What have you done, or are you doing something which you regard as strategic?

๐Ÿ’กThe more interest people show in your videos, the more likely it is that your videos will be recommended across YouTube ๐Ÿ’ก

How YouTube works in one sentence.

Have you thought about how good Telegram search is?

What does it mean for your content strategy for example.

Another reason I think TEXT is a terrible idea in YouTube thumbnails: embeds.

You cannot control the shape of the space your video is displayed in. Therefore you cannot control the display of text contained in your YouTube thumbnail.

I would recommend not including text in YouTube thumbnails.

Discuss how to use hashtags on Telegram

I've written up how I think they could be thought of and used for channels.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Is a picture worth a thousand words?

Maybe. Then this picture is a thousand words on what you should NOT do on YouTube.

What's your view? Comments here also show on the related blog post.

YouTube hashtag pages

I wrote a bit about hashtags for YouTube last year. Now the hashtag pages have been fully rolled out.

The example pictured is for the @TeamFordzilla's hashtag.

I would expect YouTube to surface links to hashtag pages in more places in the near future, so it's definitely worth strategically adding hashtags to your video uploads in 2021.

Strategy - Serve your audience

I've worked for Ford Europe for over a decade. As such my focus has always been on Ford's markets within Europe.

I recognise though that people who view communications I've posted on behalf of Ford Europe are also seen by people outside of Europe. What about them?

Although those people are not "my intended audience" they can still engage with Ford Europe. So I also strategically direct those people somewhere (fingers crossed) which is relevant to them.

Nearly 60% of those who have clicked on Ford.to/Ford (link used in FordEU's bio) were from the USA, so they are directed to Ford.com (The US site).

Elsewhere (outside of Europe) users are directed to Google News: ford.to/EUnews where Ford Europe's articles and video content is available.

Within Europe "my users" go to the relevant Ford national web portal.

The point I am trying to make is that there is a balance between what you want, which might be visits to a web page for example, and what is more appropriate for the viewer.

A good strategy in my opinion, serves your goals, but not at the expense of other users.

So although 70% of users have not been directed to "my destinations" I can still hope to have served them well.

Geo-tag OR Hashtag?

YouTube currently seems to allow you to Geo-tag a video OR hashtag a video, but not do both.

Bizzarly it seems that although YouTube's instructions with hashags are to add them in your video title or description, it appears that inclusion on the hashtag landing page is dependant on the hastag showing in the video chin, the small space below the video just above the video title.

The chin is where any geo-tag you have applied to the video shows and applying a geo-tag prevents any applied hashtags from showing in the chin.

So, it's really a choice of either or and for me in this use-case I dropped the geo-tag so that the video does get indexed for the hashtag page.

I'll seek some clarity from YouTube about this, as it would be helpful to be able to geo-tag AND use hashtags.

Want your YouTube videos to be viewed off of YouTube?

You will have seen that social media platforms are adding links to Corona information for posts which "talk about" Covid-19: YouTube has been adding this Covi-19 chin.

One consequence, which might not be obvious, is that videos such as this will not play in the embedded player. People will need to click through to watch on YouTube, where the chin is visible.

So, unless your video is really about Covid-19 do not mention Covid or Corona in your video titles or descriptions. As doing so removes the external opportunity to see.

Social Profiles - Information Density

In my recent blog post "You are crap at social media ... and it shows" there is a section where I suggest looking to see how "information dense" a users social profiles are. So here is an example of how I have packed Twitter's relatively restrictive profile section with as much relevant information motion as possible.

My current social project, which these three profiles are involved with is "MyStadtKรถln" so I have included the community hashtag.
I've also written up an article in English to try to encourage other community members who are engaging around the hashtag (so far daily on Instagram) to show their community support by also adopting the tag in their social profiles.

Does this example help illustrate profile information density?

Are your shared links fugly? ๐Ÿคช

I've just uploaded a short "How to Hyperlink text in Telegram Messenger" video on my YouTube channel.

Click or tap the hyperlinked text in this specific channel post to watch it ๐Ÿ‘

Don't share ๐Ÿคข ugly ๐Ÿคฎ links. HYPERLINK your text and share ๐Ÿ˜ beutiful links ๐Ÿ˜ instead.

The most overused and least understood word in the digital space.

I discovered this agency while walking around @MyBelgischesViertel which I am launching today.

I looked up their website and discovered their Twitter handle, which is pretty new and was not visible enough for me to have previously found for inclusion on the list of Cologne agencies I have built for @EnglishCologne

I'll say hello on Twitter, see if they respond. See if they follow the list maybe, or if they are just crap at social media.

Anyone managing a brand on social should take a look at Telegram's tweets and replies tab on Twitter.

Sure your client may not allow the freedom to craft a brand voice quite as well rounded, but there is plenty there to see and gain insight from.
