The Egyptian authorities’ statement did not specify the exact date of the incident or whether it was still ongoing.

In the same context, two sources from nature reserves in the southern Egyptian Sinai Peninsula told AFP that a Liberian-flagged natural gas tanker ran aground in the Gulf of Aqaba on Friday and was taken away.

One of the sources said the ship was taken to the port of Sharm el-Sheikh. They stated that the tanker was empty and suffered an engine failure.

On the anniversary of the liberation of the Sinai Peninsula, Egyptian media highlighted what they said were “crimes committed by the Israeli army” during its occupation of Sinai, particularly in the Egyptian city of Rafah.

A report by the Egyptian newspaper “Al-Shorouk” revealed a series of bitter events that took place in the city of Rafah during the period of the Israeli occupation, between the war of setback, the war of liberation, displacement, and settlement dreams, leading to the joy of liberation and the exit of settlers.

The report pointed to Israeli plans to build a major settlement in Sinai with the aim of isolating the Gaza Strip from Egypt and explained that Israeli leader Ariel Sharon managed to displace about 5,000 Bedouins from the Rumailat tribes in 1972 in favor of building the Yamit settlement.

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has discovered the remains of an archaeological building in the North Sinai region, dating back to the reign of King Thutmose III of the 18th dynasty in the New Kingdom.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, the Egyptian archaeological mission succeeded in uncovering this important edifice during excavations at the archaeological site of Tell Haboua (Tharo), within the Sinai Development Project.

The statement explains that the archaeological building was built of mud bricks and appears to have been part of rest houses or royal palaces in the area.

Two consecutive rectangular halls were discovered in the building, as well as several other rooms and halls attached to it, with a main gate from the north leading to the first hall.

According to preliminary analyses, this building dates back to the era when King Thutmose III ruled and is believed to have been used as a royal rest due to its sophisticated architectural layout and the scarcity of pottery fragments inside.

The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Egyptian Antiquities, Mohamed Khaled, expressed the importance of this discovery, which sheds light on new aspects of Egypt’s military history during the New Kingdom, especially in the Sinai region.

Israeli media claimed that Egypt intends to wage war against Israel, and that it has built a huge military infrastructure in Sinai in preparation for this war.

Israeli researcher Eli Clotstein from the “Mishgav” Institute for National Security and Zionist Strategy stated, in a report published by the “Makorrishon” website, that the recent developments in Sinai raise concern, even though there is no direct threat from Egypt at the present time.

Clotstein explained that the disengagement process from the Gaza Strip in 2005 was a turning point, as Israel allowed Egypt to deploy security forces in Sinai for the first time since the 1979 peace agreement.
