Authorities in Indonesia have begun relief and search and rescue operations after several areas on the island of Sumatra were hit by flooding and lava flows.

The Indonesian Disaster Management announced the death and loss of dozens of citizens as a result of these disasters, which hit the provinces of Tanah Datar and Agam in the west of the country.

Authorities have reported 41 deaths so far, with 17 people still missing, officials said.
