The collapse of a bridge in the village of Ain Ghossein in the Ismailia governorate in Egypt has caused material damage and flooded large areas of agricultural land and housing.

The partial collapse of the bridge occurred at kilometer 10 and a length of 20 meters, as it caused water to be cut off from Suez Governorate, so the competent authorities called on residents to secure water sources in their own ways.

Authorities arrested a farmer for causing the incident after he tried to build an illegal water connection from the Ismailia Canal, which led to the collapse of the old bridge and the leakage of water for more than 100 acres in the farm.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has published a report revealing its vision and strategic plan to deal with the ongoing crisis in Libya during the current year 2024.

๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ”

The organizationโ€™s strategic vision is to work to ensure that irregular migrants, internally displaced persons, and other mobile populations, including those affected by conflict and disasters associated with natural hazards, coexist peacefully with local communities, in an environment that respects human rights, dignity and well-being.

The plan also focuses on improving the resilience of irregular migrants and communities, through life-saving assistance and promoting the sustainable management of irregular migration.

The report stressed the importance of participating in targeted interventions to support displaced people in Libya to reach durable solutions, noting that the weak rule of law and the lack of good governance of illegal migration have made foreigners vulnerable to challenges and concerns related to their protection.

The report pointed to the negative effects of climate change on Libya, where the country ranked 40th globally as the most affected country by disasters and climate change, especially droughts, lack of rainfall, floods, sand, and dust storms.

The conflict has left Libya highly vulnerable to climate variability, affecting agricultural production, livelihoods, food, and economic security for a large proportion of the population and vulnerable groups such as illegal migrants.

The report concluded by emphasizing the importance of taking urgent action to address climate challenges and ensure the stability of the electrical grid, with a focus on sustainable water resources management and sanitation treatment, as well as promoting investment in public infrastructure.

A senior official at Thailandโ€™s climate change office said on Wednesday that the countryโ€™s leaders may have to consider moving its capital, Bangkok, elsewhere because of rising sea levels.

It is consistently projected that low-lying areas of Bangkok are at risk of being submerged by the ocean before the end of this century.

Much of the bustling capital already suffers from flooding during the rainy season.

Pavich Kisavawong, deputy director general of the State Department for Climate Change and Environment, warned in a statement to AFP that the city may not be able to adapt in its current course to rising temperatures.

โ€œWe believe we have already crossed the 1.5 (degree Celsius) level,โ€ Kisavawong said, referring to higher global temperatures than pre-industrial levels.

"Now we have to go back and think about adapting, I imagine Bangkok will already be underwater, if we stay in our current situation," Kisavawong explained.

According to the official, the Bangkok city administration is exploring measures that include the construction of dams, similar to those used in the Netherlands.

"But we were considering a transition," the official said, noting that the discussions were still hypothetical, and that the issue was "very complex."

Thailand is reeling from the effects of climate change in a range of sectors, from farmers suffering from heat and drought to tourism companies affected by coral bleaching and pollution.

Specialized experts have warned of the repercussions of climate change in Tunisia, especially water scarcity and low rainfall rates, and its significant impact on agricultural production and food security.

The Tunisian expert in water policies, resources, and adaptation to climate change, Rawda Al-Qafraj, said that the rain that fell in Tunisia during this year represents 62% of the annual average rainfall, which is an improvement compared to previous years in which rainfall amounted to only 50%.

She pointed out that these rains did not contribute sufficiently to replenishing the damsโ€™ resources, as their revenues reached 639 million cubic meters, equivalent to only 37% of the average revenues.

Twenty-seven people have died in Central America due to landslides and floods over the past week, most of them in El Salvador, according to officials.

In a television interview, the commander of the Civil Protection Service in El Salvador, Luis Amaya, stated that the death toll in the country had risen to 19, including two girls who were swept away by landslides that swept through their home.

Amaya added that preventive evacuations were carried out in high-risk areas on the foothills and near swollen rivers.

In recent weeks, northeastern India, especially the state of Assam, has been hit by serious natural disasters as a result of heavy rains.

Floods and landslides caused the death of at least 16 people, and the displacement of more than 300,000 people from their flooded homes.

The Indian Army and Air Force participated in the rescue operations, as a military helicopter was used to rescue 13 fishermen stranded on a small island in the Brahmaputra River, which passes through the state of Assam. India witnessed a significant rise in rain rates this year, which exacerbated the floods.

Landslides in the state of Arunachal Pradesh caused the closure of several roads, while army forces rescued students and teachers from a flooded school.
