Церемония Зангбето является частью культуры Вуду в Бенине и Того. Зангбето в религии вуду известны как "ночные стражи". Их костюмы напоминают стога сена. Зангбето высоко почитаются и действуют как неофициальная полиция, патрулирующая улицы, наблюдающая за людьми, выслеживающая преступников и представляющая их обществу для наказания. Первоначально созданный для отпугивания врага, Зангбето бродят по улицам, чтобы обнаружить воров и ведьм, а также обеспечить закон и порядок.

Пока весь мир говорит о введении биопаспортов, племена на севере Бенина и Того давно «ими пользуются». Племена таммари (бетамарибе), строящие свои знаменитые дома-крепости (tata somba), не только для красоты, но и для идентификации, производят ритуальное шрамирование. Эти шрамы – форма пожизненной идентификации (своего рода ID в виде татуировки), которые определяют принадлежность человека к определенному племени, а также содержат закодированную информацию. Первые шрамы начинают ставить уже в возрасте 2-3 лет. Дополнительные метки добавляются в пубертатный период, перед свадьбой, после рождения ребенка, в качестве формы визуального контакта. Шрамы располагаются на областях от лица до живота и спины.

While the globe is talking about issuing of biometric passports, the tribes in the north of Benin and Togo have long been "using them." Tammari (Betamaribe) tribes, building their famous fortress houses (tata somba), perform ritual scarification. Not only for beauty, but also for identification. These scars are a form of lifelong identification (a kind of ID in the form of a tattoo), which determines a person’s belonging to a particular tribe, and also contains encoded information. The first scars are made in the age of 2 or 3. Additional tags are added during puberty, before wedding, after giving birth, as a form of visual contact. Scars are applied onto the body from the face to the abdomen and back.

Одна из достопримечательностей Бенина, признанная ЮНЕСКО объектом всемирного наследия, это Ворота невозврата, которые находятся на берегу Гвинейского залива в городке Вида.
Когда-то эта территория Бенина (равно как и часть территории современного Того), входила в состав Королевства Дагомеи, которое вело активную работорговлю и стало крупнейшим в Западной Африке экспортёром рабов в Америку.
Ворота завершают дорогу, по которой вели на корабли невольников, чтобы увезти навсегда в их новую полную страданий жизнь.
Дагомея процветала благодаря работорговле, а Вида была главным портом экспорта рабов.
Мы будем в Виде на 9й день нашей экспедиции.

🇧🇯BENIN: GATE OF NO RETURN IN OUIDAH🧑🏿

One of the sites of Benin, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, is the Gate of No Return, which is located on the shores of the Gulf of Guinea in the town of Ouidah.
Once this territory of Benin (as well as part of the territory of modern Togo) was part of the Kingdom of Dahomey, which led an active slave trade and became the largest exporter of slaves to America in West Africa.
The gate ends up the road that led the slaves to the ships in order to take them away forever into their new life of suffering.
Dahomey flourished due to the slave trade, and Ouidah was the main export port for slaves.
We will be in Ouidah on the 9th day of our expedition.
