"He could only blink his eyes, but cannot speak" - Councilor Chiu tearfully recounts police slamming his assistant headfirst into the ground

Councilor Andrew Chiu spoke to the press after the events at Taikoo Shing earlier.

As police arrived in Chiu spoke to the district commander, who said they came to investigate a report of an anti-gathering violation. At that time, Chiu already made a solemn request to the commander to not let the frontline officers to get out of control or aggravate the residents.

As the police aggressively pushed into the mall and residential area, Chiu noted that many reporters and civilians had no time to leave, many were arrested, though ultimately all have only been searched and released.

At riot police arrived at Taikoo Phase 4, they began to try to agitate Chiu's assistant with aggressive language, looking for an excuse to arrest him. Chiu immediately held onto his assistant and tried to leave the scene, he was wrestled away by multiple officers and, as Chiu watched, slammed him headfirst into the ground.

The attending first-aiders reported that he could only blink his eyes, but could not speak. In tears, Chiu apologized profusely to his assistant's parents that he was unable to hold onto him and keep him safe from the police.

Chiu noted the area of police investigation should have been in Cityplaza, and not the adjacent Taikoo Shing residential estate, where the altercation took place. The officers he spoke to was also unable to tell him under which law they conducted this clearance operation. He strongly condemned the police presence there, and demanded the police to leave Taikoo Shing as soon as possible.

Police Look In Vain For Civilians to Hand Out Gathering Ban Tickets

A police officer was holding a pile of 'gathering ban' tickets when yelling "where do you have four? Where do you have four?".

However, no civilians were gathering around him.

[Editor's note: According to the gathering ban in Hong Kong, any 'gathering' with more than 4 persons could be fined for HKD2,000. However, the police's selective enforcement of the anti-epidemic measures has stirred up a lot of controversies.]

Beijing Loyalist criticizes Hong Kong students for being disrespectful and urges for 'moral education'

MTR Corporation chairman and former Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Frederick Ma was again appointed to be the chairman of the governing council of the Education University of Hong Kong again. Due to personal reasons, his term will end on 31 Dec 2020.

In his interview with Commercial Radio Hong Kong, Ma criticized that some teachers used liberal studies as a tool to express their discontent, which reflected the problem of this subjet. He hoped that the government can develop moral education because one "cannot be perfect with only wisdom but no integrity". "If you were a top student without any moral standard, how can you contribute to the society?", said Ma.

In a Facebook post on April 26, 2021, CHRF convenor Figo Chan said they received aletter sent from the police. The police claimed that the group had been "de-registered" under the Societies Ordinance in 2006, two months after its application was approved. Pro-democracy political cartoonist announces departure from Hong Kong citing ‘great mental stress’

The comic artist, #AhTo, who has drawn satirical cartoons about local politics for 11 years, made the announcement on social media.

He shared a drawing of one of his iconic characters standing in front of what appeared to be the London cityscape and said he left because he “wanted to continue creating for HK.”

"Staying in HK to produce political cartoon [causes] great mental stress. [I] have no alternative but to leave,” the artist wrote on Facebook, without stating his destination.

Ah To said he had considered giving up on political cartoons in 2017 when HK’s social movement was “at low tide.” He also thought about changing the theme of his work last year.

But he deemed that HK “needed political cartoons,” and said he wanted to “persist” by remotely creating cartoons for his home city.
