The phenomenon of illegal migration by boat has witnessed a noticeable escalation during the recent period, with more than 800 Algerians arriving on the Spanish coast within one week.
The number of these immigrants, who came on board 50 boats, reached 1,100 immigrants, 80% of whom were of Algerian nationality, while the rest were of Moroccan and other North African nationalities.
Francisco José Clémont Martín, an activist in illegal immigration issues and a member of the non-governmental organization “Oris Dal Mar,” pointed out that the immigrants were distributed in several Spanish regions, including Almeria, Mauricia, Alicante, and the Belaras Islands.
