Think twice before launching a multiplayer game. There's a very limited market for them. Same with Helldivers II (thanks to PlayStation locking 180+ regions), same with Deadlock from Valve.

Marvel Rivals managed to keep active audience much better than any other multiplayer game recently: they started the season with 480K concurrent players on Steam and ended it with 445.

Before that only Helldivers II managed to make something similar about a year ago.

The game earned over $130m in its first month and it keeps growing in revenue.

Sony cancels two live service projects including God of War title. Games were in development at first-party studios Bluepoint Games and Bend Studio.

Sony explained both titles were canceled following a "recent review." Although neither studio is being shuttered, Sony didn't state whether the decision will lead to layoffs.

Gaijin Entertainment announced a Battlefield competitor: with the upcoming update War Thunder will feature ground troops support.

The trailer contains a lot of references to long lasting community memes and the game is known for making time-limited events on April 1. But I hope this one is real.

Respawn is laying off staff: people from Apex and Jedi teams are also affected, two early stage projects are cancelled. Goodbye, Titanfall 3? #EA@GameDEV #LayOffs@GameDEV
More details from Jason Schreier: EA fired 300-400 people across the whole company, over 100 of them were from Respawn Entertainment.

The biggest project they cancelled is the extraction shooter based on Titanfall/Apex universe. Since several new extraction games failed to gain traction or engagement, EA is probably doing the right thing.

It's not the first wave of layoffs in EA this year (the biggest one was at Bioware). But they hope it will be the last one.

It's curious that EA is under pressure from all fronts: InZOI is way more popular than The Sims, several new football games are stealing attention from EA FC 25, Dragon Age got no sales (compared to AC Shadows, Kingdom Come II, Oblivion, and Expedition 33), and even Battlefield is facing pressure from Delta Force.

Marathon is not doing great: the close alpha test is almost as popular as Concord. People are invited in waves, there was a peak of ~7000 people, but then it quickly dropped to 1000, and at night time it dips as low as 58 players.

Seeing this, the speculated closure of Titanfall Extraction becomes more obvious — people are not into the concept and the success of Tarkov is rather an exemption.

Elden Ring Nightreign only supports 1 or 3 players per squad, and teams of 2 or 4 are not allowed. The developers said they didn't think it through and will probably add more options later.

Oh, and Remedy tried to grow into multiplayer games after Alan Wake II.

Their first game FBC: Firebreak launched with 60% positive reviews from players and media. It gained only a couple of thousands of CCU.

It's a premium $40 title, but it's also available in subscription services.
