Pompeo Accused China Eradicating All Faith that Do Not Conform to the Communist Regime on International Religious Freedom Day

On the International Religious Freedom Day on Tuesday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo criticised China, Iran, and North Korea as the most seriously prosecuted countries in the world for religious freedom. He added that the three countries increased the restriction upon its people, especially for Beijing trying to eradicate all faith that violates the communist regime.

Pompeo in a statement mentioned the International Religious Freedom Act taking into effect 22 years ago on October 27, reiterating the promise on the promotion and the defence on the religious rights of everyone in the world. Pompeo stated that the US government has long been respectful the freedom of lifestyle regardless of their religion, dating back to the visions of the founding fathers of the US. He emphasised, religious and human dignity issues are of the core of US diplomatic relations, for now, and in the future.

Pompeo named China, Iran, and North Korea as three of the worst countries in the world, in terms of religious rights. “These countries are tightening their restriction to suppress their people. Worse still, China is trying to erase every religion not compatible with the communist regime.” He said.

US-Japan Alliance Conducts Massive Island-landing Exercise

Massive US-Japan joint military island-landing exercise reportedly took place over a two-week period from late October to early November. It is believed that the action is to show US' support for Japan in the disputed Sankaku Islands, also known as the Diaoyus in China.

On Oct 26, Commander of US Forces Japan, Kevin Schneider spoke aboard a Japanese warship that the military exercise was to demonstrate the capability "to deliver combat troops to defend the Senkakus or respond to other crises or contingencies." The massive exercise was expected to last for 10 days and ended on Nov 5.

According to CNN, the fleets include 9,000 US troops, a US aircraft carrier strike group, more than 100 US military aircraft, more than 37,000 Japanese troops, a flotilla of 20 Japan Maritime Self Defense Force warships, 100 Japanese military planes, plus a frigate from Canada -- all focused on landing large forces on islands around Okinawa.

The group of uninhabited islands, known as the Diaoyus for China and Senkakus for Japan, has been in dispute for years, but has also been under Japan's administration since 1972. Chinese ships sailing in waters near the Islands earlier this year has drawn condemnation from Japan.

Hongkonger Protests Against the Removal of the Pillar of Shame with #SquidGames and #GeorgeOrwell

At around noon on October 28, 2021, a person dressed as the game operator in the heated #Netflix series #SquidGames stood in front of the #PillarofShame at the University of Hong Kong (#HKU).

The person held up a sign which read "Ignorance is strength," a line taken from #GeorgeOrwell's book 1984.

The act of the one-person silent protest has alarmed the campus security team, which went to the site and took the person away.

Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Condemns Alleged #PoliticalCensorship at #OzAsiaFestival

//The future of government funding for #Adelaide's OzAsia Festival is under threat, after claims that Hong Kong's strict national security laws have extended to Australia's biggest Asian festival.

Hong Kong Cultural Association of South Australia (#HKCASA) chairwoman Janet Leung said it all started with a dispute over yellow umbrellas.

HKCASA was booked to host an interactive workshop and performance at the opening weekend of the festival last week.

"The workshop was supposed to show a historical timeline of how Hong Kong was transformed from a fishing village to an international financial hub," Ms Leung said.

The performance was locked in by OzAsia organisers in August, but a crucial detail then changed everything.

The workshop stall was to be decorated with yellow umbrellas.

The organiser pasted a link to a Wikipedia article detailing Hong Kong's so-called 'umbrella movement' of 2014, in which pro-democracy protesters held umbrellas in acts of passive defiance.

"Unfortunately, we are unable to approve the use of the yellow umbrellas as props decor," the email said.

Ms Leung said she was "shocked".//

Biden Criticized China's Coercive Actions in Taiwan Strait and Said its Commitment to Taiwan is Rock-Solid

Joe Biden, the President of the United States, criticized China for taking coercive actions in Taiwan Strait during East Asia Summit on Wednesday (27 October). And the actions threatened the peacefulness and stability of regions and reaffirmed that the US commitment to Taiwan is “rock-solid”.

During the summit, Biden said, “We are deeply concerned about China’s coercion action”. He continued, “the US has made a commitment to Taiwan. In fact, the commitment is rock-solid and consistent across successive governments. We will continue to maintain the peacefulness and stability of Taiwan Strait region”.

Biden said last week that the US has the responsibility to provide Taiwan with means of self-defence under the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act. The US will defend Taiwan if China attacks them. Biden’s remarks run counter to the US’s consistent “strategic ambiguity” stance on Taiwan.

China later expressed their dissatisfaction with Biden’s remarks and urged Washington not to send the wrong signal to Taiwan, so as not to seriously damage Sino-US relations and the peace and stability of Taiwan Strait.

Pillar of Shame placed outside Chinese Embassy in Rome. Nathan Law: China government's atrocities must be exposed to the world

As the G20 summit is to be held in Rome for two days from Saturday (30 October), exiled Hong Kong legislator Nathan Law Kwun-Chung took the "Pillar of Shame" to the Chinese Embassy there yesterday (27 October) to protest. He said he might not be able to stop the Chinese Communist Party (#ccp) from committing atrocities, but he hoped to draw public attention to human rights issues in China.

Joint with Luke de Pulford, a British member of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC), and others, Nathan Law erected a three-metre-high "Pillar of Shame", a replica of the original "Pillar of Shame" status made by the same Danish sculptor Jens Galschiøt, outside the Chinese Embassy in Rome yesterday.

"We may not be able to stop the Chinese Communist Party's atrocities, but with the G20 summit around the corner, there is something we can do to get the media's attention and to direct some of the public opinions towards the human rights of the Chinese Communist Party," he said. He would also meet with parliamentarians from different countries in Rome in the coming days, hoping to remind them of the importance of fighting the expansion of Chinese Communist authority when they gather.

[Translator note: According to the Stand News video, Nathan Law said, "it is a statement about the atrocity and the massacre that the Chinese Communist Party did to its people, its crushing of democratic pursuit, and the pursuits of its people to decide the future of their own country", which is not quite the same as what the news article say]
