When I sat down for my Amazon interview, I thought -

First round hai kya hi puch lenge ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜

They asked ๐“๐‘๐ˆ๐„ + ๐๐š๐œ๐ค๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  + ๐Œ๐ž๐ฆ๐จ๐ข๐ณ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง Que ๐Ÿ˜‘๐Ÿ˜ฃ

Socha kuch or ๐’๐ก๐ž๐ž๐ญ๐š๐ฅ, nikla kuch or ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Prepare well and don't assume they will ask easy questions.

In a recent interview, I was asked, do you know the concept of idempotency in APIs.
I had read it once but I couldn't recall it, felt dumb a bit, so I went back and I read all I can about it.

So here's an example, if the API's were not idempotent would have happened,

Let's say I want to buy a flight ticket from Ahmedabad to Delhi for 3000 INR. I am paying via my Paytm wallet having 10K balance.
I pressed the pay button but nothing happened so after a few seconds I again tried it and it was successful.

After a minute, I got 2 notifications saying we have booked your flight from Ahmedabad to Delhi and your current balance is 4000 INR, and with that follows a mild heart attack, and a loss of 3000 INR, and what if I was booking a flight from Ahmedabad to USA, ๐Ÿ˜ต๐Ÿชฆdead...(account balance).

But in real life, APIs are idempotent.
Meaning, when you press pay once, it stores your request, when you again retry it, it goes and checks, is it the same request??? If yes, it doesn't process it again and voilaa the payment is only done once.

In this article I have covered the following things:
โœ๏ธ Problem statements.
โœ๏ธ Discuss all the approaches.
โœ๏ธ Dry run with clean and proper diagrams.

If youโ€™re familiar with the above word then surely you might have worked on some kinds of APIs (especially those who are experienced developers) in your backend application. Maybe a payment gateway API, Google Maps API, Sending an Email APIs, or any other kind of APIs depending on the type of application and the requirements.

The most popular and common thing you will hear while working on API isโ€ฆ

What it is? Why is it being used? Why it is the first priority of programmers when it comes to implementing an API? Many questions will pop up in your mind when you will start working on REST API.

So here you will get all the answers.

It's every engineer's dream to get into top product-based companies, some of us called them FAANG or MAANG. Here I am sharing the journey you will go through the interview process from Amazon.

(Source : Internet) :

Amazon conducts 4 rounds to select freshers as SDE (SDE-1) in their organization off campus. The following rounds are conducted:
- Online Coding Round
- 2 Technical Rounds
- Bar Raiser round

This round is hosted online and the candidates are presented with 2 coding questions, the questions are of intermediate difficulty, mainly from Arrays, strings, and matrices.
To clear this round, one should have a strong understanding of these data structures.
Time given is 70 minutes.

Technical rounds are face-to-face algorithmic rounds in which candidates are presented with 2-4 questions, all from data structures. The most commonly asked DSs are the matrix, binary tree, BST, and Linked list.

The same as the previous round, however, the difficulty is increased and more questions from Trees, BST, and Tries are asked. One should have a clear knowledge of tree-based recursion, and the standard questions based on it are a must.

Amazon has 16 leadership principles and questions are asked on those, and generally, these questions are asked in all the interview round and especially in Bar raiser round along with 1-2 DSA problems.

- Never postpone your interview(That might lead to many gaps in dates because multiple candidates are giving interviews.)

- Take the Bar Raiser round seriously(Always prepare for leadership principle questions, It is the most important round of the process.)

 - Always focus on concepts(Never mug up the questions, always try to understand the questions.)

- Be confident about your answers(Never doubt yourself in the interview.)

- Always try explaining your approach before coding(It would be a better practice if you give a brute force approach.)

- Have a good understanding of time complexity(I was also asked TC of every question.)

Instead of learning solutions of LeetCode questions, understand patterns! ๐Ÿ™‚

For ex.

If input array is sorted then
- Binary search
- Two pointers

If asked for all permutations/subsets then
- Backtracking

If given a tree then
- DFS
- BFS

If given a graph then
- DFS
- BFS

If given a linked list then
- Two pointers

If recursion is banned then
- Stack

If must solve in-place then
- Swap corresponding values
- Store one or more different values in the same pointer

If asked for maximum/minimum subarray/subset/options then
- Dynamic programming

If asked for top/least K items then
- Heap

If asked for common strings then
- Map
- Trie

Else
- Map/Set for O(1) time & O(n) space
- Sort input for O(nlogn) time and O(1) space
