Godot 4.4 will feature the new fast baked shadows for distant objects. It still leaves enough room for proper dynamic shadows nearby the camera, but distant ones can now use predefined shadows from the main directional light.

The new shadow can be drawn at nearly infinite distance, compared to only a few hundred meters where the shadow map is drawn. It will make outdoor scenes way more believable.

The craziest thing about development: the solutions I'm initially thinking about are wrong and I replace most of them over time. The first run is usually about defining the issue to solve and about making the foundation for the real solution.

While the real solution will be absolutely different in almost every aspect 😄 But hey, it's so much better and I'm proud of it!
