🇪🇹 БОИ НА ПАЛКАХ ДОНГА👨🏿
Среди мужчин сурма (сури) на западном берегу реки Омо в Эфиопии более остальных качеств ценится сила и смелость. Каждый год, после сезона дождей, когда еда в изобилии, мужчины сурма из разных кланов собираются чтобы сразиться в боях на палках «донга» и выявить сильнейшего. Донга является своего рода инициацией, церемонией становления юношей мужчинами, воинами, которые в случае столкновений с соседними племенами будут готовы отстоять честь племени и сохранить их скот.
По традиции, перед Донгой мужчины собираются у реки и наносят друг другу боевой раскрас. В качестве краски используют известняковый налёт на камнях. Это процедура, в которой принимают участие только мужчины. Далее мужчины проводят своеобразные дуэли на длинных палках на глазах у девушек, которых они хотят покорить. Участники выступают без одежды. Бои часто заканчиваются кровопролитием и иногда даже смертью дуэлянта. Впрочем, смерть участника отнюдь не считается нормой и может повлечь наказание для причинителя, если это произошло намеренно.

Among Surma (Suri) men on the western bank of the Omo River in Ethiopia, strength and courage are the most valuable criteria in male beauty. Every year, after rainy season, when plenty of food is available, Surma men of different clans gather to fight with Donga sticks and choose the strongest. Donga appears a kind of rite of passage, a ceremony of becoming a man, a warrior who, in case of raids of neighboring tribes, will be ready to defend the honor of the tribe and preserve their cattle.
Traditionally, before Donga fighting, men get togetger at the river and apply war paint onto each other. As a paint, limestone is used. They find it on the rocks in the river. This is a event where only men participate. Then the men do a kind of duel on long sticks called Donga in front of the girls that they want to conquer. Fighters perform naked. Fights often end in bloodshed and sometimes even the death of a duelist. However, the death of a fighter is by no means considered the norm and may result in punishment for the causer if it was caused intentionally.

Наиболее примечательным в их внешности являются чёрные вуали, которые незамужние девушки носят в обязательном порядке. Наголо выбритая голова - признак красоты и невинности ее обладательницы.
Среди украшений Арборе широко распространены массивные украшения из алюминия, а также сандалии, произведённые из бывших в употреблении автомобильных покрышек.

Также, весьма необычной для Долины Омо является традиция татуирования лиц замужних женщин. Происхождение этой традиции не известно, но, вероятно, является способом самоидентификации племени. Между цамай и бенна разрешены браки, но всегда только в одном направлении: девушка цамай выходит за мужчину бенна, и никак иначе.

Women of Tsamai tribe in the Omo Valley in Ethiopia adorn themselves with beads and goat skins, like their “cousins” from Hamer and Banna, but they also invented something of their own, for example, wigs! Also the tradition of tattooing faces of married women is rather unusual for the Omo Valley. The origin of this tradition is unknown, but it is probably a way of tribal self-identification. Marriages between Tsamai and Banna are allowed, but always in only one way: Tsamai girls marry Banna men, and no other way.

С 14 по 25 ноября, на правый берег реки Омо, где сурма ежегодно, после сезона дождей, проводят фестиваль Донга – бои на палках!
Донгу нам подтверждают, так что у нас все шансы!
Мы близко соприкоснёмся с бытом и культурой племен сурма и ньянгатом, и мы также не упустим возможности заехать на левый берег в гости к каро, дассанеч, эрборе, боди, хамер и их куда менее раскрученным кузенам бена, у которых примем участие в Bulls’ Jumping Ceremony!
Будем ловить другие событийные истории в племенах (это высокий сезон для такого рода случаев) и все в лучших традициях наших этно-экспедиций. Лидирует Мзунгу!

Dear friends, we are going to Ethiopia!🇪🇹
November 14-25, right bank of the Omo river, where every year, after the rainy season, Surma hold the Donga stick fighting festival!
Donga is confirmed, so we have a real chance to get there!
We will touch the life and culture of Surma and Nyangatom tribes. We will also snatch an opportunity to stop on the left bank and see Karo, Dassanech, Erbore, Bodi and Hamer and their less famous cousins Benna where we participate in famous Bull Jumping Ceremony.
We will also try to catch other events in the tribes (it is a high season for it) and all what we love in ethnic expeditions! Mzungu leads!

🇪🇹ПЛЕМЕНА: КРОВЬ С МОЛОКОМ🐃
Скотоводы сурма, или сури (Долина Омо, Южная Эфиопия) пасут своих коров вдалеке от дома, всецело подчиняя свою жизнь ритму животных. Вместо завтрака - молоко из-под коровы и кровь, только что взятая из яремной вены быка. А ночь вокруг костра, среди животных, как и скотоводы, вымазанных пеплом и навозом, чтобы отпугивать насекомых. Сурма живут здесь так же, как жили их предки сотни лет назад.

🇪🇹TRIBES: MILK AND BLOOD🐃
Surma, or Suri (Omo Valley, Southern Ethiopia) breeders graze their cows far away from villges, fully adjusting their live to the animals’ lives. For breakfast they drink fresh milk from the cows and blood from the bulls’ jugular veins. During nights they sleep around the fire, among the animals, smeared as their breeders with ash and dung in order to protect themselves from insects. Surma live here as their ancestors hundreds years ago.
