#Rumour
Disclaimer: rumour means it has not been fact checked

Clarification Statement:

Masks made in the Hong Kong Correctional Services are provided for the government organization, but excluding public hospitals.

Because all public hospitals are under the management of the Hospital Authority (HA) and HA is statutory authority independently, so public hospitals are excluded in the government structure. HA only needs to report to government via the Food and Health Bureau, i.e. similar to ICAC, an independent organization

Public hospitals need to purchase surgical masks themselves for medical staff. Therefore, not enough supply of mask in public hospitals is not the business of the Hong Kong Correctional Services.

Police not wearing mask properly while stationing at quarantine camp

The SAR Government has finally sent charter flights to evacuate stranded Hong Kong citizens in China's epicenter Wuhan. The returnees will be quarantined in Fo Tan's Chun Yeung Estate, a brand new public housing estate where the actual tenants were denied in last minute after the government forcefully turned the place into a quarantine camp.

Perhaps 'unafraid' of the spread of the virus, a police officer with his mask pulled down was sighted smoking with his colleague at the quarantine camp.

Hong Kong Frontline medical staff deprived of better protection while treating returnees from Wuhan

The HKSAR government dispatched 4 charter flights to Wuhan, China to pick up stranded Hong Kong people, including 14 pregnant women.

Hong Kong's Department of Health confirmed earlier that those who are 30 weeks or further along in their pregnancy and tested negative for the virus, will have their prenatal screening this week, even though they will still be under their 14-day quarantine.

Stand News received complaints from frontline medical staff of the Prince Wales Hospital, pointing out that the hospital's obstetrics and gynaecology day ward does not have negative pressure rooms. Senior management even asked for the return of N95 masks in exchange for lower grade masks that provide less protection, which can put the medical staff at greater risk of infection.

Corona virus: Switzerland is outraged by German export ban for protective masks

Editor’s Note: France has made a similar ban.

//The German export ban for protective clothing, including respiratory masks, to combat the new corona virus has led to diplomatic tensions with Switzerland

//Since Switzerland hardly produces any medical consumables, the measure hit it hard.

//“In these contacts, the German authorities were urged to release the blocked programs immediately,”

//a truck belonging to a Swiss company is currently being prevented from traveling to Switzerland by German customs authorities

//the National Center for Infection Prevention in Switzerland instructed hospitals that doctors should no longer wear surgical protective masks for two, but eight hours.

//The federal government calls for special protection for vulnerable people and only to go to the emergency room if there is an urgent need.

Taiwan will donate 10 million pieces of masks. Chinese netizens: will write "donated by China" on all donations

(1 Apr) Taiwan prepared their pandemic prevention materials in advance and will donate 10 million pieces of masks to countries with severe pandemic outbreak. Moreover, many countries would like to cooperate with Taiwan.  Taiwan is currently cooperating with the United States and the Czech Republic, and also exchanging pandemic prevention materials with the United States and Australia.  In addition, Taiwan will also provide assistance to countries with diplomatic relationships to obtain medical supplies through local purchase.

Tsai Ing-wen emphasized that Taiwan must not stand on the side and is ready to provide assistance to the international community in three aspects: masks, drugs and technology.  The premise for such cooperation is that Taiwan has "strong power" and the government has the "capacity" and willing to fulfill its responsibilities as a member of the international community.  "To show everyone that not only Taiwan can help but Taiwan is helping."

This news was reposted on Weibo and many Chinese netizens commented that "donation is made by China Taiwan anyways", "all donations are made by China", "should comment "from China Taiwan" on all tweets about Taiwan donating to any country", "International: thanks China", "agree Taiwan province to provide foreign aid", "these are China Taiwan (donation), of course donation from China and can donate as much as we want", "all credits go to China".

The Chinese Government has FOOLED you!

Youtuber SerpentZA recounts some of his friends' experiences dealing with the recently intensified racism in China. State-endorsed discrimination comes in the form of segregation on flights reminiscent of Rosa Parks, being called an "American virus", evicting Africans from apartments and forcing them to leave the country on short notice, among other examples.

When China first realised that the epidemic was a crisis, the government put Wuhan on lockdown but allowed departing international flights. It "didn't care that the virus… spread to your country", only that it did not spread within its borders.

At the same time, "China banned the export of masks and vital medical supplies". Foreign products manufactured in China were hoarded locally. The government also “ordered all state-linked companies abroad to… liberate” them from foreign countries.

He calls attention to China's attempt to save face, "the appearance that something is more important than its substance [by] spending immense amounts of money and state resources on soft power". The state-run media talks about racism and xenophobia against Chinese and Asians overseas to divert attention away from the "very real racist policies" within. "If you have ever… looked at China in a positive light… it means that their manipulative ways have worked on you."

"This is only the tip of the iceberg. China does not have this thing under control."

Geopolitics Unmasked: How COVID-19 became China’s Chernobyl

(30 Mar) Chinese diplomacy often uses giving plums in exchange for peaches. Today the CCP offers European countries plums in the form of masks, but at the same time, Xi Jinping has a well-prepared plan of how and when to ask for peaches for alleged help in the epidemic. Some may be told that since Beijing offered gifts, it is now time for Huawei to build a 5G network. The others may be asked to provide access to their wealth or to use the Chinese Yuan in the trade so that the currency will play a greater role in world transactions and replace the dollar. This alleged aid, without identifying China as responsible for the worldwide spread of the pandemic and agreeing to the CCP propaganda presenting China not as the source of the crisis, but as a solution to this crisis in other countries of the world, in the future, may translate into economic and political dependence of other countries and is simply a fraud.

French President shows that masks can look chic

Macron used the school visit as an opportunity to promote the use of cloth masks among the general public. The fashionable design of the mask he donned "mades mask-wearing an act of national pride", as the Associated Press suggests. The mask, embellished with the French Tricolour, is 100% made in France by the local manufacturer Chanteclair at a cost of less than 5 euros (HK $42).

While the reusable masks in Hong Kong are produced at a similar cost, the masks are described by citizens to "resemble underwear". It was further uncovered that the masks were produced without following the usual procurement rules and some technical descriptions were misleading and inaccurate.

Policeman Refuses to Put On Mask

1614 | Causeway Bay

Under the Canal Road flyover, police conducted stop-and-search on a man in grey shirt. One policeman was seen without a mask, and quarreled with the citizens nearby; they accused the policeman with a microphone of being rude and dispersing reporters on scene.

After discussing with another policeman with a microphone, the officer still refused to put on a mask, further angering the citizens. As seen in the video, the police were extremely ill-mannered, and offered no explanation to nearby citizens for dispersing reporters.

The police force, despite having promised to improve their attitude, displayed no effort in making such changes.

Companies should pay attention to their supply chains: Face masks made with allegedly forced Uighur labour are sold overseas

As Australia stockpiling masks from China for its skyrocketing demands, experts discovered allegedly coerced Uighur labour in the supply chain.

A thinktank report from earlier this year revealed involvement of factories in programs of forced Uighur labour. The programs were said to be a “poverty alleviation” policy, yet in fact “inextricably linked to broader, coercive policies intended to erase the Uighur identity itself.”

These programs include shipping Uighurs thousands of miles away from their homes, mandatory “ideological training”, forced participation in flag-raising and anthem-singing ceremonies, learning Mandarin, and living and eating on-site in separate dormitories and a canteen.
All of the activities are under the supervisions of "minders" along with constant surveillance, banning of religious observance, and limited freedom of movement.

China has made auditing of human rights extremely difficult for Western companies and nearly impossible for consumers. Experts recommend companies to conduct desktop-based investigation to ensure their supply chains are not tainted by factories using forced Uighur labour.

Masked Man Kneeled in Front of Police After Being Ticketed for "Not Wearing Mask Properly"

1952 | Sheung Tak Carpark, Tseung Kwan O
A man in 7-11 uniform was searched by the police after he yelled "Yi Jin boys".

The police tried to twist his arms and fine him for violating the Anti-pandemic Ordinance No. 599I on the ground that he did not "wear his mask properly". The man has been wearing his mask all along. Facing the police's accusation, the man kneeled on the ground and pleaded helplessly in front of the police, for that he cannot afford to pay the fine.

HK Police Demands Journalists to Remove Black-Coloured Masks

April 15, 2021 is named the “National Security Education Day” in Hong Kong, and in conjunction with such day, the five training schools of the HKSAR Government disciplinary forces are open to the public.

The press were present at the Police College in Wong Chuk Hang in the afternoon to cover the opening ceremony. Chris Tang Ping-Keung, the Commissioner of the Police Force is reported to be present.

As the journalists enter the academy, at least three of them were asked to remove their black-coloured masks.

The Police Public Relations Branch claimed that black-coloured masks are "not allowed to be worn" inside the academy. When the journalist asked for the reason, the police officer said that “black-coloured ones are definitely not allowed today, either you remove it or cover it, don’t waste your breath with me.”

The officers provided masks in other colors for the journalists to change. “You can either change into this one, or you cover yours up.”

Hong Kong Court Asks Man to Change
Mask With Suspected Protest Iconography

#CarolNg, former chairperson of Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions (#HKCTU) and one of the “#NSL47”, has been remained under custody. She has requested bail on #Dec20, 2021 to the High Court, and the application was processed by Esther Toh Lye Ping, one of the designated judges for any #NationalSecurityLaw-related cases.

A court observer have worn a yellow and black mask with the #Bible verse (Amos 5:24), “But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream,” embroidered on it.

He was denied entry by security and court personnel under orders of the judge, and demanded that he change his mask before he would be allowed entry. They have not explained their reasons behind this act.

The observer was disgruntled by the request, and questioned, “If my clothes were not allowed in court, do I have to take them off them too?”

A similar incident also happened on #Dec17, 2021, when former head of the English edition of Apple Daily #LoFung (Fung Wai-kwong) requested bail.

Before the hearing began, Toh, through her secretary and Bailiffs, required observers wearing yellow masks or wearing hoodies with yellow umbrella insignias to change into “more appropriate” clothing, or be led away from the courtroom.

Some observers have questioned the requirement, questioning that those were “unsuitable” clothing, to which the Chief Bailiff stated, “it is inappropriate,” without further explaination.

HK Cheif Executive refuses to wear face covering in press briefing while tightening COVID control measures

In a press briefing on mid-February, Hong Kong Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, insisted on not wearing a #mask during her press conference.

When reporters again asked why she wasn't wearing a face covering, she taunted that reporters should let go of this matter, and focus on COVID-control measures.

On another press conference last month, Lam had explained that she had gone mask-less because "people need to understand and feel my feeling".
