Morocco rose to 60th place among the world’s most powerful countries for 2024, thanks to its growing military and economic power, according to the American magazine “ceoworld magazine”.

The magazine evaluates countries based on seven key criteria, including political stability, economic influence, defense and arms budget, the strength of global alliances, and military power.

In addition, the ranking also confirms Egypt’s brilliance with twelfth place, followed by Saudi Arabia and the UAE according to the ranking.

On the international stage, the United States continued to come first, followed by China and Russia, while Morocco and other countries are important players in the region and internationally.

For their part, developing countries face social, economic, political and security challenges that hinder their rise on the international stage.

Relations between France and Morocco have witnessed a wave of tangible diplomatic activity, with French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin on a two-day official visit to Rabat.

The visit follows visits by French Foreign Trade Minister Franck Riester and Foreign Affairs Minister Stéphane Sigourny over the past few months.

During his meeting with Moroccan Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit, Darmanan thanked Morocco for the great support provided by Morocco to France in organizing major sporting events, including the Olympic Games in Paris, which will bring together hundreds of thousands of people.

Darmanan described the “excellent” cooperation between the French Republic and the Kingdom of Morocco in the field of security in light of common challenges, such as the fight against drugs, terrorist networks and crime.

The General Command of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces announced a successful rescue operation for a group of migrants stranded in the open sea off the coast of Dakhla, Morocco.

According to the statement issued by the General Command, the boat carrying 52 people, who hail from sub-Saharan Africa, was on their way to the Canary Islands illegally.

Members of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces, which are tasked with monitoring the coast, discovered the boat, which was stranded at sea, 170 kilometers south of Dakhla, and rescued its passengers and provided them with the necessary first aid.

The migrants were handed over to the competent Moroccan security authorities for action.

The Libyan envoy carried a written message from the exiled head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Younes, to King Mohammed VI.

A source close to the Libyan Presidential Council confirmed through MAP that it rejects any attempt to create an alternative framework to the Arab Maghreb Union, stressing the need to strengthen this regional group, which was founded in Marrakech in 1989.

The Libyan sources expressed their thanks for the steadfast and continuous support provided by the Kingdom of Morocco under the leadership of the King in the Libyan cause, which is reflected in several agreements, including the agreements of Skhirat, Bouznika and Tangier, according to the Libyan news agency “Lamap”.

The Libyan envoy stressed the role of the Kingdom of Morocco in settling the Libyan crisis and provided its full support to achieve a series of agreements, noting that the Skhirat agreement concluded in 2015 remains essential and a reference for resolving the Libyan issue.

According to Spanish press reports, improved relations between France and Morocco have prompted Paris to agree to deliver a number of French-made Mirage fighter jets to Morocco.

Espanyol reported that the United Arab Emirates plans to deliver 30 Mirage 2000-9 fighter jets to Morocco, subject to France’s approval.

The move comes as part of a deal signed by Abu Dhabi in 2021 to purchase 80 French-made Dassault Rafale fighters, which are expected to replace the UAE’s current Mirage fleet.

According to reports, the UAE is expected to provide Mirage fighter jets to Morocco once it receives the Rafale fighters in the coming years.

Concerns are growing in Spain about the military escalation between Morocco and Algeria, according to a report in Spanish newspaper “El Independiente”.

The report shows that increased spending on armaments by the two countries is worrying in Spain, which is their neighbor.

Information in the report indicates that the Algerian and Moroccan militaries share the highest budget positions in Africa, with both increasing their military spending last year.

According to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Algeria allocated $18.3 billion to the military in 2023, while Morocco invested $5.2 billion.

While Spain ranks 17th globally in military spending, Algeria ranks 19th, and Morocco is not ranked among the top forty countries that spend on the military, according to the same source.

Military purchases have increased for both Algeria and Morocco in recent years, with Algeria purchasing advanced weapons from Russia and China, while Morocco has purchased weapons from the United States and France.

Morocco announced the establishment of two new industrial zones in the field of defense, with the aim of caring for security equipment, mechanisms and weapons systems.
