The Italian humanitarian organization “Emergency” announced on Saturday that it had rescued 87 migrants, including women and children, in the Mediterranean Sea off the Libyan coast.

🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾

The migrant boat had set off from Zawiya in northwestern Libya before being intercepted by the Life Support Emergency Rescue Ship on Friday night, the organization said.

The organization reported that the boat was overcrowded, and water and food had run out, with 8 women among the migrants, including a pregnant woman, 3 children and 14 minors.

The rescued migrants were from Sudan, Nigeria, Niger, South Sudan, Eritrea, Bangladesh, Mali, Togo, Chad, Ghana, Liberia, Cameroon, Senegal, and Ivory Coast.

“Médecins Sans Frontières” (MSF) noted that the lack of safe and legal options, as well as the violence against migrants in Libya, forces them to cross by sea and increases the number of victims.

Hamouda pointed out in press statements that there are many companies that export various products, including dates, honey, pasta, couscous, fish, packaged foodstuffs, and building materials.

Hamouda added that Libyan exports are heading to countries in Africa, Europe, and Asia, especially to Sweden, Turkey, Niger, Malaysia, and Singapore.

France has acknowledged committing a massacre of African soldiers in Senegal in 1944, noting that the soldiers killed in the “Thiaroye” barracks in December of that year “died for France,” as it put it.

According to the decision published by the French National Office for Veterans and War Victims, and reported by the Turkish Anadolu Agency, the phrase “died for France” will be used to honor four soldiers from Senegal, one from Ivory Coast, and another from Burkina Faso.

This phrase is used to refer to soldiers who died in wars and military operations in which France participated.

The “Senegalese Riflemen” unit was composed of African soldiers who fought for France on several fronts during World War II.
