The Libyan envoy carried a written message from the exiled head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Younes, to King Mohammed VI.

A source close to the Libyan Presidential Council confirmed through MAP that it rejects any attempt to create an alternative framework to the Arab Maghreb Union, stressing the need to strengthen this regional group, which was founded in Marrakech in 1989.

The Libyan sources expressed their thanks for the steadfast and continuous support provided by the Kingdom of Morocco under the leadership of the King in the Libyan cause, which is reflected in several agreements, including the agreements of Skhirat, Bouznika and Tangier, according to the Libyan news agency β€œLamap”.

The Libyan envoy stressed the role of the Kingdom of Morocco in settling the Libyan crisis and provided its full support to achieve a series of agreements, noting that the Skhirat agreement concluded in 2015 remains essential and a reference for resolving the Libyan issue.

This stance came in response to what the Libyan government described as β€œunilateral calls” seeking to exclude any of the countries from this regional bloc.

During a press conference in Kenitra, Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdelhadi al-Hawij stressed the need to unite efforts and overcome differences to revive the Maghreb Union.

He pointed out that Libya, with its strong diplomatic relations with all member states, can play a pivotal role in bringing views closer and activating the Union and its institutions.

Al-Hawij praised the role of King Mohammed VI in supporting the causes of the Union and the African continent, and his adoption of a neutral stance towards Libyan affairs, stressing the importance of the Libyan dialogue hosted by Morocco.

The head of the High Council of State, Mohamed Tekala, announced his intention to meet again in Cairo with Libyan leaders, to complete talks on the formation of a new Libyan government.

πŸ‡±πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡±πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡±πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡±πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡±πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡±πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡±πŸ‡Ύ

The meeting will include the head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed al-Menfi, and the speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, under the auspices of the Arab League, and did not specify the date of the meeting, but expected β€œpromising results on the road map.

Tekala explained during his television interview that a committee is expected to be formed to review electoral laws within two weeks, based on the agreement reached in Cairo, although he considered that β€œthe adoption of the draft constitution, or consensus on laws, which were adopted in the Moroccan city of Bouznika, are the best options for holding elections.”

Tekala stressed that the House of Representatives’ announcement of its acceptance of the files of the candidates for the new government β€œis not a fact,” noting that the Speaker of the House β€œdid not say it,” stressing the continuation of β€œtheir work for consensus.”

The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, received the UN envoy and head of the mission for political affairs, Abdullah Bathili, on his last visit before handing over his post to US Deputy Stephanie Khoury.

πŸ‡±πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡±πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡±πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡±πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡±πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡±πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡±πŸ‡Ύ

During the meeting, Haftar and Batelli discussed political developments in the country and the need to support the political process to achieve stability and peace.

In a related context, Bathili visited Tripoli, where he met with the outgoing head of the β€œGovernment of National Unity”, Abdelhamid Dbeibeh, and discussed the role of the United Nations mission in supporting the political process in Libya and achieving the aspirations of the Libyan people in the presidential and parliamentary elections.

He also met with the head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi.
Batelli’s resignation followed a series of withdrawals by UN envoys in Libya over the past thirteen years.

The appointment of Khoury, who played a role in Dbeibeh’s accession to the presidency of the Government of National Unity, raises the concerns of the Libyan parties that this appointment is linked to the United States’ attempt to expand again in Libya after years of its retreat.
