The International Organization for Migration announced that the ongoing war in Sudan for a year has forced 20,000 Sudanese daily to flee their homes, noting that 53% of the displaced are children.

More than 8.6 million people were displaced last year due to worsening fighting in the country.

โ€œMillions of people are displaced, hungry and vulnerable to exploitation and abuse, but their plight is being ignored by much of the world,โ€ said IOM Director-General Amy Pope, while attending the International Humanitarian Conference for Sudan and its neighboring countries, in Paris.

The situation in Sudan, which is experiencing the worldโ€™s largest internal displacement crisis, is further complicated by a lack of funding for the humanitarian response, with only 5 per cent of the $2.7 billion plan aimed at reaching 14.7 million people secured.

At least a thousand Sudanese refugees have fled a UN-run camp in northern Ethiopia after a series of violence and robberies, three refugees and the United Nations said on Friday.

The refugees, who preferred to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals, said some 7,000 of the 8,000 residents of Kumar camp left the area on foot early on Wednesday after being attacked and robbed by local militiamen.

The refugees said police arrested the migrants shortly after they left the camp, about 70km from the Sudanese border in Ethiopiaโ€™s Amhara region.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, said it was aware that a thousand people had left Kumar camp on Wednesday because of a lack of security after a series of security incidents.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated that Egypt hosts about 9 million refugees, noting that it treats them like Egyptian citizens, without setting up camps or camps.

Sisi explained that these refugees consume about 4.5 billion liters of water annually, a major challenge facing the government in conjunction with the needs of the local population.

Sisi added that water challenges are a top priority for the country, prompting the government to implement projects to improve irrigation systems and develop infrastructure worth millions of pounds.

He also pointed to the need to expand desalination and treatment plants, despite their high cost, to make the most of water resources.

The Egyptian authorities deported 700 Sudanese who entered its territory illegally, and they were transported through the Arqin border crossing between the two countries.

These Sudanese had infiltrated Egypt through smuggling corridors, taking advantage of mafia networks that transported them under difficult circumstances to the Egyptian border, without legal papers proving their entry into the country through legal means.

The Egyptian authorities reported that the deported Sudanese were transported by 10 buses, including dozens of families, including many children and the elderly.

Two days ago, the authorities seized 7 buses loaded with Sudanese as they attempted to enter Egypt illegally on the outskirts of Qena Governorate in Upper Egypt.

These warnings come after the results of the rapid response team in the city of Kufra showed that the total number of Sudanese refugees there is estimated at 45 thousand refugees.

Kufra includes five sites known as โ€œThe Farm,โ€ hosting about 15,000 refugees, with a daily influx of between 250 and 300 new arrivals, according to the agencyโ€™s distress team.

After a survey of one of the sites, the Commission determined that the number of Sudanese refugees is about 800 families, with an average of five individuals per family, including about 400 children and 10% over the age of fifty.

The Oulala camp in the Amhara region of Ethiopia witnessed a new armed attack that killed two Sudanese refugees and injured about nine others, in the second attack in less than a week.

The attack occurred on Saturday after a similar attack three days ago, in which two Ethiopian policemen were killed and a number of refugees, including a child, were injured.

More than 6,000 Sudanese refugees live in difficult humanitarian conditions inside the โ€œOulalaโ€ forests, with the onset of autumn and rainfall, without providing any adequate protection.

Fears are rising about the continuation of armed attacks, as well as the environmental risks to which refugees are exposed.

Sources from inside the camp reported that an armed group attacked the camp and opened heavy fire, resulting in casualties.

A United Nations official revealed the presence and circulation of weapons in Sudanese refugee camps in Chad, which increases the exposure of women and girls to violence.

The regions of eastern Chad host more than 620,000 Sudanese refugees out of a total of 2.2 million people who have crossed the border since the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan on April 15, 2023.

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Pramila Patten, visited Chad from 14 to 18 July to assess the situation in the Ouaddai region, which hosts refugees.

Her office noted in a statement that โ€œthe lack of security in the camps, the circulation of weapons, and the presence of armed men increase the exposure of women and girls to various forms of gender-based violence.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry accused the international community of failing to provide aid to Sudanese refugees in Chad, who have been suffering from a three-month hiatus in humanitarian aid.

The ministry indicated in a statement on Saturday that some international bodies are focusing in a โ€œsuspiciousโ€ manner on opening the Adre border crossing between Chad and West Darfur State and are ignoring the suffering of Sudanese refugees in those areas.

This criticism comes at a time when the UAE and some UN agencies are calling for the opening of the aforementioned crossing to transport aid, but the Sudanese authorities refuse to open the crossing, accusing the Rapid Support Forces of using it to transport military equipment.
