At least 11 people have been killed in two separate attacks by militants in Noshki district of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, near the border with Afghanistan.

According to a report by Pakistan’s “GEO’ channel, in the first attack, a passenger bus heading from Quetta to Taftan was intercepted, where the attackers checked the passengers’ documents and kidnapped 9 of them.

Subsequently, the bodies of the abductees bearing signs of gunfire were found near the site of the abduction, and all the victims were workers from Pakistan’s Punjab province.

In the second attack, unknown assailants began checking cars on the N-40 highway and opened fire on a car that refused to stop, killing two people, and injuring 3 others.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif sent his condolences to the families of the victims, vowing to punish the perpetrators of the attacks and their aides.

Unidentified gunmen killed two customs officers and wounded two others in an attack targeting them in a designated area on a busy highway.

The attacks come a few days after five other customs officers were killed in the same area, raising concerns about security and stability in the region.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, adding to tension and anxiety between local residents and security authorities.

An area police official, Mohammed Adnan, said the employees were performing their routine work when they were shot by unknown assailants, killing two and wounding two others.

The border areas with Afghanistan have seen an escalation in violence in recent years, with attacks particularly targeting security and police officials, raising concerns about the continued deterioration of security in the region.

A total of 311 people have been killed in floods in Baghlan province in northern Afghanistan, according to a preliminary toll announced by the Afghan government.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) earlier reported more than 200 people killed in Friday's floods.

The provincial authorities in charge of managing natural disasters in Afghanistan said that monsoon rains caused flash flooding in various areas of the northeastern province of Baghlan.

The floods destroyed several homes in Burka and Nahrain districts, and four districts in the province were severely damaged, as local Afghan authorities try to find the missing and have requested urgent assistance from the central government.

After a meeting with Sasso, who chairs a high-level committee on Libya in the African Union, Lavrov affirmed support for talks to reconcile the warring parties in Libya.

Lavrov attacked the West and its supposed targets in Ukraine and Libya during his visit to Congo, which comes as part of his African tour, according to Agence France-Presse.

Lavrov explained that what is happening in Libya is a tragedy, holding NATO and its members responsible for this. He added that the situation in Libya is similar to what happened in Iraq and Afghanistan, where the West wanted to impose its version of democracy, stressing the importance of finding an approach that guarantees the re-establishment of the country.

Morocco advanced in the Global Peace Index for 2024, rising 14 places to rank 78th globally, and sixth in the Middle East and North Africa region.

This classification is issued by the Institute of Economics and Peace, based on a set of sub-indicators such as the level of crime, the number of detainees, security personnel, and defense spending.

Iceland, Ireland, and Austria topped the top three places, respectively, while Yemen, Sudan, South Sudan, Afghanistan, and Ukraine topped the list after being classified in the red zones.

At the Arab level, Kuwait came in 25th place globally and first in the Arab world, followed by Qatar (29), the Sultanate of Oman (37), the United Arab Emirates (53), Tunisia (74), Algeria (90), and Libya (128).

A Taliban official said Monday that a storm accompanied by heavy rains struck eastern Afghanistan, resulting in the death of at least 35 people and the injury of many people in Nangarhar province.

Siddiqullah Qureshi, director of the state’s Department of Information and Culture, explained that five members of the same family died when the roof of their house collapsed in the Sarkh Road area, and four other members of the family were injured.

Qureshi added that women and children were among the dead and wounded, and that the storm destroyed many properties and crops in different parts of the state.

The World Health Organization announced that thousands of cases of cholera had been recorded during the month of June, noting that at least 160 people had died from the disease.

According to the organization’s statement, infections and deaths were distributed among 18 countries, with the number of infections decreasing by 14% compared to May.

The organization recorded 32,467 new infections in the Eastern Mediterranean region, about 18.7 thousand cases in Afghanistan, more than 6.6 thousand cases in Yemen, and more than 5.2 thousand cases in Pakistan, and the total number of infections recorded during the period from January 1 to June 30, 2024 reached 25. The country reached 249,793 infections.

Since January 2023, the World Health Organization has considered the spread of the cholera epidemic a “level 3 emergency,” the highest level of complexity.
