Help from Vietnamese - Karma between Hong Kong and Vietnamese

(21 Feb) During my trip at Poland, I was impressed at a meeting with some Hong Kong students who were studying at Poland. It was found a local powerful and sizable Vietnam syndicates fully supported the protest of Anti-extradition Bill held by Hongkongers at Poland, the local PRC students thus dared not to create disturbance. Such support was because the Vietnamese would like to thank Hong Kong for receiving Vietnamese refugees and eligible Vietnamese migrants years ago. Learning international relationship is so practicable!

Belarus Bans 50 News Websites, Lukashenko Inspects Border and Accuses NATO of Splitting up the Country

As anti-government protests in Belarus continue, more than 50 news media websites have been blocked by the local authority. On the other hand, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, donning military fatigues, inspected Grodno, a town near Belarus's borders with Poland, and accused the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) of attempts to split up Belarus. NATO refuted his claim and said that it served only to divert the people’s attention from their discontent. US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun will visit Lithuania and Russia shortly to discuss issues related to Belarus.

Lukashenko claimed that NATO attempted to split up Belarus and replace him with a new president. He also said that as Poland and Lithuania were ready to take action, he had to deploy troops to the western border and order his defence minister to take "the most stringent measures to protect the territorial integrity of the country.”

NATO denied the allegations, stating that "NATO poses no threat to Belarus or any other country and has no military buildup in the region" and that "Our posture is strictly defensive". It accused Lukashenko's government of employing a fictitious narrative of foreign threat to shift the public's attention away from its discontent towards the government and the election.

Polish Consulate General in HK Commemorates Fallen Soldiers of "Black Christmas" in the 1941 Battle of Hong Kong

79 years ago, Hong Kong under British Adminstration surrendered to the invading Japanese Army on Christmas Day, 1941, after weeks of fierce battles across the British colony.

The day has since been known as "Black Christmas" in Hong Kong history.

This year, Consul General Aleksander Dańda and Vice-Consul Dominik Jakuszko of the Polish Consulate General in Hong Kong paid a visit to the Stanley Military Cemetery and Sai Wan War Cemetery, to commemorate the Polish soldiers who gave their lives to defend Hong Kong.

In a Facebook post, the Consulate General described Polish volunteers fighting alongside the HK Volunteer Defense Corps during the Battle of Hong Kong. The defending troops consisted of soldiers from Britain, India, Canada, ethnic Chinese and Hong Kong locals, as well as Portugal and a number of Eurasian countries.

The Stanley Military Cemetery is one of the oldest military cemeteries in Hong Kong, dating back to the early days of its colonial history in the 19th century, and served as burial grounds of British troops and their families.

The Sai Wan War Cemetery was established for British Commonwealth troops, commercial ship crews, as well as soldiers and civilians who died in battle or as prisoners of war.
