Parents Bring Children Along to Vote in Primaries
At various long queues on the second day of primary voting in Hong Kong, one can often see parents bringing their kids to vote. For example, Mr. Lau brought his son in kindergarten and his daughter, less than 1 year old, to the polling station.
Mr. Lau expressed, "There is no reason not to exercise our remaining voting right. If there is a right to choose, I'll take it for now." When asked if he was afraid of violating the National Security Law, he laughed, "Lots of people are with me. I believe Hong Kong people are not that afraid of dying." As a father, he was not particularly pessimistic: "Our generation has our responsibility." He hoped to give his son and daughter the right mindset and bring changes to the society.
Ms. Yeung also brought her children to vote because she wanted to "vote while there is still a chance." She described that over the years the Legislative Council has been controlled by a group of people who "not matter how cannot push past the boundaries." As such, she wanted to vote in newcomers to "make a gamble." Yeung candidly expressed that she was pessismistic for her children, but won't emigrate in the near future. She knew that some candidates may be disqualified by the authorities and 35+ pro-democracy seats may not be reached, but she still hoped to continue resisting because, "doing nothing will definitely result in failure."

Mrs. Ho took her son and daughter to Mongkok for lunch, then let them go shopping for pastel chalks afterwards, while she went to buy groceries and planned to meet up with them later. However, her children soon messaged her that the area around the stationery store was cordoned off by the police, so they headed off to Sai Yeung Choi St South instead.
However, when Mrs. Ho arrived to meet them, she found them detained by the police and brought inside the cordon line.
Onlookers told her that they saw 4 riot police pinning her 12-year-old daughter to the ground, and her son was also roughly manhandled. The whole scene was chaotic.
"The cops just suddenly rushed in and pinned my daughter down...My daughter is only 12 years old! Is this how it is now? The younger you are, the easier you are to get picked on, and the more these cops will bully you?"
According to the footage from HKUST Radio News, the brother-and-sister pair, aged 20 and 12 respectively, were walking past a shuttered shop along with the nearby crowd. Suddenly, a plainclothes officer in a black T-shirt, wielding a baton and shield walked up beside them.
Startled by the police officer's intimidating presence, the girl began walking ahead at a brisk pace.
As she tried to weave through the crowd, a few seconds later, another riot police body-slammed into her head-on, knocking her off her feet. The officer then held onto her shirt and arm, as three more officers piled on top of her, pinning her to the ground. Meanwhile, her brother was held down by at least one other officer.
From what could be seen on the video, the area was not within police cordons at the time.

(9 Sep) I am still worried about that Aged-12 Girl, her injuries are both physically and mentally.
In a shopping mall, I met Y, he was hugging a PePe doll pacing around, looking impatient.
He was 12-year-old as well. One hand was hugging the doll, another was hanging a plastic bag. He was sometime shouting the slogans with the group, or looking back. He explained that he was scared the riot police might rush towards him in sudden.
He was alone, and was walking for nearly half hour to get to the shopping mall. He saved money for couple months to buy the Pepe Doll, for the purpose to display it in public. He was just studying primary p.6 this year, Y has been awaring of the local political situation. However, his parents disallowed him to come out last year because he was too young. So, do your parents permit you (to go out on street) now? He swung his head, saying his parent did not know it, but he insisted to come out.
His social movement experience started from last month. I Interviewed lot of teenagers and children, they all witnessed what have happened over the year it but could not participate. After a year, they thought that they have grown up, or it was the right time. Their little hands, bringing the white paper, holding the “five-one” gesture; while most of them did not have accompany, they actioned alone.
I asked him, why you were here. He replied with increasing agitation, the pregnant woman being pushed down, the secondary student being shot by real gun, 12 elder sisters and brothers being detained by CCP in PRC that their lives and deaths were uncertain, all of which were the root cause of his anger burning.
Someone is getting in trouble, not this boy, but those “it”s which are arrogant and think they have the highest power. All of these are left in these children’s heart with unforgettable imprints. Who could ask them to forgive, who could let them re-embrace this regime, no adult has such capability; maybe it can shut their mouths, but not their minds.
This is how this totalitarian is gradually pushing themselves into abyss. Our generation, and the next generation, no one will forgive, no one will forget. Their little hands, are shaking. Speaking loudly might make them feel better, that could release their fears temporarily, “I’m scared, but I will keep coming out, i will become braver”.
Yes, we all will become braver.

China fails to meet promises on missing Xinjiang children
Over the past two years, the Chinese authorities have repeatedly promised to help trace any children reported to be missing in Xinjiang, to prove that they haven't been forcibly separated from their parents. Those promises have not been met, reports John Sudworth.
The first time China made a public promise to help find Kalbinur Tursan's children was in 2019.

HK National Security Police cracks down even Speech Therapists over children’s books
On July 22, 2021, the Hong Kong Police’s National Security Department arrested 5 committee members of the General Union of Hong Kong Speech Therapists (#GUST) on "seditious publications", accusing them of "violating the Criminal Offences Ordinance".
Li Kwai-wah, a senior superintendent in the Police’s National Security Department, said in a news briefing that the book and others published by the Union are "instilling hatred among children".
He claimed that the book titled “The Guardians of Sheep Village” is taking the background of Anti-extradition Law Amendment Bill (Anti-ELAB) Movement in Hong Kong.
Li said the story of the wolves invading the village and devouring the sheeps is referring to the conflicts between mainland Chinese (the wolves) and HongKonger (the sheeps). He explained the Force's interpretation based on the book's depiction of wolves entering the village in sheep’s clothing as an allegory of local people’s livelihood being messed up.
Li also condemned that the book for depicting the sheeps retaliating the wolves’ attack with their horns.
According to Li. it is provoking violence and criminal behavior, “sheep, although mild and timid, is portrayed as ferocious and capable of inflicting violence.”
Some reporters pointed out that another book “The Cleaner of Sheep Village”, which describes the COVID-19 pandemic, is not from the same series.
Li, however, insisted that all the Union’s storybooks are connected and "part of a series”.
“Once you have read the first book and the second book, you’ll come to know who the sheeps and the wolves are alleging to. Readers will naturally follow the same logic when they read the third book.”

Hong Kong’s Court of Final Appeal has rejected an application to challenge a lower court’s bail refusal to a speech therapist, who was accused of publishing "seditious" children’s books about sheep and wolves.
Speech therapists Lai Man-ling, Melody Yeung Yat-yee, Sidney Ng Hau-yi, Samuel Chan Yuen-sum and Marco Fong Tsz-ho were arrested by Hong Kong national security police in July, 2021. They are accused of conspiring with Wong Hoi-ching, another member of the General Union of Hong Kong Speech Therapists, in printing, publishing, and distributing three children’s books, Guardians of the Sheep Village, 12 Warriors of the Sheep Village, and Dustman of the Sheep Village.
The were accused of intending to “bring into hatred of contempt or to excite disaffection” against the Hong Kong government and “the administration of justice in Hong Kong.”
They were charged with two counts of conspiring to publish, distribute, display or reproduce seditious publications, a breach of a colonial-era law under the Crimes Ordinance, and were denied bail.
Ng, one of the five defendants, took the case up to the Court of Final Appeal seeking leave to challenge the lower courts’ decisions.
Defence counsel Hectar Pun argued that the five defendants are facing charges under Section 10 of the Crimes Ordinance and not the National Security Law, and therefore the stricter threshold for granting bail should not apply.
Prosecutors argued that the Court of Final Appeal had ruled that sedition is considered an act that endangers national security. Violations of the Crimes Ordinance with relevance to the national security law may also endanger national security.
