Stress is a natural part of everyday living. Everyone goes through stress from performing everyday responsibilities; challenging life events also trigger stress. The body responds to stress by releasing hormones that prepare the body to react adequately. This response (quick reaction) is aimed at protecting the body in emergency situations. However, when there's continuous firing of the stress response, health is at risk.

Chronic stress affects the body's systems in several ways and causes a variety of symptoms, affecting overall well-being.

Burnout is a response to chronic job stress characterized by fatigue, less identification with job, and feelings of decreased professional ability. In other words, you may be experiencing burnout if you feel worn out, start to resent your job, and feel less capable at work.

Job stress, in addition to overall stress from everyday living may trigger burnout. Personality traits like perfectionism and pessimism can also play a role.

Self-love is “a state of APPRECIATION for oneself that grows from actions that SUPPORT our physical, psychological, and spiritual GROWTH” (Khoshaba, 2012, emphasis mine).

Self-love has to do with placing premium value on yourself as a human who is worthy and deserving of love and respect. The more you love yourself, the less nonsense you'll tolerate.

~ I just thought I'd remind us of this important subject and also encourage us to prioritize it in 2022. Self-love is crucial to overall well-being. Don't underrate it!

Have you ever had the experience of waking up from sleep only to discover that you couldn't move, open your eyes, or talk? You felt like someone or something was pressing you down and trying to suffocate you? You struggled and probably called on the Lord your God to save you and then snap, you woke up?

Truly, the Lord our God does rescue us from all harm but contrary to popular belief, what you experienced is called Sleep Paralysis, not a malevolent, oppressing spirit trying to snuff the life out of you...well, mostly not😁.

Practically everyone loves a good compliment. It's a basic human need to feel valued and appreciated. Receiving compliments is beneficial in many ways and research has shown that when one receives a compliment, it activates the part of the brain that is activated when one receives some form of reward.

Intesrestingly, compliments are not only good for the recipient, they also benefit the giver. For one, cultivating the act of giving compliments enable us notice and show appreciation for the good things around us, making the giver of compliments develop a happier and more optimistic outlook to life. Giving compliments also fosters and strengthens relationships. In fact, offering love and kindness in form of genuine compliments can be rewarding to the body - research has suggested a link between kindness/compassion and the nerve that regulates the heart and inflammatory levels in the body.

Let's be frank...practically everyone is going through one 'issue' or the other. The severity may differ, but issues of concern nonetheless. Sometimes, people are genuinely immersed in their own challenges. They can barely get by and hardly have a chance to check on others.

This is why we should pay more attention to self-care. Social support is important but self-care is more important. Self-care is a crucial survival skill.
