The reason: COMPUTE SHADERS! All these games are rebuilding the world around with intensive GPU usage. It's smart, it allows impressive foliage density, but the system is very sensitive to errors.
Poorly overclocked RAM, dying SSD, unstable VRAM, or bad system update β and their computational core falls apart. It's not their fault, since it could be either fast or resilient to errors, but still curious.

Finally: a completely pointless 2K launcher has been removed from all games on Steam and Epic Store.
It was introduced a couple of years ago, when other companies already stopped their own initiatives. But this one was notoriously bad: it caused a noticeable drop in performance and stability, but wasn't packed with any features worth mentioning.
They also added it to old games under the false claims of "Quality of life update" which turned it into a meme.
As of now, it's gone for good. Which means, I can finally complete MAFIA, where it appeared in the middle of the playthrough.

To prepare for a possible shutdown from Unreal and Unity, the Russian government decided to sponsor a new fully custom and Open Source Engine, called Nau. It's finally in beta, so everyone can try it out! The UI is provided in both English and Russian and the project is hosted on GitHub.
Some features, like Rendering components were given by Dagor Engine (the one that is used by War Thunder). The editor right now is very minimalistic and the documentation is very limited. As we all like!

Mac Walters announced that his Worlds Untold studio lost funding and no longer works with NetEase. They are looking for new partners, but laying off stuff.
Yesterday Casey Hudson announced that his Humanoid Origin is shutting down before any games were released.
Both were creators of the original Mass Effect trilogy and left BioWare to make own games. In current market conditions their legendary status wasn't enough to secure funding. Both teams were medium-size (about 50 and 140 people respectively).
