πMolecular Motors
β Scientists at the National Centre for Biological Sciences have found a new type of molecular motor that could be used in life science and medicine.
πMolecular Motor:
β Molecular motors are a class of proteins that drive intracellular trafficking by converting chemical energy to mechanical work along cytoskeletal filaments.
β Molecular motor proteins are essential for muscle contraction and the movement of cilia and flagella. These structures allow cells to move and transport substances.
β Research on molecular motors has led to the development of potential new drugs that can improve heart function
β The cytoskeleton of a cell is made up of microtubules and filaments, which give the cell its shape and help organize the cell's parts.

βΎοΈDeccan Volcanism, a major event of volcanic eruptions which occurred ~66 million years ago and led to mass extinctions of fauna, did not have such negative impact on tropical flora, says a new study.
βΎοΈA study by Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP), an autonomous institute of Department of Science and Technology, suggests that despite highly devastating consequences for terrestrial faunas (dinosaurs, in particular), the Deccan Volcanism only caused regional and short-term impacts on the flora.

AMAZON BASIN:
The Amazon Basin is one of the most significant regions on Earth, both environmentally and economically.
Key Points:
1. Biodiversity Hotspot - Home to around 10% of the world's known species.
2) Carbon Storage: Acts as a carbon sink, absorbing vast amounts of carbon dioxide and helping mitigate climate change.
3) Oxygen Production: Known as the "Lungs of the Earth," the Amazon produces 20% of the world's oxygen.
4) Climate Regulation: The dense forests influence global and regional weather patterns, particularly rainfall.
5) Water Resources: Largest by discharge volume. The basin plays a critical role in the water cycle.
7) Economic Importance
Natural Resources: It provides timber, minerals, and other raw materials.
Tourism: Amazon's unique biodiversity attracts ecotourism, generating revenue for local economies.
8) Global Impact: Deforestation in the basin has global repercussions, including increased greenhouse gas emissions.
