Two helicopters of the Japanese Navy’s Self-Defense Forces crashed on Saturday in the Pacific Ocean off the Izu Islands, killing one crew member, and missing 7 others.

Japanese Defense Minister Minoru Kihara confirmed during a press conference that the helicopters were participating in a night exercise when the accident occurred, and that the cause of the crash was still unknown.

“The priority is to save lives,” Kihara said, stressing that attempts to find the missing are still ongoing, possible debris has been detected at the scene, and search and rescue operations are expected to continue in the area.

Communication with one of the helicopters, the Mitsubishi SH-60K, was cut off at 22:38 local time (13:38 GMT), and 25 minutes later, the second helicopter was confirmed to have been disconnected.

The incident comes a year after another Japanese UH-60JA military helicopter crashed in the Okinawa area, killing all ten crew members.

the U.S. Navy Ships have spotted unidentified flying objects that can move easily in the air and in the waters of the world’s oceans.

The incident has sparked concern among Pentagon officials about its potential threats to U.S. maritime security.

On July 25, sailors aboard three U.S. vessels noticed a similar phenomenon, and a subsequent investigation by Pentagon experts was unable to determine the nature or origin of the phenomenon.

According to Popular Mechanics, this phenomenon was also documented when, on July 15, 2019, the naval ship Omaha spotted a mysterious flying object near the coast of San Diego, prompting the ship’s caretakers to head by helicopter to explore the situation.

The “Noro” virus spread on two U.S. cruise ships, with reports of passengers suffering from severe symptoms of the virus, which included diarrhea and vomiting.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating why the virus spread on both ships.

Cases of the virus were recorded on board the “Radiance of the Sea” during its voyage from Tampa to Los Angeles between April 8 and 22, with some 67 of the 1,993 passengers reporting symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting, as well as two crew members.

Nearly 94 of the 2,532 passengers on board the “Sapphire Princess” and 20 of the 1,066 crew members reported similar symptoms during its voyage from Los Angeles to the South Pacific, which began on April 5 and is scheduled to end on May 7.

“Noro” virus is highly contagious and is often transmitted through contaminated food, contaminated water, or surfaces, and can also be transmitted through close contact with infected people.

America is facing large outbreaks of this virus, with data released by US centers active in disease control revealing that “in the week ending February 17, more than 12% of the virus tests came back positive.”

“Cases are particularly high in the northeast of the country, where more than 13% of tests have come back positive,” the data noted.

The Ibo volcano on Indonesia’s Halmahera island witnessed a violent eruption on Saturday evening, releasing an ash cloud about four kilometers high into the sky.

The volcano, which has recorded several eruptions since the beginning of the month, showed lines of purple lightning around its crater, as Indonesian authorities, in cooperation with police and the military, evacuated residents from seven surrounding villages in response to the growing threat.

The evacuations were carried out overnight and included assisting the elderly and moving residents to temporary shelters.

On Thursday, Indonesia’s volcanology agency raised the alert level to the highest level after the volcano erupted several times earlier this month, and the authority recommended evacuating an area with a radius of seven kilometers around the volcano.

This volcanic activity is part of a series of volcanic eruptions in Indonesia, known for its "ring of fire" in the Pacific Ocean, where there are more than 127 active volcanoes.

On May 8, 2024, of this month, Indonesian authorities announced the eruption of the volcano about 1,325 meters high, located on the island of Maluku, and ejected volcanic ash about 2,000 meters above its peak.
