah (under the protection of the Muslims) and Ahlul ‘Ahd (under the covenant of the Muslims), those who pay the Jizyah (tax paid by certain non-Muslims in exchange for their protection), they are the ones Allah commanded for us to abstain from if they give the Jizyah.

{حَتَّىٰ يُعْطُوا الْجِزْيَةَ عَن يَدٍ وَهُمْ صَاغِرُونَ}
“Until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.”

They are the ones that if they intermingle with the Muslims then they are to be treated in accordance to this Hadith. They should not be initiated with giving Salaam, and if they start first then they should be responded with “Wa‘alaikum” as has come in another Hadith, the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
(إذَا سَلَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ فَقُولُوا: وَعَلَيْكُمْ)
“If the people of the Scripture greet you, then you should say (in reply), 'Wa'alaikum (And on you).”

And they are also the ones that you can force to go to the narrowest part of the road as they are under the protection and covenant. So if you find him on the road then the Muslim walks in the middle of the road whilst the Jew and Christian walk on the sides. So the intent of this Hadith is Ahlul Dhimmah.

📩 Question:

The questioner says: What is the ruling of shaking the hand of an old woman who is sixty years old?

📝 The answer:

It is not allowed to shake hands with women (non mahrams) even if she may be old in age. For the elderly it is permissible for them to remove their outer garment which covers their face, and likewise it is allowed for them to leave off covering the hands. As for shaking hands then this has not been permitted for them.

And the Prophet ﷺ said:
(لأن يطعن الرجل برأسه بمخيط من حديد خير له من أن يمس امرأة لاتحل له)
“For one of you to be stabbed in the head with an iron needle is better for him than that he should touch a woman who is not permissible for him.”
Reported by Al-Tabarani on the authority of Ma’qil bin Yasaar and its chain of transmission is authentic.

And A’ishah (رضي الله عنها) said:
مَا مَسَّتْ يَدُ النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يَدَ امْرَأَةٍ قَطُّ
“The hand of the Prophet ﷺ never touched the hand of a woman”
As has come in the Saheehayn on the authority of A’ishah

And also in the Saheehayn on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) that the Prophet ﷺ said:
(واليدان تزنيان وزناهما البطش)
And the Zina of the hands is the lustful grip”

📩 Question:

The questioner says: Are the bride dolls sold in the markets, which are made for young girls included in the impermissibility of image making?

📝 The answer:

The closest view, and Allah knows best, is that it is included in the impermissibility because they are clear-cut statues. As for the fact that ‘Ai’shah (رضي الله عنها) as has come in the Saheehayn:
أنها كانت تصنع البنات من العهن
“She used to make dolls from wool”.

Then this is the action of a small child at that time. She was a small girl who would interlock parts of wool, fabric and linen. What could a little girl possibly make? So at that time it was permissible in the legislation.

As for in this manner that is present in the stores and markets, clear-cut statues, then that which is apparent is the prohibition of it, and that it falls under the Hadith:
(أَشَدُّ النَّاسِ عَذَابًا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الَّذِينَ يُضَاهُونَ بِخَلْقِ اللَّهِ)
“Those who will receive the severest punishment on the day of resurrection will be they who imitate what Allah has created.”
And this is an imitation, so it is obligatory to abandon and distance oneself from it, and it is impermissible to sell it, and Allah knows best.

📩 Question:

The questioner says: If the image has been made into cushions which are sat on, is it discluded from the impermissibility?

📝 The answer:

Some of the people of knowledge mentioned that if the images are on cushions then it is not included in the impermissibility, and the closer view is that it is (included in the impermissibility), even if it be made into cushions which are used for sitting against.

And the evidence for this is the Hadith of ‘Ai’shah (رضي الله عنها) in the Saheehayn whereby she said that the Prophet ﷺ said to her after she had purchased a cushion with pictures on it:
(مَا بَالُ هَذِهِ النُّمْرُقَةِ)
“What is this cushion?”
She said:
“I bought it for you so that you might sit on it and take rest.”
And so the Prophet ﷺ rebuked her and said:
(إِنَّ أَصْحَابَ هَذِهِ الصُّوَرِ يُعَذَّبُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ)
“The owners of these pictures would be tormented on the day of resurrection.”
And he said:
“Those who will receive the severest punishment on the day of resurrection will be they who imitate what Allah has created.”

So the Prophet ﷺ ordered her and it was cut it up (the cushion)

She said:
and we made two cushions from it”

Which means that the cutting got rid of the images, and so they made two cushions from it.

So the correct view is that even if they are cushions, it is obligatory to remove it.

Being lax with regards to these sins are a cause of the heart to be hardened and a cause for Shayaateen to enter the houses and the exiting of the Angels.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“the angels do not enter a house in which there is a picture or a dog”

Agreed upon on the authority of Abu Talha al-Ansari And we ask Allah to pardon us.

📩 Question:

The questioner asks: What is the ruling of a man shaking a womans hand with the excuse that she is his work collegue?

📝 The answer:

This action is from the Haram affairs, shaking hands with women is from the Haram affairs, i.e. shaking the hand of a foreign (non-mahram) woman.

Al-Tabrani narrated from Ma’qil bin Yassaar (رضي الله عنه) who said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
(لأن يطعن أحدكم على رأسه بمخيط من حديد، خير له من أن يمس امرأة لا تحل له)
“For one of you to be stabbed in the head with an iron needle is better for him than that he should touch a woman who is not permissible for him.”

And the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
(إني لا أصافح النساء)
"I do not shake hands with women.”

And when the Prophet (ﷺ) took the oath of allegiance from the women, he would take it by speech, and he is the Messenger of Allah, he is in the place of a father for this nation, and with that he (ﷺ) did not shake the hands of the women, he would take the oath of allegiance from them by way of speech. He would say:
“Go, for you have given your pledge by way of speech.”

He would take the pledge of hearing and obeying from them by way of speech and he wouldn’t shake the women’s hands, and he (ﷺ) is a father for this nation.

He (ﷺ) said:
“I am like a father to you.”

And with that he did not shake the women’s hands, thus shaking the hands of non-mahram women is Haram, and it is obligatory to distance oneself from this.

‘A’ishah (رضي الله عنها) said:
“By Allah, the hand of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) never touched the hand of a woman ever, rather when he would take the oath of allegiance from them he would do so by speech”

As the person said: 'Looking followed with smiling and greeting… speaking followed by setting a date and then meeting.'
These are all Fitan (plural of Fitnah) which have become widespread amongst the Muslims, and there is no might and no power except by Allah.

It is obligatory upon the guardians of the women to have Taqwa of Allah with regards to their womenfolk, and to not allow his daughter and neither his sister to free-mix with men, and it is obligatory upon him to have Taqwa of Allah.
“O you who believe! Ward off yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones”

And how many men left their daughters, and allowed for her to have her freedom, and before he knew it after that he was trialled with his reputation being tarnished, and trialled with his close ones falling into Zina, and then after that from them is the one who wants to murder, and one that wants to disown, and the likes of this.

So this is from the Fitan that the enemies of Islam are striving towards to the highest degree by spreading it amongst the Muslims.

It is obligatory upon the leaders to separate between men and women, and that education is done for men separately and for women separately, and for the hospitals to have no free mixing within them, thus there being a section for women specifically separate from the men’s section.

And that which takes place from the extreme necessities, then the necessities have their own rulings. If a woman is in need to be treated by a man or the likes of this, then there is no issue.

📩 Question:

The questioner asks: What is your advice for the one who watches TV series during Ramadhan?

📝 The answer:

Our advice for them is to have Taqwa of Allah (جل وعلا) and to stay away from these sins. They are sinning due to men watching women and women watching men, and similarly due to possessing images in the houses which is also Haram. And likewise it diverts them away from the remembrance of Allah and diverts them away from their worship, and perhaps some of them leave of some of their obligations such as leaving off the congregational prayer whilst he stays watching these series, let alone the one who leaves the prayer, for all of this takes away from the reward of your fast.

The Prophet (ﷺ) stated:
"Whoever does not give up false statements (i.e. telling lies), and evil deeds, and speaking bad words to others, Allah is not in need of his (fasting) leaving his food and drink."
