Why are these state media artists disrespecting the CCP?

The image above, from Xi Jinping’s visit to CGTN in 2016, states the reality of PRC state media all too clearly: “the CCP is CGTN’s daddy.”

Five years later, how come so many PRC state media personalities on Twitter are going to such great lengths to hide their Chinese state affiliations? Is it because they oppose the CCP? Enquiring minds want to know.

Before I address this question, I need to present a brief interlude on terminology: I propose the term “state media artist” for people who work for PRC state media.

Fauci says it's 'negligent' not to fund research at Wuhan lab, suggests collaboration with China continue

Dr. Anthony Fauci suggested that it would’ve been “negligent” for the National Institutes of Health not to fund bat coronavirus research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and declined to commit not to collaborate with Chinese government scientists in the future, insisting that “we have always been careful.”

Last week, Sen. Rand Paul requested Attorney General Merrick Garland criminally investigate Fauci over his Senate testimony, during which he said the NIH never funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab, which the Kentucky Republican says is a lie. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, insists the NIH grants did not fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab.

No hope for pro-democracy films to be shown in Hong Kong: disappointing filmmaker claims

The Hong Kong government promulgated in June 2021 an amendment to the inspector's guideline of Film censorship regulations.

On the same day, the Office for Film, Newspaper and Article Administration (#OFNAA) declined approval for a short film, titled “Far From Home” which took anti-ELAB movement as background. The short film was intended to join the 15th Fresh Wave International Short Firm contest.

The film’s director Mok Kwan-ling told stand News on August 25, 2021 that in OFNAA’s response to her on August 17, the office requested as many as 14 counts of amendments. She described such request as excessive to the extent of going in contrary to the original intention of the film.

Without viable alternative,Mok decided to withdraw her film, saying that “it is not hopeful for it to be screened in Hong Kong”.

2200 | Prince Edward, Hong Kong

Today is the second anniversary of Prince Edward 831 attack, when civilians were brutally hit by Hong Kong Police at Prince Edward MTR station. Heavy presence of police was seen at the MTR station.

At around 10pm, police officers stationed at the scene began to intercept and search civilians near a local restaurant.

Moments later, they suddenly charged forward toward Mong Kok for no apparent reason. Soon after they forced reporters along the way to the Allied Plaza, police officers pulled back again, leaving reporters amidst busy traffic.

Definant Hongkongers refuse to forget police brutality in pro-democracy movement

2200 | Prince Edward, Hong Kong

Since China's imposition of National Security Law in Hong Kong in June 2020, the authorities have been cracking down opposing voices in the city and any efforts made for freedom and democracy.

Putting their freedom on the line, some Hongkongers continued to find subtle ways to defend their rights to express themselves in a bid for democracy.

On the day where Hongkongers usually gather to pay tribute to citizens and pro-democracy advocates who suffered police brutality on August 31, 2019, some hid white flowers in their bags, some laid brocade at the subway station, while another man was sighted carrying a handbill that read, "it is sad today, but I will carry on the fight."

#Hongkongers across #UK pay tribute to #PoliceBrutality victims in #AntiELAB movement

On August 31, 2021, many HongKongers around UK assembled in #remembrance of the #831PrinceEdwardAttack, one of the most widely remembered incidents of police brutality during the 2019 Anti-ELAB movement.

In #Cambridge, around 100 Hongkongers gathered at Parker’s Piece to pledge their continued support for the democratic movement in Hong Kong. At the end of the gathering, a young boy played the protest song “Glory to Hong Kong”, which resonated well with the crowd.

In #Edinburgh, a small street-side exhibition of protest art was on display. Organizers also set up a small Lennon wall, and many Hongkongers left notes to express their suppressed feelings.

The "Liberate Hong Kong; Revolution of our Times" protest flag also flew at gatherings in #Reading and #Bristol, where Hongkongers assembled to pray, and find support and solidarity in each other.
