The European Union Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, held a series of important meetings to strengthen the partnership between the European Union and Libya, with the aim of supporting stability and unifying Libyan institutions.

Orlando concluded his tours with a meeting with Major General Saddam Haftar, Chief of Staff of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, General Command, where they discussed strengthening the partnership in response to the Derna flood that occurred last September.

The results of the meeting of the European Union technical mission on migration and border management were also reviewed, and the two sides stressed the importance of cooperation in the sectors of saving lives at sea and in the desert, combating human smuggling, and strengthening the capabilities of law enforcement agencies.

Informed sources reported that Haftar met during his visit with the interim president of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré, at the presidential headquarters in Ouagadougou.

The sources confirmed that this visit came within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and exchanging views on regional and international issues of common interest.

Libya has witnessed new military movements by the Libyan Arab Armed Forces towards the southwest of the country in a move aimed at combating illegal activities such as arms trafficking, oil smuggling and drug trafficking across the border.
