As the virulent #COVID_19 spreads all over the world, some foreigners living in China might urge their government to take action. Some countries such as Taiwan, Japan and USA have already evacuated their own citizens out of China in a bid to protect their citizens from being infected by virus. Most of foreigners support the decisions of their government.

However, some foreigners decided to stay in China, rather than returning back to their countries. The reason is not only just to keep their homes away from the the virus. They also get to enjoy free medical treatments provided by Chinese government.

Nevertheless, some international students cannot help but feel abandoned when they see other classmates evacuated out of China. However, they have no bargaining power to request for any help from their countries as their countries are also afraid of offending China, who is often seen as a a “Giant” in the world. Who will help them if their countries decide to leave them behind for good?

US election analysis - China wants Biden to soften stance on China; Scholar: whoever is the president should not go soft

The relationship between China and the United States is at its worst in decades. It is widely believed that the Beijing government would prefer to see Democratic presidential candidate Biden defeat Trump in the White House, where conflicts over trade, technology and security are expected to ease. But many scholars believe that even if Biden were to take the stage, it is unlikely that he would go easy on Beijing because American politics across the spectrum are now disappointed with Beijing. No matter who ends up as president, his stance will not soften by much.

There is a long list of issues currently in dispute between China and the United States, including the COVID-19 epidemic, technology, trade, security, and spies; as well as matters involving Hong Kong, Taiwan, and human rights issues in Tibet and Xinjiang. Trump's trade war, which imposes punitive tariffs on Chinese goods, and his blocking of leading Chinese technology and Internet companies such as Huawei, TikTok, and WeChat, as well as his allies' efforts to blockade China, have put Beijing on a collision course. A Pew Research Center survey in March found that two-thirds of the U.S. public has a negative view of China, the highest since the survey began in 2005.

Hundreds of People Protested Against the Push for Chinese Vaccination in Brazil São Paulo

More than 300 people demonstrated in the central business district of São Paolo, the biggest city in Brazil, on Sunday local times (Nov 1), opposing the measures suggested by the state governor João Doria on the universal COVID-19 vaccination, as well as opposing the authorities on the use of vaccines from a Chinese company Sinovac Biotech.

Protest participants expressed support for President Jair Bolsonaro, who opposed the use of Chinese vaccines. Some even viewed João Doria as China’s ambassador, forcing them to take the Chinese vaccines.

Doria earlier stated that as long as the vaccines were available and sufficient, he planned to force the citizens of São Paolo to vaccinate. However, President Bolsonaro indicated earlier that vaccination was only voluntary. Reports stated that the local Supreme Court would make a verdict on the issue later.

U.S. agency criticizes Hong Kong air carrier quarantine rules

The U.S. government warned it could limit flights by Hong Kong-based carriers.

The U.S. Transportation Department (USDOT) issued an order on Mar 17 requiring Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific to file flight schedules for all U.S. flights within seven days to determine if any are “contrary to applicable law or adversely affect the public interest”.

It was to react to rules issued by Hong Kong in January requiring locally based air crews to quarantine when returning there from international locations, but exempted flights between Hong Kong and Anchorage, Alaska’s biggest city. USDOT said Hong Kong’s restrictions exclusively benefited Hong Kong carriers and “impaired the operating rights of U.S. carriers”.

UK and US criticise WHO's Covid report and accuse China of withholding data

The US and the UK have sharply criticised a World Health Organization report into the beginnings of the coronavirus pandemic in Wuhan, implicitly accusing China of “withholding access to complete, original data and samples”.

The statement, also signed by 12 other countries including Australia and Canada, came hard on the heels of an admission on Tuesday by the head of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, that the investigation was “not extensive enough” and experts had struggled to access raw information during their four-week visit to Wuhan in January.

City economists say China covering up mass unemployment despite rebound from Covid

China’s economy is facing a “hidden unemployment problem” as the inefficiencies of Beijing’s brand of state capitalism begin to mount, City analysts have warned.

The number of unemployed or underemployed workers in China has soared to 17pc, up from around 5pc in 2013, according to economists at Fathom Consulting.

The calculations are far above Beijing’s official jobless figures, which are distrusted by many economists, suggesting China has more unemployed and unproductive workers weighing on its economy.

China threatens to withhold vaccines, pressuring Ukraine to withdraw its support for Xinjiang investigation.

The Associated Press (AP) reports that Ukraine is pressured by China, which threaten to withhold COVID-19 vaccines from exported there, to withdraw from a statement by the UN Human Rights Council on sending independent observers to Xinjiang to investigate human rights issue. China welcomes the decision and said it reflects the spirit of independence.

Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations issued a statement at the UN Human Rights Council last Tuesday (22 June) on behalf of more than 40 countries, including Ukraine, urging China to allow immediate access for independent observers to Xinjiang. China warned that it would block at least 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines shipment to Ukraine unless it pulled out from the statement, according to the Associated Press. Ukraine withdrew from the statement on Thursday, and AP received written response from China saying that its “provision of vaccines and anti-epidemic materials to other countries is not meant to gain benefits from other countries and there isn’t any geopolitical purpose nor any political conditions attached.”

Hong Kong Police Targets Pro-democracy Restaurants under the #Pandemic

Several pro-democracy restaurants in Hong Kong have reportedly become the targets of police inspection as soon as the government rolled out mandatory contact-tracing app at the premises on December 9, 2021.

These pro-democracy "yellow" restaurant were ordered by the authorities to halt dinner dine-in services for two weeks after some customers allegedly failed to scan the #LeaveHomeSafe app.

On December 18, 2021, the police and the staff from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (#FEHD) inspected the Kwong Wing Catering branch in Mong Kok. They claimed that one male customer did not scan the, a defecto tracing app, as required by the government.

It was the third Kwong Wing Catering branch to be penalised within a week for similar alleged violations. The inspection was “suspicious,” the eatery wrote on Facebook, saying police arrived less than 20 minutes after the customer concerned sat down.

After reviewing the security footage, Kwong Wing Catering said the male customer came in with another person, who did scan the app. That person then put the device in the man’s backpack while he appeared to be searching for his phone. He eventually presented his companion’s phone to the restaurant staff.

Other affected pro-democracy restaurants included Kabo Burger, Dine Inn, Explorer Fusion Restaurant, Thai Cool, DK Pizza Cafe, WE TIME CAFE, Santgria Kitchen and more.

Canadian military officer calls for a probe into a ground zero 'Covid' outbreak at Wuhan forces games TWO MONTHS before world was alerted to the 'mysterious new illness'

A Canadian military officer who fears he was at the 'Ground Zero' of Covid two months before China officially acknowledged the virus has demanded an investigation into the suspicious outbreak of illness there.

The long-serving officer, who cannot be named as he is still in the forces, was among the scores of athletes who fell sick with a debilitating illness after attending the World Military Games in Wuhan in October 2019.

He said foreign competitors found the city of 11 million people 'like a ghost town', and so many cases of a mysterious virus afflicted the Canadian team that a quarantine section was set up on their military flight back home.

Hong Kong's #COVID Hospital Switches Computer to Chinese for Mainland Medics, but Needs Local Staff to Retype in English

The first batch of Chinese mainland medical staff arrived in Hong Kong in March 14, 2022, and are assigned to work at the temporary #AsiaWorldExpo isolation facility.

In preparation, the computer system for clinical management at the facility has been changed to display Chinese.

The President of Hong Kong Public Doctors' Association, #LingSiuChiTony, revealed in a radio interview that after discharging a patient from the makeshift hospital, Hong Kong medical staff have to retype the documents by mainland medics before submitting them to the #HospitalAuthority (#HA) network, as Hong Kong's medical records system is in English. He was also concerned about the diagnosis process; although most of the mainland staff were from Guangdong -- where Cantonese is spoken -- their medical as well as conversational language both have differences from those used by Hongkongers.

The mainland medical staff serving in the COVID hospital are exempt from registration. Although the HA claimed to take responsibility for them, if a medical incident were to occur, it would be difficult to hold them responsible.

"Since they (mainland staff) are not locally registered, we cannot hold a disciplinary hearing on them or revoke their license. By the time of the hearing, they may have left Hong Kong already."

On April 22, A 6-minute protest video about Shanghai's locked-down residents went viral on Chinese social media.

China allows home quarantine in big shift from zero-COVID

China on Wednesday announced a rollback of its zero-COVID policy in a marked shift away from virus curbs that triggered nationwide unrest, putting it on course to living with the respiratory illness.

People who are asymptomatic, or who have mild infections, will now be allowed to quarantine at home, rather than being forced into government facilities, while mass PCR testing, a key feature of government efforts to quash even small outbreaks, will be largely abandoned.
