Macau leader Ho Iat Seng’s tactics: 4 lessons for Carrie Lam

1. Apparently, Macau’s immigration control is less tight than Hong Kong’s as it doesn’t forbid the entering of Hubei people who can provide medical proof. Yet, on a practical level, the Macau government states that no doctor, at the present stage, can produce valid medical proof that confirms that a person “is not” a carrier of the Wuhan coronavirus. The result is the same, but Macau has clearly made a better gesture to the PRC.

2. The advantages of using this method are that it fits the aim to forbid the entering of Hubei people without losing all the flexibility, and it can also test the limits of Beijing. As long as Beijing doesn’t complain about it (right now, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government and the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office are dealing with their own problems, they will not be able to give clear direction other than empty statements like “do anything that will benefit the fighting of the disease”), Macau can use the same method in the future to restrict the entry of other Mainlanders. Whereas in Hong Kong, as our government publicly states that it needs to “take care of the feelings of Mainland China”, any further closing of borders will turn into a political problem, which puts the government in a bind.

3. By forcing the Hubei people out of Macau, not only can the Macau government keep the epidemic under control, it also sends a clear signal that all entries and exits are under its control. When this message is spread on Weibo, Mainlanders are shocked, for they realise that Macau doesn’t need to “care about the feelings of the Mainland”. As a result, it minimizes their desire to go to Macau, but at the same time, the Macau government doesn’t have to make it publicly known. Whereas in Hong Kong, our government welcomes Mainlanders to arrive and use the free medical service, saying repeatedly that we concern the feelings of the Mainland. Of course the target audience will understand the meaning behind.

4. Macau uses the police to “help” the Hubei people to leave. This approach not only shows that the government is “strong”, it also allows the police to play a positive role to gain internal support. It shows a great contrast to the image of Hong Kong police in the past 7 months, giving credit to the principle of “One Country, Two Systems”, and diffusing the charge of police brutality prevailed in Hong Kong. Beijing will be glad to see. Yet, the Hong Kong police have been flattered to become “the heroes that stop violence and chaos”, “People of the Year” on Weibo, if they suddenly have to act the role of “traitor” that expels Mainlanders, the show cannot go on. Macau grasps this opportunity quickly, and for sure does much better than Hong Kong.

“One Country, Two Systems” is a big gamble. Carrie Lam thought that handling the crises by power will be the solution. It turns out to be the very culprit of ruining “One Country, Two Systems”. Look at the extradition bill, look at the epidemic, she’s hopeless.

[#LatestAntiEpidemicLogic]

1. The #WHO expert team visited China, but China did not allow American experts to join the group. WHO accepted.

2. Then China finally allowed American experts to join the WHO expert team, but they were only allowed to visit Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu, not the hardest hit areas - Hubei Province and Wuhan. The Chinese reason: it was the critical period of the epidemic situation, reception capacity was limited. WHO accepted.

3. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom highly appreciated China's tremendous efforts to prevent and control the epidemic, and admired President Xi Jinping's outstanding leadership and firm political confidence, and emphasized that the visit of WHO experts to China was not because of Chinese insufficient capabilities, but to show the unity and cooperation of both parties.

Conclusion: WHO is already an indivisible part of China.

China uses an Italian doctor’s speech to propaganda

(25 Mar) A few days ago, Chinese official media, WeChat, and Hong Kong blue media propagated overwhelmingly, "Wuhan pneumonia originates from Italy." The only source is to quote a sentence from an Italian doctor Giuseppe Remuzzi interviewed by the American radio station, and then take it out of context. We explained it yesterday.

A fellow protestor sent an email to Dr Remuzzi to inquire about the truth. From the Italian expert's reply below, we could clearly know his original intention: Not only affirmed that Wuhan pneumonia originated in Wuhan, but he suspected that as early as the end of October, Wuhan pneumonia infection in Wuhan might has appeared, but the Chinese government didn’t announced it. During this period, a large number of Chinese people may have come to Italy from Wuhan, which caused some suspicious cases in Italy. Because all information from China was not transparent, the epidemic was out of control. The whole message is completely contrary to the Chinese official media's propaganda. This clearly showing what fake news is.

The National security law: the “Second handover” in the eyes of China, and the twenty steps

(20 May) I don’t agree with Beijing’s strategy. With that being said, we have to understand her logic and calculation, to find out the solutions. Actually, there is a loophole in every point on the Beijing’s plan. Let’s Brainstorm and find out what to do next.

The National security law: the “Second handover” in the eyes of China, and the twenty steps

Image

Many were surprised to see Beijing directly inserting a national law ‘The National Security Law’ into the appendix of the Basic Law, given there were already many signs before head. I have written articles warning that such could happen, but was ignored among the many many articles and public opinions. And we must stay calm, think so to strike back afterwards. Beijing didn’t make these move impulsively, but accomplishes them with detailed plans. So they don’t treat it as normal clash, but alleviate it to the level of ‘HK’s Second handover’. A real HKer, must therefore learn these moves, to understand ourselves and our enemy.

1. Beijing believes the pandemic has brought along a good timing to forcefully intrude into HK’s affair. and this is based on the assumption that the West has been affected by the pandemic more severely than herself, and requires more time for economy recovery. So the West will not truly want to decouple with China, and will greatly need Chinese capital and market. Be it on “Wolf diplomacy” (extremely aggressive diplomacy), full and all rounded deployment of soft power, or HK’s national security law, are illustrations of pragmatism and brinksmanship. Just like the reclamation and making of island on the South sea. No matter how the world condemned the act, the world didn’t take action, so the island was made there.

2. Beijing as the biggest winner of the last 20 years of globalisation, also becomes one of those on the same boat. Although she understands anti China is becoming a trend, the existing elites and their friends around the world will still be in power for 10 years or so. This group is easily drawn in, for they care about their personal interests. So even policies like ‘Sinophile making great money’ will emerge. Before the new and ideology-guided generations taking the office, this gap is the final opportunity for China to implement her strategy.

3. Beijing believes all the commerce associations only care about profit, and are only worried about themselves, who have connections with ‘foreign associations’, being extorted under the national security law. So Beijing only needs to win them over by procurement contracts and deals, the businessmen will deploy their influence to lobby within their countries. Examples include the businessmen who betrayed and sold HK away in the 90s.

4. Internationally, UK has the most right to express her opinion, but since Beijing is in the impression that the UK, having less influence than before, will not take action in fight between China and US, or take side to provide mandate to other countries, such as taking legal action against Chinese’s unilateral violation on the joint declaration. China has moved its enterprises away from US, and even suggested enterprises to go public in the UK, so to tackle each nation. Trump is hostile against his allies, and advocates unilateralism. So Beijing guessed that the West would not let US do everything as she wishes.

5. US’s response can be diverse. In addition, the election in Nov is coming soon, many class of politicians will play the anti China card, but as they only targets on votes, they might do something totally opposite. CCP, based on their understanding on humanity, thinks that US at most will sanction a few second class officials (such as Xinjiang CCP secretary Chen Qhuanguo) and CCP could just comfort the related parties with their power. But when it comes to rejecting HK’s status as separate custom territory, and more so financial wars, CCP believes the politicians will not act at the expense of their own.

DSE is not the only publicly recognized examination in the world.

(16 May)The IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) was created by #CambridgeUniversity as the international general secondary education accreditation for 14-16-year-olds worldwide. It is widely recognized by most universities and employers worldwide. The Nazi regime is highly discussed in IGCSE. How will universities and employers worldwide view DSE in the future?

The most disappointing thing is that there are fellow foreign graduates who follow the central theme and shout, "The British will never set (public examination) questions like this",...

"The Germans will never set questions like this", "The Americans will never set questions like this", and in fact, questions have been set in this way in the UK, Germany, and America, and I do not believe that they will do not know about it. The manners of man are revealed fully in the Cultural Revolution 2.0 in 2020.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39J-zgGp0Gk

Video’s Description:
Cultural Revolution 2.0 has arrived in Hong Kong, commencing with the accusation of Liberal Studies and Historical Education. The Opium War and the historical relationship between China and Japan suddenly become "sensitive issues", which would be criticized on the line for hurting national feelings.

This is the same approach as Cultural Revolution 1.0, when Yao Wen-yuan's new historical drama "Hai Rui Dismissed from Office" kicked off the scene, and "allusion to history" became the national technique of the Cultural Revolution's decade of havoc.

What is more ironic was that "Hai Rui Dismissed from Office" has initially been praised by Mao Ze-dong personally. Still, it suddenly became a "poisonous grass" because of political needs. Despite being the vice mayor of Beijing, the author, Wu Han, was criticized and punished to death.

Will the officials in charge of education in Hong Kong today worry that they are too aware of the issue nowadays? Once the education in Hong Kong becomes like this and independent thinking is no longer allowed, what will happen to the next generation?

Appointing Judges in a Police State

[ #LivingUnderaRock ] Nazi Germany was a notorious police state. After Hitler came to power, the parliament under his control passed a law that enabled him to appoint civil servants and judges as the Führer. The "old Germans" who believed in the Weimar Republic's democratic system and the separation of powers were mocked for living under a rock. In 1942, Hitler appointed the senior Nazi party member, Otto Thierack, as the Reich Minister of Justice. Thierack then took further steps to overhaul the judges. He issued a series of "Letters to All Judges"* to instruct them on how to "lawfully" persecute the Jews and other minorities, much to Hitler's satisfaction.

The true Hongkonger - Jeffrey Andrews

Jeffrey Andrews, despite his defeat in the 2020 Hong Kong pro-democracy primaries, earns HongKongers' respect with his courage. As an ethnic minority, he uses Cantonese in his campaign, and withstands pressures from all those minority businessmen who are mostly pro-government.

Hong Kong, claimed to be an international city, still has a long way to go in racial harmony.

#Opinion: Tong Ying-Kit Case Puts "Liberate Hong Kong" Slogan on Trial, with a Predetermined Verdict

[Editor's note:
24-year-old Tong Ying-kit is the first person to be charged under the National Security Law in Hong Kong, for displaying a flag with the words "Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of Our Times" on his motorbike and driving towards police officers. The trial is now underway.

The following is an opinion article published by #SimonShen, a public intellectual specialized in international relations, on July 7, 2021.]

"On the surface, this is a case against the man #TongYingKit.

To the Hong Kong authorities, however, this case will effectively set the legal characterization for the slogan "Liberate Hong Kong, the Revolution of Our Times".

This is exactly why the Department of Justice insisted not to allow a trial by jury. Instead, they turned it into a trial by "designated National Security judges", giving them the power to determine the definition of the slogan.

With such an arrangement, the outcome is a foregone conclusion to nearly every observer. No matter what kind of outrageous scenes would happen during the proceedings, when all is said and done, the slogan would become a legally banned phrase, having been deemed unlawful by the 'British-designed judiciary system'.

After all, what would be the alternative? If the courts determined that "Liberate Hong Kong, the Revolution of Our Times" is not equivalent to "Hong Kong independence", then wouldn't it defeat the purpose of establishing the HKSAR National Security Law?

Thus, the authorities had first determined the desired verdict, then began rummaging through the records to dig up evidence that match their narrative.

This process is the exact opposite of the logical reasoning that the world is accustomed to; unfortunately, this is the norm in China. And this is has now become our times."

Politics Comic Writer Justin Wong Reveals the Main Reason of Emigration

Former Assistant Lecturer at the Academy of Visual Arts at the Hong Kong Baptist University (#HKBU), as well as a politic comic writer, Justin Wong Chiu Tat, was namely criticised by the Hong Kong Police that his comic on #MingPao in Sep 2021 defamed Junior Police Call. He then apologised for the comic and moved to the UK in the end of that year.

He revealed in #SimonShen interview that his critical point to emigrate was regarding one of his research projects on the protests’ posters, happening after the comic incident. At the time, the seniors in the institution proactively reported it to the National Security Officers, possibly due to the slogans “Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of Our Times” is shown on the poster.

However, HKBU denied reporting him to the officers and stated that they have been protecting the #AcademyFreedom, providing a suitable environment for their students and staff for research, education and learning. They added, the institution should be responsible to ensure on-campus events are complying to the law. With regards to this incident, HKBU mentioned, “the institution did not submit the case to the authority to follow-up.
