Blossom Everywhere: Organiser of June 4 Vigil Calls on Citizens to Carry-on โCandle-litโ Tradition
Locking down a venue cannot lock down the hearts of Hong Kong citizens. Under the pretext of โSocial distance and gathering banโ, HK Government banned, for the first-time in 31 years, the Victoria Park 64 vigil held annually in remembrance of the victims of Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989.
The Hong Kong Alliance, in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China called on the public to uphold the โcandle-litโ tradition, letting the flame of remembrance blossom everywhere in Hong Kong so that the next generation will carry on seeking vindication of the movement.
The Hong Kong Catholic Community Federation of Support for the Patriotic and Democratic Movement of China (HKPF) also decided for the first time to hold a Mass in 7 churches in Hong Kong to pay tribute to the victims of June 4 Massacre and to pray for the people fighting for democracy.
Asked whether members would be afraid to attend the Mass, concerning introduction of the National Security Law, Chan Lok-shun recognised that some might be worried about political repression, but he also believes that many would hold on to the values they believe. Chan emphasised that the Church always pray for political stability, world peace and human rights, and he hoped to carry out โas much as they can.โ

Despite the ban, netizens called on the public to uphold the "candle-lit" tradition with those detained in Lai Chi Kok Detention Centre today.
Koo Sze Yiu, a social activist and friend of โLong Hairโ Leung Kwok Hung, could be seen commemorating the massacre near the detention centre.

Every road shut, every tear counted, every flower tracked, every memory erased, every tombstone effaced.
โ Liu Xiaobo "June Fourth, a Tomb"
Editor's Note: Liu Xiaobo (1955 - 2017) was a Chinese writer and human rights activist who was involved in campaigns to end the communist one-party-rule in China. At the time of the 1989 Tiananmen Protests, Liu Xiaobo, who was in the US at the time, flew back to China to partake in the protests. He was called the "four junzis of Tiananmen Square" and saved hundreds of lives during the massacre by persuading the students to leave the square.
This poem in particular describes how memories of that fateful night was erased from the minds of the Chinese people, how even the smallest memory of it would be hunted down and eradicated.
Is this not Hong Kong today? Every road filled with barriers to block its civilians from coming and going; every tear meticulously recorded as the police, who have fallen into disgrace, beat and humiliate their kinsmen; every flower commemorating those who have departed taken away, as those who were to put down their flower in remembrance thought twice to weigh their options before laying down their flower as though it was an act of treason.
The tombstones at Sandy Ridge Cemetery remain nameless still. Would the same regime who had rolled their tanks on their bright youths crush the memories and the will of this Pearl of the Orient with the National Security Law?
