Love In War

In these times of affliction,
Our love seeks only to protect our next generation.

We promised we won't let each other be maimed down in bloodshed, knocked out in trauma, locked up in prison.

Yet, everything came too sudden.

We can't stand in the flow of history,
Nor can we hasten the advent of romance.

We can't know when next we can embrace each other,
Nor can we determine when we'll say our last farewells.

So let us wipe our tears and behold,

For if there's one promise we make,
love, it shall be.

One year of 831 terror attack

That one night
That one MTR exit

Would anyone tell me
that nothing happened there

Tell me
that the cops who attacked passengers
were only actors in an amateur film

Tell me
that the blood they spilled
were only cheap stage props

However large the crowds, can they endure violence?
However many the flowers, can they avoid destruction?
If it were all for selfish gains,
would people keep returning
no matter the season or weather?

It's been a year.
Is it nothing to you?

The Desperation of Small Business Owner in Lockdown Area: The Government Never Helps

Mr. Lo who runs a restaurant at Shanghai Street is a resident in the lockdown area.

He told the media his desperation and frustration during the Hong Kong government's compulsory lockdown of the Jordan district which was announced at the last-minute at 4am on Jan 23, 2021.

Mr Lo said the food in his restaurant had all gone wasted. With the sudden announcement of the lockdown, he had no time to carry out contigency plan for his restaurant. Not only did his business come to a stop during the lockdown, but he also could not know when he can restart his business after the disruption.

Mr Lo said he is not the only one. He was disappointed that the government never aids small business in practical ways.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam claimed on Jan 23 that the operation caused no obstruction to civilians.

#DistrictCouncillor Demands the Government to Take Real Actions to Aid Civilians Disturbed by Lockdowns

Ho Cheuk-Hin Isaac, a directly elected district councillor in Yau Tsim Mong District, spoke to the media near the lockdown area in Tsim Sha Tsui on Feb 1, 2021.

He expressed that although the government expected the lockdown operation to be finished at 7am, in reality not all residents attended a nine-to-five work schedule, especially those who do not work at the office.

Hoi criticized that the government's verbal "encouragement" to employers to "better understand the employees" affected by the lockdowns was way too superficial and lacks actual effects.

Two Years into Hongkongers' #FightForFreedom: "Keep the Faith, Until Darkness Gives Away to the Glorious Dawn and Freedom Returns to Our Land"

June 16, 2021 marks #2years since over 2 million Hongkongers--nearly 1/3 of the city's population--took it to the street to protest against extradition to China and voice the "5 demands".

This largest rally in the history of Hong Kong represents Hongkongers' determination to defend their rights and freedom.

Two years onward, Hongkongers tell the world that the fight for democracy goes on, despite political prosecution, censorship and the implementation of draconian laws.

"Keep the Faith.

Until Darkness Gives Away to the Glorious Dawn

and Freedom Returns to Our Land"

"Glory HK": #Hongkongers Raise Glowing Signs amid Storm Clouds on Lion Rock

In Hong Kong, a group of pro-democracy citizens braved the heavy rain and hiked to the top of the #LionRock on the evening of June 9, 2022.

On the mountain, they displayed the light signs that spelled "Glory HK", to commemorate the third anniversary of the 2019 June 9 #AntiExtradition protest march.

When the group reached the summit, however, the hill was shrouded by dense clouds and heavy rain, with a thunderstorm warning from the weather observatory. After discussing their options, the group decided to carry through and set up the sign while they waited for the clouds to clear. Their patience was rewarded after waiting for over an hour; the clouds cleared for a brief moment, and Hong Kong's city lights come into view behind their glowing sign.

Speaking to a reporter, the organizer likened the weather atop the mountain to the outlook for Hong Kong's future: full of dark clouds, but there will be light for those who hold on to the end.

"The oppression keeps Hongkongers from speaking our minds, and even rational debates on the Internet risk violating the authority's red line; however, the beliefs of Hongkongers 3 years ago surely remain engraved in our hearts, and they will never change," said one of the participants.
