Времена рабовладельцев в Африке канули в Лету, а вместе с тем породили и оставили потомкам удивительные культуры и даже религии. Каждый год поклонники культа вуду собираются на юге Бенина в рамках большого и красочного фестиваля чтобы вызвать духи предков и воспеть свои божества.

Наша экспедиция отправится на фестиваль вуду, а также исследует племена южного и северного Бенина и заглянет в Того, где тамберма строят свои знаменитые дома-крепости.

🇧🇯БЕНИН: ДЕРЕВНЯ ГАНВЬЕ🛶

На второй день наша команда в Бенине посетила деревню Ганвье (ган вье - спасённое сообщество от рабства).

Африканская Венеция Ганвье находится на озере Нокуэ (Nokoue), где дома стоят на сваях в воде, а жители перемещаются на лодках.

В 16-17 веке люди Тофину (Tofinu), родственные Йоруба (Yoruba), спасаясь от работорговцев Догомеи, укрылись на острове. Богатое рыбой озеро не только смогло их прокормить, но и позволить вырасти деревне так, что нынче, с населением более 30 тысяч жителей, Ганвье является самой большой деревней Африки.

🇧🇯BENIN: GANVIE VILLAGE🛶

On the second day of expedition our team visited Ganvie village (gan vie - saved community from slavery).

African Venice - Ganvi village is situated on Nokoue lake, where the houses are on piles, and people move on boats.

In 16-17 centuries Tofinu people (related to Yoruba), trying to escape slavery hid on the island. The lake, rich with fish, could feed them and build such a village, which now numbers over 30000 people. Ganvie is the biggest village of Africa.

Церемония Зангбето является частью культуры Вуду в Бенине и Того. Зангбето в религии вуду известны как "ночные стражи". Их костюмы напоминают стога сена. Зангбето высоко почитаются и действуют как неофициальная полиция, патрулирующая улицы, наблюдающая за людьми, выслеживающая преступников и представляющая их обществу для наказания.

🇧🇯 BENIN: ZANGBETO FROM A DRONE

See some photos of Zangbeto ceremony from a drone, and some photos of the sea🌊

Zangbeto ceremony appears a part of Voodoo culture in Benin and Togo. Zangbeto are the traditional guardians of the night in Voodoo religion which are known as the "Nightwatchmen". Their costumes resemble a haystacks, are highly revered and act as an unofficial police force patrolling the streets, watching over people and tracking down criminals and presenting them to the community to punish.

🇧🇯БЕНИН: ЗДРАВСТВУЙ ВУДУ НОВЫЙ ГОД🎄

В этот день поклонники культа вуду празднуют Новый год, который символизирует «полное обнуление»0️⃣👌
Сначала наша команда побывала на церемонии жертвоприношения, где богам были принесены баран и курица🐏🐔 впечатляющее зрелище

Затем мы посмотрели танцы, и король пригласил нас в свою резиденцию, где собрались высокопоставленные лица

Мы также посмотрели церемонию Zangbeto. По традиции считается, что внутри стогов сена нет людей. И нам даже демонстрировали, - открывали сено и показывали, что внутри никого нет, после чего стог благополучно продолжал свой танец💃 магия, не иначе 🪄😃

И далее был завораживающий танец Egungun, где вызывают духов предков🧞

On this day, worshippers of the voodoo cult celebrate the New Year, which symbolizes "complete zeroing" 0️⃣👌
First, our team attended a sacrifice ceremony, where a sheep and a chicken were brought to the gods🐏🐔 It was an impressive sight

Then we watched the dances, and the king invited us to his residence, where dignitaries gathered

We also watched Zangbeto ceremony. Traditionally, it is believed that there is nobody inside the haystacks. And they even demonstrated it to us - they opened the hay and showed that there was no one inside, after which the haystack continued its dance💃 Magic 🪄😃

And then there was the enchanting dance Egungun, where the spirits of the ancestors are summoned🧞

🇧🇯БЕНИН: ЛЮДИ БЕТАММАРИБЕ🛖

Племя бетаммарибе (мн. ч) или отаммари (ед. ч.) живут в домах-крепостях (tata somba), которые, внесены в список Всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО.

Люди бетаммарибе практикуют ритуальное шрамирование. Эти шрамы – форма пожизненной идентификации (своего рода ID в виде татуировки), которые определяют принадлежность человека к определенному племени, а также содержат закодированную информацию. Первые шрамы начинают наносить уже в возрасте 2-3 лет. Дополнительные метки добавляются в пубертатный период, перед свадьбой, после рождения ребенка, в качестве формы визуального контакта. Шрамы располагаются на областях от лица до живота и спины. На стены домов они наносят такие же узоры🛖

🇧🇯BENIN: BETAMMARIBE PEOPLE🛖

Betammaribe (plural) or Otammari (sing) people live in fortress houses (tata-somba) which are listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site.

Betammaribe practice ritual scarification.
Not only for beauty, but also for identification. These scars are a form of lifelong identification (a kind of ID in the form of a tattoo), which determines a person’s belonging to a particular tribe, and also contains encoded information. The first scars are made in the age of 2 or 3. Additional tags are added during puberty, before wedding, after giving birth, as a form of visual contact. Scars are applied onto the body from the face to the abdomen and back. They also put such drawings on the walls of their houses🛖

🇪🇹 ОБЫЧАИ: ГЛИНЯНЫЕ ГОЛОВЫ ПЛЕМЕНИ ХАМЕР 👨🏿‍

Мужчины племени хамер в Долине Омо в Южной Эфиопии уделяют особое внимание своей прическе. Мужчина, убивший опасное дикое животное или врага, защищая свой скот от набегов другого племени, в знак становления воином делает замысловатую причёску из глины, интегрируя туда не только свои волосы, но и страусиные перья и даже мех животных. Поскольку глина высыхает, прическа становится хрупкой как керамика. Мужчина бережёт ее как зеницу ока. Для этого он спит, аккуратно подкладывая под шею специальный стульчик-подушку, называемый borkotos. Borkotos используется днём в качестве стульчика, а ночью как подушка. Хамеры практически никогда не расстаются с borkotos.
Другое украшение хамеров - серьги. Впрочем они имеют практическое значение, определяя социальный статус их обладателя, - по количеству серёжек в каждом ухе можно судить о том, сколько у мужчины жён.

🇪🇹 CUSTOMS: ADOBE HEADS OF HAMER👨🏿‍

Men of the Hamer tribe in the Omo Valley in Southern Ethiopia pay special attention to their hairstyle. A man who killed a dangerous wild animal or enemy, protecting his cattle from raids of hostile tribe, makes, as a sign of becoming a warrior, a sophisticated clay hairstyle, which involves not only his hair, but also ostrich feathers and even animal fur. As the clay dries, the hairstyle becomes fragile like ceramic. The man cherishes it like the apple of his eye. To do this, he sleeps carefully placing a special “pillow-chair” called borkotos under his neck. Borkotos is used during the day as a chair, and at night as a pillow. Hamers almost never part with borkotos.
Another decoration of the Hamers is earrings. However, they have practical value, determining the social status of their owner. You can judge how many wives a man has looking at the number of earrings in each his ear.
