China uses an Italian doctor’s speech to propaganda

(25 Mar) A few days ago, Chinese official media, WeChat, and Hong Kong blue media propagated overwhelmingly, "Wuhan pneumonia originates from Italy." The only source is to quote a sentence from an Italian doctor Giuseppe Remuzzi interviewed by the American radio station, and then take it out of context. We explained it yesterday.

A fellow protestor sent an email to Dr Remuzzi to inquire about the truth. From the Italian expert's reply below, we could clearly know his original intention: Not only affirmed that Wuhan pneumonia originated in Wuhan, but he suspected that as early as the end of October, Wuhan pneumonia infection in Wuhan might has appeared, but the Chinese government didn’t announced it. During this period, a large number of Chinese people may have come to Italy from Wuhan, which caused some suspicious cases in Italy. Because all information from China was not transparent, the epidemic was out of control. The whole message is completely contrary to the Chinese official media's propaganda. This clearly showing what fake news is.

UK MP urges Hongkongers to provide evidence of Police brutality

(2 May) Luke de Pulford, a member of the Conservative Party Human Rights Commission, recently asserted his belief that the British Government should carry out an investigation on Hong Kong’s police brutality. He specifically mentioned Rupert Dover, David Jordan and Justin Shave, Britons serving in the territory’s police force, and appealed to the public for evidence of their involvement.

As of 29 April, de Pulford named the three as ‘key perpetrators’ on his Twitter account and insisted the UK government’s responsibility to carry out investigations on the conducts of its nationals. This was reiterated yesterday, when Luke announced that he is currently gathering evidence on the three in relation to a lawsuit. Once again, Luke urged the Hong Kong public to provide evidence as assistance.

Australia requests an independent investigation on COVID-19. Hu Xijin, chief editor of the Global Times describes Australia as “a chewed gum sticking on China’s shoe sole”

(29 Apr) The COVID-19 outbreak leads to loss of lives and economic loss. Australia is now urging other countries to investigate the outbreak and hope to learn a lesson and to improve response to new diseases in the future. However, China does not agree to an independent investigation. On 27 April, Hu Xijin, chief editor of the Global Times (a newspaper under the auspices of the Chinese Communist Party) posted an article on Weibo. He accused Australia of cooperating with the U.S. to blame China. He described Australia as “a chewed gum sticking on China’s shoe sole. Sometimes, you have to find a stone to remove it.” He also wrote that “after the pandemic, we should have greater risk awareness while we are doing business with Australia or sending our kids there to study.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson joined the war of words on the origin of the COVID-19 Urging Pompeo to hire experts to investigate when the virus first appears in the US.

(29 Apr)The US government has publicly accused China of concealing the Wuhan Pneumonia (COVID-19) epidemic a few times, while China has continuously responded to the US accusations through the diplomatic "war wolf." Earlier, Zhao, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson of China, claimed that the virus first appeared in the US and was brought to China by the US army. Recently, Hua, another spokesperson, repeatedly targeted Pompeo in her speech, urging US experts to look into when the deadly virus first appeared in the US, as US citizens have the right to know.

Since Wuhan Pneumonia started spreading in the United States, US Secretary Pompeo has criticized China for concealing the epidemic several times, be it in public speeches or during media interviews. Recently, he again called on China to be more transparent in the investigation of the origin of the virus.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Hua Chunying, has also targeted Pompeo in her recent speeches. In her tweet on Apr 27, Hua said Pompeo was accusing China of concealing the epidemic again in an interview with Fox and asked who is out there spreading false information. Hua also urged Pompeo to stop playing political tricks to save energy for saving lives.

Today, Hua retweeted Pompeo's tweet of requesting China to be more open and transparent in the investigation of the origin of the virus as US experts aren't allowed to investigate in China. Hua replied that "CPC is open, transparent & responsible in #COVID19 response. 2 US experts were in China on WHO-China joint mission in late Jan". Hua also countered Pompeo's query by stating that US experts should investigate when the virus first appeared in the US because Americans need to know and the world also has the right to know.

Australia hails global support for independent coronavirus investigation

//Australia’s foreign minister insists a motion that has won support from more than 120 countries will pave the way for an impartial, independent and comprehensive investigation into the handling of the Covid-19 outbreak.

//Draft resolution to the World Health Assembly calling for impartial evaluation of responses to the pandemic does not mention China

//Australia has been one of the most vocal and early advocates of an independent investigation into the origins and early handling of the coronavirus outbreak, a stance that has attracted strong pushback from China, which claimed it was a political “manoeuvre” against Beijing.

//Australian exporters are nervously awaiting a decision, due on Tuesday, on whether China will proceed with a plan to impose steep tariffs on barley, with key Australian ministers reporting they have struggled to secure phone calls with their Chinese counterparts.

//But China has been noticeably less critical of the European Union’s attempt to marshal support for its motion to the WHA which, among other things, proposes a review of lessons learned.

//The Australian government has kept the door open to taking the issue to the World Trade Organisation if China proceeds with plans to impose tariffs of around 80% on Australian barley imports.

//The New Zealand prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, said New Zealand was backing the motion because it was “sensible” to learn the lessons of Covid-19.

WHO Appointed Independent Investigations criticizing China for lack of Aggressive Reactions, and the WHO for Slow Reactions

The People's Vaccine Alliance, which was appointed by WHO to investigate the global COVID-19 pandemic, published an interim report. It criticized that China could be more proactive in public health precautions to stop the epidemic in January 2020 while the WHO took too long to announce COVID-19 as an international hygiene emergency.

COVID-19 was firstly found in Wuhan City, China in late 2019 and then spread to outside China which caused over 2 million deaths with a countless economic loss so far.

Alliance criticized that the regional and national hygiene department “obviously” could take more active public health precautions in January 2020. WHO convened an emergency committee meeting until the 22nd. They even were unable to immediately agree to announce the COVID-19 outbreak as a public health emergency for international concern. The verdict confirmed the agreement a week later, which was one month from the first announced case.

The report clearly expressed, “not sure why the committee had the meeting till the third week of January and why they cannot have a consensus at the first meeting”.

#US Intel agencies scour reams of genetic data from #Wuhan lab in Covid origins hunt

//US intelligence agencies are digging through a treasure trove of genetic data that could be key to uncovering the origins of the coronavirus -- as soon as they can decipher it.

This giant catalog of information contains genetic blueprints drawn from virus samples studied at the lab in Wuhan, China which some officials believe may have been the source of the Covid-19 outbreak, multiple people familiar with the matter tell CNN...

Officials conducting the 90-day review hope this information will help answer the question of how the virus jumped from animals to humans. Unlocking that mystery is essential to ultimately determining whether Covid-19 leaked from the lab or was transmitted to humans from animals in the wild...

Investigators both inside and outside the government have long sought genetic data from 22,000 virus samples that were being studied at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. That data was removed from the internet by Chinese officials in September 2019, and China has since refused to turn over this and other raw data on early coronavirus cases to the World Health Organization and the US.

The question for investigators is whether the WIV or other labs in China possessed virus samples or other contextual information that could help them trace the coronavirus' evolutionary history.

For now, senior intelligence officials still say that they are genuinely split between the two prevailing theories on the pandemic's origins, or some combination of both scenarios. CNN reported last month that senior Biden administration officials overseeing the 90-day review now believe the theory that the virus accidentally escaped from a lab in Wuhan is at least as credible as the possibility that it emerged naturally in the wild -- a dramatic shift from a year ago, when Democrats publicly downplayed the so-called lab leak theory.//
