The United States “vetoed” an Algerian draft resolution recommending that the General Assembly admit the State of Palestine to membership in the United Nations.

Twelve of the fifteen members of the Council voted in favor, with the United States opposed and the United Kingdom and Switzerland abstaining.

Ahead of the vote, Algerian Ambassador Ammar Ben Jammeh said that accepting full membership for Palestine was a crucial step “towards correcting a long-standing injustice, and this is the least that can be done to fulfill the debt we owe to its people and will be a clear signal that the international community stands by Palestine.

A Hamas official, Khalil al-Hayya, said the group was ready to agree to a five-year or more truce with Israel if an independent Palestinian state was established on the 1967 borders.

In his remarks to The Associated Press, al-Haya stressed that “Hamas wants to join the Palestine Liberation Organization, which is headed by Fatah, to form a unified government for Gaza and the West Bank.”

Al-Haya stressed that “Hamas will accept the establishment of a fully sovereign Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and the return of Palestinian refugees in accordance with international resolutions on the 1967 borders, if that happens, the military wing of the movement will be dissolved.

The Israeli government has directed its diplomatic missions around the world to prepare for the possibility of the International Criminal Court (ICC) issuing arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials.

This trend comes in light of the court’s ongoing investigations into events in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which include the military operations between Israel and Hamas that erupted last October.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz sent letters to Jewish diplomatic missions and organizations around the world to work with local authorities to enhance security and prepare for any reactions to the court’s decisions.

Israel is preparing to face the possibility of issuing warrants against prominent figures such as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Galant, and Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi.

The ICC has not yet made any official statements regarding possible proceedings.

According to a report published by the British newspaper “Financial Times”, these countries are considering the idea of establishing a multinational peacekeeping force, under Palestinian administration, with the aim of stabilizing the region after the recent events.

These Arab states support the presence of an international or regional peacekeeping force in Gaza under Palestinian administration, and demand that the decision to establish such a force be approved by the UN Security Council.

Algeria’s representative to the UN Security Council, Ammar Ben Jama, said, “Whoever believes that he can uproot the Palestinians from their land by force is mistaken.”

Ben Jammeh stressed during the monthly session of the Security Council on “the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue” on Tuesday, that “the Zionist occupation will fail to implement its plans, and the Palestinians will not leave their homeland, and will continue the struggle until they fully enjoy their rights, including the right to self-determination.” Destiny and the establishment of their state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
