Amazing study of The Witcher 3 environment art: tons of triangles (so don't be quad perfectionist for static meshes), tons of hidden geometry, meshes that could be textures, and more.
But still used wisely with intent, not just from a point of laziness β they bring a lot of volume to the world, allow better lighting to be used, etc.

More details from Jason Schreier: EA fired 300-400 people across the whole company, over 100 of them were from Respawn Entertainment.
The biggest project they cancelled is the extraction shooter based on Titanfall/Apex universe. Since several new extraction games failed to gain traction or engagement, EA is probably doing the right thing.
It's not the first wave of layoffs in EA this year (the biggest one was at Bioware). But they hope it will be the last one.
It's curious that EA is under pressure from all fronts: InZOI is way more popular than The Sims, several new football games are stealing attention from EA FC 25, Dragon Age got no sales (compared to AC Shadows, Kingdom Come II, Oblivion, and Expedition 33), and even Battlefield is facing pressure from Delta Force.

There are tons of purchased assets in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but no one offended and criticize the visuals of the game. It clearly shows own style and coherent artistic vision.
Just sayin!

Valve accidentally sent out rejection letters to... thousands of developers! Who never applied for Next Fest. According to some reports, they actually sent it to EVERYONE.

Codemasters, the legendary studio behind Colin McRae, Dirt, and WRC, is now left in a very dangerous situation. But the case of WRC is even more interesting!
The British department (Codemasters Cheshire) is based on Evolution Studios, who previously created MotorStorm and WRC. Due to internal conflicts in PlayStation, they closed Evolution, then they turned into the Codemasters department, and then into another Criterion Games.
EA purchased it in 2022 for $1.2B and called it a new big chapter. Not as big as it seemed.
