Sudan’s public prosecutor, under army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has charged former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and 15 others with up to death.

Sudanese state television said prosecutors had “filed a complaint” against Hamdok and 15 others, including party leaders and journalists, accusing them of “undermining the constitution and inciting war against the state and genocide,” charges that carry the death penalty, and demanded that they surrender within a week.

The statement included former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, former Foreign Minister Maryam al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, Sudanese Congress Party leader Omar al-Digair, party deputy chairman Khaled Omar Youssef, and former Sudanese Sovereignty Council member Mohamed al-Faki Suleiman.

Somalia’s military court has sentenced a police station director and his deputy to death accused of kidnapping and killing a trader.

The court sentenced to death the director of police in Mogadishu’s Halwa district, Abdifatah Mohamed Hassan, and his deputy, Mohamed Abdi Mohamed, on charges of kidnapping and premeditated murder of merchant Abubakar Ahmed Kabah on 24 February 2024.

The court revealed the involvement of the two individuals in planning and carrying out the murder, and sentenced Liban Mohamed Omar and Hassan Mohamed Saeed to 15 years in prison, and Mohamed Adawi Ali and Yassin Abdi Jama to 10 years in prison for their participation in the conspiracy.

The military court decided to strip the defendants of their military ranks and expel them from the police force.

Iraqi authorities executed at least 11 people by hanging this week after convicting them of “terrorist offences” and belonging to the Islamic State.

Agence France-Presse, quoting a security official in Dhi Qar province (south), said that “11 ISIS terrorists were executed in al-Hout prison in the city of Nasiriyah under the supervision of a team from the Ministry of Justice.”

A medical source in the Dhi Qar Health Department confirmed “the receipt of the bodies of 11 defendants who were executed inside Al-Hout prison on Monday.”

On April 18, an Iraqi court sentenced to death eight people accused of recruiting prisoners into prisons for ‘ISIS’.

In February, Iraq executed five Iraqis convicted of “terrorism” in Nasiriyah prison.

The Saudi Interior Ministry has revealed details of a horrific rape and murder carried out by a citizen who kidnapped a woman to a “remote place far from help,” announcing his execution.

A statement issued by the Saudi Interior Ministry on Wednesday said: “Saleh bin Madi bin Nasser al-Subaie, a Saudi national, took amphetamine, boarded a woman in his car, drove her to a remote place far from relief, assaulted her by beating, stabbing and forcibly committed obscenity with her.”

The statement explained that the security authorities succeeded in arresting the perpetrator, and after interrogating him, his involvement in the crime was proved, and he was referred to the competent court, where a verdict was issued convicting him of what was attributed to him.

Morocco’s National Human Rights Council, through its President Amina Bouayach, announced that Somalia has agreed to transfer six Moroccan nationals convicted on charges related to their links to ISIS.

Bouayach confirmed that this agreement will allow those sentenced to serve their sentences in Morocco, after they were convicted to death last February by a Somali military court.

Bouayach made this statement on the sidelines of a seminar dedicated to the Council's international relations organized within the framework of the 29th International Book and Publishing Fair.

Bouayach pointed to the joint efforts between Moroccan NGOs and official authorities to rescue and repatriate sentenced Moroccan citizens in Somalia, reflecting solidarity and concern for human rights and justice.

Several other Moroccan NGOs have mobilized their efforts by calling on the kingdom's official authorities to rescue and repatriate the six Moroccan nationals sentenced to death on February 29th by a military court in northern Somalia on terrorism-related charges.

Death sentences issued by Sudanese courts against a number of people on charges of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces sparked a wave of controversy in the country’s legal and political circles.

Last Thursday, the Gedaref Court issued a death sentence against a person on charges of providing intelligence information to the Rapid Support Forces, which included military details about the cities of eastern Sudan. The Sudanese News Agency reported that the ruling comes in the context of several similar rulings issued by the same court.

Yesterday, Monday, the first session of the criminal case, known in the media as “Anstalingo,” was held via remote trial technology.

The official spokesman for the Court of First Instance in Sousse, Wissam Al-Sherif, confirmed in a statement to the Tunisian “Mosaique” newspaper that the court decided to postpone the session to June 8, 2024.

Al-Sharif explained that the court rejected all requests for release, issued a deposit card against one of the defendants, and also decided to provide a sign language specialist for a defendant suffering from hearing loss to ensure that she communicates effectively during the trial.

Al-Sharif also indicated that the rest of the defendants who were temporarily released and detained in connection with other cases will be summoned and brought.

On Monday, the Egyptian Court of Cassation issued a final death sentence for former judge Ayman Abdel Fattah, after convicting him of killing his media wife, Shaima Gamal, and burying her inside a farm in the Badrashin area of Giza, according to local Egyptian newspapers.

The government newspaper Al-Ahram reported that the Court of Cassation upheld the death sentence for Abdel Fattah and his partner in the crime, Hassan Al-Gharably, the owner of a contracting company, which was issued by the South Giza Criminal Court in September 2022.

Investigations showed that the first accused, Ayman Hajjaj, who was the victim’s husband, planned to kill her because she threatened him with revealing their secrets, as he had business transactions and partnerships that were not permitted by his position, as he worked as a judge and vice president of the State Council.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq issued a death sentence against the wife of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the terrorist organization ISIS, after convicting her of working with the organization and detaining Yazidi women in her home.

The Council explained that the Yazidi women were kidnapped by gangs of the terrorist organization in the Sinjar district, west of Nineveh Governorate, and then the accused held them captive in her home in Mosul.

According to a source in the court who requested to remain anonymous because he is not allowed to speak to the media, the Central Criminal Court issued a death sentence by hanging against Al-Baghdadi’s wife after she was found guilty of crimes against humanity and the crime of genocide against the Yazidis, in addition to her involvement in terrorist activities.
