πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ The Battle of Al Karameh  Ω…ΨΉΨ±ΩƒΨ© Ψ§Ω„ΩƒΨ±Ψ§Ω…Ψ© | 1968 | Palquest

The battle of Al Karameh took place on 21 March 1968, in and around the small Jordanian town of al-Karama , in the Jordan Valley north of the Dead Sea . The battle involved invading Israeli forces and a combination of Palestinian guerrilla fighters (fedayeen) and forces from the Jordanian army. It was the first major Israeli invasion into Arab territory since the end of the 1967 War .

Although the Israeli army succeeding in destroying the fedayeen base at al-Karama, it suffered relatively heavy losses in the process, and the news of vastly outnumbered and outgunned fedayeen standing and fighting instead of retreating led to a massive upsurge in publicity and support for the Palestinian resistance movement, and Fatah in particular, launching it into the leadership of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) the following year.

The battle thus became a key moment in the development of the Palestinian resistance movement. At the same time, it set the stage for a confrontation between Palestinian guerrilla organizations and the Jordanian state, which would come to a head in the events of September 1970.

πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ Fida'i - (فِدائي)

A Tribute to All Palestinian Freedom Fighters!

"Fida'Δ«" (Arabic: ΩΨ―ائي, romanized: Fida'i, lit. 'Fedayeen warrior') is the national anthem of #Palestine.

Fida'i lyrics and Translation:

Revolutionary, revolutionary
Revolutionary, my land, land of my ancestors
Revolutionary, revolutionary
Revolutionary, my people, people of perpetuity
With my determination, my fire and the volcano of my revenge
With the longing in my blood for my land and my home
I have climbed the mountains and fought the wars
I have conquered the impossible, and crossed the frontiers
With the resolve of the winds and the fire of the guns
And the determination of my nation in the land of struggle
Palestine is my home, Palestine is my fire,
Palestine is my revenge and the land of endurance
By the oath under the shade of the flag
By my land and nation, and the fire of pain
I will live as a revolutionary*, I will remain a revolutionary,
I will end as a revolutionary - until my country returns
Revolutionary

πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ Al Fatah - Palestina - 1970 - Italian Documentary - no subtitles

AL FATAH - PALESTINE
Director: Luigi Perelli
Production company: Ufficio Cinema PCI - Year: 1970

A film on the Al Fatah movement. The documentary shows the daily activities in the refugee camps; it illustrates the political organization of the Resistance in its most important aspects such as the unions, the people’s army, the press; it informs on the organization of services, hospitals, schools; it describe military training in the camps; it follows a military action in the occupied territories and finally it reconstructs the battle of #Karameh.

The images filmed in the occupied territories and the testimony of political and military leaders – among them; Arafat himself – as well as of the people themselves show a complete picture of Al Fatah’s political and military action.

πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ Biladi, une rΓ©volution - 1970

Switzerland - Fr no Subtitles - Documentary | Director: Francis Reusser | 60 minutes

Jordan 1970 : Like a political tract, the film exalts the Palestinian revolution through the role of the combattants, women, workers and children. Revolutionary songs and poems punctuate the people's struggle for liberation. This film defends a cause that was very little supported at that time. 'Biladi, une rΓ©volution' is one of the very first (if not the first) films on the issue.

πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ We Are the Palestinian People: Revolution Until Victory (1973) Documentary

Made by a breakaway faction of the US Newsreel collective Pacific Newsreel, We Are the Palestinian People (Revolution Until Victory, 1973) edits exclusively archival footage into a detailed, historical reconstruction of the conflict. Great attention is paid to the political genesis of #Zionism, the role of colonial Britain in assigning Palestine to #zionists and the strategic role Israel has played ever since in the control and monopoly of the world’s most sought-after commodity, oil.

While other titles in the season stressed the internationalist dimension of the Palestinian #revolution by linking it to other #AntiColonial struggles, the same concept is rendered here specularly – for if #AntiImperialism is a transglobal phenomenon, so is #repression. Incorporated into the montage is footage of general Moshe Dayan visiting Vietnam to learn about counter-insurgency techniques.

πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ PFLP Ghassan Kanafani, Richard Carleton interview | 1970

Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine spokesman Ghassan Kanafani interviewed by Richard Carleton, #Beirut 1970. The conflict was fought between the Palestine Liberation Organisation (#PLO )under the leadership of #YasserArafat, and the Jordanian Armed Forces under the leadership of #KingHussein. At its core the civil war sought to determine if Jordan would be ruled by the Palestine Liberation Organisation or the Hashemite Monarchy. The war resulted in the deaths of thousands of people, the vast majority Palestinian. Armed conflict ended with the expulsion of the PLO leadership and thousands of Palestinian fighters to Lebanon. In 1972, #GhassanKanafani and his niece were killed in a car bomb set by the #Mossad outside his home, he was 36.

πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ Ghassan Kalafani | Palestine Poster Project Archive

Kanafani’s revolutionary journey began with the Arab Nationalist Movement but was cut short due to his disillusionment with its Pan-Arab agendas, which blurred and scattered the Palestinian identity in the process of creating a unified Arab geographical and political continuum.

It is by becoming a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in 1967 and especially helped by being the founder/editor of the widely circulated weekly Al-Hadaf, that Ghassan Kanafani transcended Arabism to Palestinianism.

Note : he was also the author of some of the very early FPLP posters (1968/69/70) & Paintings - Drawings

πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ Ghassan Kanafani: Voice of Palestine (1936-1972) - Palestine Chronicle –

Kanafani was one of the most important figures in 20th century literature. He was also a refugee, a revolutionary Marxist and an internationalist. The Israelis claimed the assassination was a response to the Lod Airport attack two months earlier, although Kanafani had played no direct role in this. He was, according to the obituary in the Lebanese Daily Star, β€˜a commando who never fired a gun, whose weapon was a ball-point pen, and his arena the newspaper pages.’ Kanafani was at the time of his death the official spokesman of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the editor of its paper #AlHadaf. The organisation saluted β€˜the leader, the writer, the #strategist, and the visionary.

πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ The Palestinian insurgency in South Lebanon

Was a multi-sided armed conflict initiated by Palestinian militants against Israel in 1968 and against Lebanese Christian militias in the mid-1970s. It served as a major catalyst for the outbreak of the #LebaneseCivilWar in 1975.

Fighting between the Palestinians and the #ChristianMilitias lasted until the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, which led to the expulsion of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) from Lebanese territory.

While the #PLO relocated to #Tunisia in the aftermath of Israel's invasion, other Palestinian militant factions, such as the #Syria-based #PFLP–GC, continued to carry out low-level operations from Syrian-occupied #Lebanon. After 1982, the insurgency is considered to have faded in light of the inter-Lebanese #MountainWar and the #Israel–#Hezbollah conflict, the latter of which took place for the duration of the Israeli occupation of South Lebanon.

πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ The Cairo Agreement, Explained

In the late ’60s, especially after Israel won the Arab-Israeli (6-Day) War [#TheWarInJune] in 1967, a strong presence of Palestinian guerillas began to grow in #Lebanon, and the frequency of their operations against Israel from within Lebanese territories increased as well.

On the evening of December 28th, 1968, the Israeli military commenced β€œ#OperationGift,” a #commando operation on #Beirut Airport that resulted in the destruction of 13 passenger planes and a total loss of $43.8 million.

The Israeli repeated retaliations partly aimed to provoke a response in the Lebanese against the militant Palestinian presence in their country.

However, at the time, a significant portion of the Lebanese population was in support of that presence, for reasons that include the prevailing sentiment in the region against the Israeli occupation of #Palestine and the sectarian rift that had begun to manifest between #Muslims and #Christians.
