On the third day of Lunar New Year (January 27), many citizens chose to pray for blessings at Che Kung Temple. The Commissioner of Police, Chris Tang Pin-keung was sighted at the Temple today to personally console frontline police officers and the Civil Security Team.
In addition, Commissioner Tang also took photos with the person in charge of the Temple and other civilians at the scene. While he was busy showing off how well-liked he was, some others at the scene hurled curses at him, and to theother police officers as well, to which they ignored.
Commissioner Tang also turned a deaf ear to medical doctor's advice, showing complete neglect to social responsibility, as he was found not wearing a face mask in this very crowded temple.

During the police ’s dispersal operation at the junction of Shan Tung Street and Portland Street outside Langham Place last night (January 26), reporters stepped back at the request of the police, but continued to film while moving backwards.
However, police at the scene fired several rounds of pepper pellets at a close range towards reporters. One of the pellet hit the reporter’s camera, causing the shattering the filter. The camera body and lens were stained with chemicals.
This contact force, powerful enough to break glass a few meters away, can definitely cause injury if it hits a human directly.

MA Chairman suggests Government to collect real-time visitor data on Chinese authorities to tighten border control
The HKSAR government announced late in the evening of January 26 that from midnight of January 27, all residents of Hubei Province, except Hong Kong residents and anyone who has been to Hubei Province in the past 14 days will not be allowed to enter Hong Kong until further notice. The new measure was meant to reduce the chance of people infected with the new coronavirus entering Hong Kong.
The Chairman of the Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee of the Medical Association, Leung Chi-chiu, believed that the new measure came down too late. He believed that visitor’s identity could be verified based on their travel documents to prevent high-risk individuals such as those from Hubei Province from importing the virus into Hong Kong. However, he admitted that it is not reliable for visitors to declare on their own.
Leung suggested for the SAR government to cooperate with mainland authorities to obtain information on inbound tourists through real-name system. The HKSAR government could also take reference to measures taken by the Macau government, to track those came from Wuhan in the past 14 days and make it mandatory for them to undergo quarantined monitoring.
When being asked whether the interception area should be extended from Hubei Province to cover the entire China, Leung said there is no indication of major outbreaks in other provinces and cities, so large-scale border shutdown may not be necessary for now.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (#UST) Students’ Union (#SU) was penalised by the university management due to their role in organising the Memorial Service in remembrance of the death of fellow student #AlexChow, repainting a part of the University Road and refusing to remove material that the University deemed as pro-Hong Kong Independence.
Ka-chun MAK, the President and Kai-ho LO, the Vice-President (Internal) of the Students Union were suspended for a semester, had to complete a 72-hour campus service order and were prohibited from using any campus facility.
Mak told InMedia that he wouldn’t regret about what he had done for HKUST and Hong Kong, and that the he became the President of the SU because he wanted to change the politically apathetic campus, so that students of the University could be ‘proud of HKUST’ outside academic proficiency. He did so also to raise civic consciousness and to take on more responsibility.
During the interview, news came in about the police once again breaking into the campus of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (#CUHK) and arresting several students.
Mak lamented that one had to weigh the consequences before doing anything then. ‘Will you be looked into under this circumstance?’ He sighed. He thought that everyone had their own standards in their mind, if they could afford the consequences of the actions they took, they should go ahead, prepared to accept the consequences that follow. ‘If you think whatever should be done is worth the legal consequences, then do it.’

Philippine province cancels award for China Communications' US$10 billion airport project
Philippine announced the cancellation award of a US$10 billion airport deal south of the capital to Chinese firm. It was the biggest projects involving a Chinese firm, China Communications Construction Co (CCCC), under President Rodrigo Duterte who has pursued warmer ties with Beijing since taking office in 2016.
However, the Cavite government would start new negotiations for a private sector partner to pursue the airport project.

The "Leaning characters" slogans have once again appeared on streets in Yuen Long, Hong Kong.
The street art is set up and created by district councilor Kisslan Chan Ling-lun, who used "the Almost Truth" as a theme for his new work. The art is also created from several wooden planks, with the planks arranged to show the Chinese characters for "truth" (真相) when looked at with head tilted.
Chan revealed to Stand News that this served as a continuation of his previous work "The Leaning Liberty", which like "The Almost Truth", is arranged to show the Chinese characters for "liberty" (自由) when looked at from the sides. He stated that he had at first thought that the 木 radical in 相 didn't look artistic, and had removed a dot in a flash of inspiration, stating that "there's still some distance until we reach the truth". He hoped that one day he could "add that dot in" when the truth is reached.
Chan also expressed that the recent political incidents and court cases had showed that "it's hard to reach 100% truth", and that his work expresses the values many believe in in this environment, believing that "citizens would resonate with the words".
Chan studied art in University, and hoped that art would make the public notice what is happening around them more, and revealed the release of several similar works in the near future.
