Scientists have warned about the increasing risk of mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue fever in various parts of the world, including parts of northern Europe, by the end of this century.

The British “Sky News” website conveyed these warnings from experts, indicating that global warming plays a major role in exacerbating this issue, as it could lead to an expanded range of mosquitoes, thereby increasing the number of cases of diseases they carry.

Figures from the UK’s Health Security Agency show that cases of “imported” malaria exceeded 1,000 last year for the first time in over two decades. This is partly due to increased overseas travel following the lifting of pandemic-related restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic.

As for dengue fever, cases have increased significantly over the past two decades, from 500,000 in 2000 to over 5 million cases in 2019.

Lindmeier stated that medical supplies in Sudan cover only 25% of the needs, and access to The World Health Organization warehouse in Al Jazirah state has been cut off since December 2023. Some states, such as Darfur, have not received medical supplies throughout the past year.

Since the outbreak of war in Sudan on April 15, 2023, serious environmental consequences have emerged that threaten the population and the climate.

A recent study conducted by the Moatasem Nimr Center for Environmental Culture revealed the devastating effects of war on the environment, including water, air and soil pollution as a result of fires, explosions and chemical gases leaking from weapons.

The study shows that wars contribute to the destruction of civilian and industrial infrastructure, leading to the leakage of dangerous chemicals and oils into water sources, causing serious environmental pollution.

In addition, the health system has deteriorated with the spread of unburied bodies, which further exacerbates the health situation.
