Lawmakers Up In Arms
In afternoon of Dec 11, pro-China DAB lawmaker Wong Ting-kwong moved to relieve pro-democracy lawmaker Tanya Chan and Shiu Ka-chun of their duties as Members of Legislative Council, stating they were convicted of *criminal offences and were even sentenced to imprisonment, and therefore were “not fit for the job”. His motion was rejected as it didn’t manage to get pass the supermajority of two-thirds vote.
In return, pan-democractic camp Kwok Ka-ki and Claudia Mo moved to censure pro-establishment leader Junius Ho, accusing him of misdemeanors and breaching his oath such as “making a remark amounting to sexual and racial harassment of female members”. The motion was successfully passed. The council is now adjourned and will be dealing with the motion to censure Civic Passion member Cheung Chung-tai moved by pro-establishment figure Yung Hoi-yan.

The aforementioned lawmakers’ offences were linked to the 2014 Umbrella Movement, where they were charged with incitement to commit public nuisance.

Tibetan-American Policeman Arrested, Long Suspected of Infiltrating Tibetan Community in New York for China
Tibetan-American New York City Police Officer Baimadajie Angwang was arrested in late September on suspicion of being an agent for the Chinese government. This incident shocked the Tibetan community in New York. A Tibetan said Angwang does not know the Tibetan language well, told numerous lies, and had never even revealed his actual name. As a liaison between the Tibetan community and the law enforcement authorities, Anwang was welcomed by the community at first. As he acted suspiciously, however, the community became alert to his presence.
According to a member of the Tibetan community, Angwang first met them in January last year. Back then, he introduced himself as Ngawang Dhargyal in the Tibetan language, claiming that he had come from the Gyalrong region on the border of Tibet and Sichuan. Angwang had frequently attended their activities since then, sometimes in police uniform and offering counsel to Tibetan teenagers. During a celebration of the Tibetan New Year, he took a photo with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a rising star in the US House of Representatives.
But the community soon became wary of Angwang as he openly criticised Dorjee Tseten, a member of the Tibet Parliament in Exile as well as the CEO of the Asian division of Students for a Free Tibet, for his pro-Tibetan independence comments at the New Year event. Angwang said Tibetan community organizations should avoid sensitive political topics. He also repeatedly reminded members of the community not to be involved in politics and making such suggestions as removing the snow lion flag of Tibet hung outside the community centre. The members followed the advice as, according to Angwang, they could receive donations from Chinese businesses if they were not involved in political activities.

American media company, Axios exclusively reported that a senior German official suppressed the publishing of an intelligence report document as officials worry that it would possibly damage the economic relationship between Germany and China. The report described China’s expansion of influence in Germany.
The exclusive report quoted two former US intelligence officials, they stated that this report is highly-confidential report has been completed since 2018. The content of the report examines China’s intention to influence Germany government, their community and business market. However, a senior German official stopped the report circulating within the German government. It was reported that only the German Chancellor Markel and several officials had read the report. When Axios asked the spokesperson of the German Federal Government, the spokesperson said that the German government would not comment on intelligence discovery or the activity of an intelligence company, as a matter of principle. The Federal Intelligence Service in Germany had also not commented on it yet.
The German policies towards China have been affected by economic factors, and sometimes, this would influence the perspective of the German government on the human right and national security issues. A former German Ambassador in China Volker Stanzel said in an interview that “Germany depends on exports to a high degree, and that gives the business a large influence. Business representatives talk to the government and are used to being listened to. The Chinese Communist Party succeeded in globalising its economy because it was able to join itself to foreign business interests.”
Businesses tend to discourage their local government from implementing policies that would harm China’s economic relations. However, Beijing authorities increasingly conflict commercial trade with politics, including threats in order to implement punitive economic measures on companies which criticised the human rights in China. As a result, Peter Altmaier, a German Businessman and the Economy Minister, is incentivised to fade out the seriousness of the human rights violation and security challenges in China.

US media AXIOS discovered that the International Olympics Committee purchased uniforms from a Chinese enterprise Hengyuanxiang, but Hengyuanxiang always labels their products are made by Xinjiang cotton. International Olympics Committee responded that they had no right to change the political system in the sovereign country due to their political neutrality. Hengyuanxiang submitted a certificate to the International Olympics Committee, proving the uniforms' cotton is not from China.

Netherland's media De Volkskrant obtained a confidential document alleges that Huawei had access to monitor the calls of users of KPN, the largest telecommunications network in the Netherlands, 10 years ago. The Guardian reported that the confidential report, made for KPN by the Capgemini consultancy firm in 2010, concluded that Huawei could have been monitoring the calls of approximately 6.5 million users without KPN’s knowledge, including politicians such as former prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende and Chinese dissidents. Both KPN and Huawei deny the allegations. The Dutch telecommunications regulator announced on Monday (19 April) that it will investigate the incident.
According to the report, Huawei staff in the Netherlands and China could have monitored calls made by Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, local dignitaries, and Chinese dissidents. "The continued existence of KPN Mobile is in serious danger because permits may be revoked or the government and businesses may give up their confidence in KPN if it becomes known that the Chinese government can eavesdrop on KPN mobile numbers and shut down the network", de Volkskrant quotes the report.

Department of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan announced a press release today and indicated, Foreign Minister Wu Zhaoxie and Minister of Health Chen Shizhong jointly expressed the government’s serious dissatisfaction in protest, urged the WHO adheres professional neutrality, eliminate Chinese political interference, and let Taiwan join the meetings, systems and activities of WHO based on protecting all human’s well-being and fighting epidemic together.
Chen indicated on press release, this year WHA is still focusing on epidemic situation to build a healthier, safer and fairer world. Taiwan’s epidemic is warming up recently, which showing the virus is regardless of borders, even Taiwan cannot stay out. There should be no gap in global epidemic prevention, it needs to share globally all the information and professionally cooperation to fight the epidemic. Chen emphasized, Taiwan has not been invited to participate WHA is not the loss of Taiwan, but also the loss of the whole world. Health is the basic human right and universal value, and WHO as a professional international medical organisation, they should serve the health and well-being of all mankind and should not succumb to the political interests of specific member.

WHA had a video meeting today (24May). Taiwan is not invited in five consecutive years, however the proposals from 13 diplomatic countries which about inviting Taiwan to participate will be the main focus of the meeting. It was predicted that the diplomatic countries will have “two versus two debating” with China, emphasized the necessity of Taiwan being part of the WHO. British Minister Resigned Over Affair Scandal; Surveillance Camera Comes from Chinese enterprises monitoring Xinjiang
British Secretary of Health Matt Hancock, who was married, was revealed to have kissed a colleague, who was also married, in his office. Matt has resigned on 26 June, 2021.
What alarmed the British government the most is the leakage of the surveillance camera footage of Matt's office.
According to the media, the camera was menufactured by the Chinese company Hikvision, which provides CCP with equipment to monitor Xinjiang. The company has been blacklisted by the United States for violating human rights in Uyghur.
Although British security officers claimed that there was a low chance that the incident involved countries that are hostile to the UK, British politicians called on the government to pay attention to China-made monitoring devices.
British Labour Party member Conor McGinn indicated that "the problem is not just about the scandal of Matt Hancock being exposed, but the security crisis within the British government“.
McGinn demanded the goverment to respond to how "a private company that has a connection with China can reach the depth of Whitehall”.
