El Fasher Hospital in Darfur has received dozens of dead and hundreds injured as a result of renewed fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since the tenth of May.

The charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said the hospital in El Fasher had received 707 injured people so far, while 85 of them had died.

El Fasher, the main aid hub in Darfur, has been witnessing heavy fighting this month despite UN calls to avoid fighting.

El Fasher is the only one of the capitals of the five Darfur states not controlled by the RSF.

Fighting has escalated in recent hours, with the Sudanese army launching air strikes on several locations around the main oil refinery in the al-Jili area north of Khartoum.

Yesterday, Friday, Doctors Without Borders succeeded in carrying out a risky rescue mission off the Libyan coast, saving 160 migrants and recovering 11 bodies from the Mediterranean Sea.

🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾

The operation took place during the early hours of the morning, as the organization’s “Geo Parents” rescue ship was able to carry out two rescue operations in a row, and 146 people were initially rescued, followed by the discovery of 20 other migrants on a separate boat.

A Sea-Watch surveillance plane also spotted the bodies of 11 migrants who were later recovered, according to Reuters reports, and showed that the Libyan Coast Guard ignored Sea-Watch’s calls to retrieve the bodies.

The residential building for “Doctors Without Borders” employees in the Sudanese city of Omdurman was subjected to direct bombardment, according to what the Sudanese newspaper Al-Rakouba reported.

The newspaper reported that the team members were not harmed, but there were many injuries among other residents in the area, and the bombing caused damage to the upper floor of the building.

This incident comes in light of the continuing war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has led to a severe humanitarian crisis in Sudan since its outbreak in mid-April.

The search and rescue ship “Geo Parents”, run by Doctors Without Borders, arrived in the port of Salerno in southern Italy on Saturday with 99 migrants on board, which it rescued in two operations off the coast of Libya this week.

🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾

Doctors Without Borders stated that among these migrants, there were 53 minors, including 37 unaccompanied minors.

This group included 41 boys and 12 girls, many of whom were young children. The 99 rescued people were disembarked safely at the port of Salerno on the morning of Saturday, July 10.

MSF reported that the migrants faced harassment from Libyan security forces during their arduous journey, forcing many to jump into the water and prefer to risk their lives at sea rather than be returned to Libya.

Most of these migrants come from countries such as Ivory Coast, Syria, Somalia, Pakistan, Guinea and Burkina Faso.

The head of “Doctors Without Borders”, Christos Christou, announced on Tuesday that one-third of the people admitted to hospitals for war-related injuries in Sudan are women or children under the age of ten.

The organization’s hospitals, the only medical facilities operating in most parts of the war-torn country, have been repeatedly attacked, Christo told AFP in Port Sudan.

Since April 2023, tens of thousands of people have been killed in the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Christo pointed out that many organizations chose a “reserved position” while waiting for how the conflict would develop, and this came while talks were continuing in Geneva between an international delegation and two delegations representing both sides of the war.

The spokeswoman for the new refugees in the Talloum camp in eastern Chad, Fatima Fadl Al-Jasser, announced the death of four refugees and the infection of 28 others with hepatitis inside the camp.

Al-Jasser reported four miscarriages among women, at a time when the deteriorating health situation forces many refugees to sell their personal belongings to finance their treatment, as a result of the severe shortage of health care and medicines.

The camp, which includes refugees who fled conflicts in Sudan, suffers from a significant absence of medical resources, as Al-Jasser indicated that the camp’s health center does not have a delivery room and suffers from a shortage of basic medicines.
