After the mysterious death of the 15-year-old Chan Yin-lam last October, there have been sayings that the CCTV foootages shown to the public were re-enacted by an actress who looked like Chan.

Just as TVB, a pro-Beijing channel, had an exclusive interview with Chan's mother who insisted her daughter had killed herself when naked, her distant speech also caused audience to doubt if she is the real mother.

Summon the dead to identify protester's mother

(27 Jun) At the end of September last year, a naked corpse of a 15-year old female were awkwardly floating in the ocean. The Hong Kong police declared no foul play suspected and the body was cremated and left no remnants to investigate. The Hong Kong Coroner's Court recently did a pre-inquest review on the case.

The deceased was Chan Yin-lam, a competitive swimmer. Whether it was a "suicide" or if she "was suicided" remains an issue rife with suspicions and doubts. Someone's daughter had gone missing. Tsz-ming, one of the people in her search team, learned that the news of her death came out during the hustle and bustle. Overnight, he lost contact with both Chan's mother and her maternal uncle. The two family members vanished without a trace...

Chan had participated in anti-extradition law amendment bill (anti-ELAB) activities many times. A lovely young girl was inexplicably reduced to ash. Afterwards, many young people from the protests disappeared, some suspect they were extradited to mainland China, killed or suicided. They became trapeze artists (that shed no blood when landing) and floating corpses in the ocean. The atrocities of public security and evil cops were covered up and indulged, so will they simply remain unpunished? To appease the mob, TVB news director set out to interview Chan's mother; her blurred out face could not have been any faker. Later, some scoundrel of [Confucian] propriety, righteousness, integrity and politics* wrote an open letter "on behalf of" Chan's mother. It came with no photo, no signature and no authorisation; no one in Hong Kong believed it. For the entirety of the court date, police officers surrounded and escorted her... Netizens examined old photos of Chan's mother, suspected photos of the deceased and the more recent images from her [mother's] court appearance. They made comparisons of her [Chan's] brow ridges, the birthmark on her neck, the part in her hair and the puffiness in her eyes. This "grand charade" could not end even if it wanted to. So this place does not have 300 taels?+ Who knows what is true or false? Display ID? Compare names? DNA testing? Which department is trustworthy?

This is why the best way to seek redress is by summoning the dead in a public trial just like the Hello Kitty murder case++ when the courtroom's halogen lights kept flashing and the victim's half-cooked head aired her own grievances. Only if [Chan's] departed soul cries out "Mom!" in the courtroom will we believe it.

Police Allegedly Let White-Clad Gang Insult Pro-dem Lawmakers

Two pro-democracy lawmakers Lam Cheuk-ting and Ted Hui Chi-fung, who were arrested by the police for involving in the pro-democracy protests, were mentioned in the West Kowloon Magistrates on the afternoon of August 27, 2020.

Police turned Lam, a victim of the white-clad gangster attack on July 21, July, from plaintiff to defendant.

Outside of the court, a gang of white-clad people were present. One of them held up his middle finger to interrupt and insult the colleages of Lam and Hui from the Democratic Party who were speaking at the time.

Among the white-clad crowd, some of them had the Chinese flag on their clothes. The white-clad stood right behind the plainclothes and uniformed police. After they kept yelling, the police persuaded them to leave.

In contrast, on August 25, 2020, police arrested 2 citizens for "causing disorder" outside of the West Kowloon Magistrates. The 17-year-old student and the 65-year-old woman arrested were detained by the police overnight. The police also put at least 7 people on the wanted list, accusing them of swearing and gesturing profanity outside of the same court on the previous day.

Since August 24, the West Kowloon Magistrates has been conducting a coroner's inquiry of the death of 15-year-old Chan Yin-lam, who had participated in the pro-democracy protests and was found dead naked in the waters in October 2019. The public cast doubt and concern over the case which the police called it a "suicide" that was "not suspicious". Further skepticism was raised, after the pro-Beijing TV channel TVB broadcast an 'exclusive' interview during primetime with a woman with her face and voice blurred who claimed to be Chan's mother.

In the court, Chan's mother and materal grandfather insisted that Chan was psychologically disturbed. A medical doctor testified that Chan's mother had refused treatment for Chan.

Coroner's Inquiry of 15-year-old Girl Found in Waters: Police Assists Mother to Leave through the Special Passageway

The coroner pointed out that when Chan Yin-lam’s mother Ho Pui-yee and grandfather Ho Yun-loi left the court on 24 Aug,2020 they were insulted by the public. There were physical contacts and their car was followed. They at last went home with the protection of the police.

She pointed out that Ho Pui-yee felt insecure after the incident, and applied for the access to a special passageway in and out the court. The application was approved. A lot of police officers stood by near West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts to wait for Ho.

Jury Unanimously Rules Death of 15-year-old Pro-democracy Girl as "Suspicious"; Cause of Death Remains Unknown

The 11-day coroner's inquiry of 15-year-old Chan Yin-lam ended on Sept 11, 2020 in Hong Kong. Chan's naked body was found in the waters in September 2019. Since the police could not justify their change of the case's classification from "suspicious" to "unsuspicious", the public have cast doubt over the police handling of the case and speculated the cause of Chan's death.

On the last day of the death inquest, the presiding coroner David Ko instructed the jury to rule Chan's death over 2 directions: an "accident" or "open verdict". Ko has earlier ruled out “unlawful killing” and “suicide” as the possible cause of death.

After five hours of deliberation, the jury reached for a unanimous open verdict. Many questions remained unsolved. These include whether Chan had taken a taxi to the waterfront, and whether Chan had schizophrenic symptoms on Sept 19, 2020, the day she went missing. The jury believed that Chan had no clothes on when entering the waters.

Chan's mother Ho Pui-yee had given up the right to present on behalf of her daughter, stating to a TVB reporter that she only hoped for the incident to subside, that she would not comment on the issue regardless of the verdict.

Conspiracy theories rage after teen's naked body found floating in ocean

On the morning of September 22, 2019, a naked body was found floating in the sea. The deceased was identified to be Chan Yin-lam, a 15-year-old who was very vocal and supportive towards the protests that were going on in Hong Kong. Autopsy revealed that she had been dead for more than 48 hours.

The discovery sparked a maelstrom of media coverage and conspiracy theories. While police swiftly classified the case as a suicide, some in the protest movement claimed there were signs of foul play -- and even accused authorities of being involved in a cover-up.

In the almost 12 months since she died, the controversy has not waned. Many Hong Kongers are still inclined to the belief that the truths related to Chan's death are being hidden from them.

On 22 September 2019, the 15-year-old pro-democracy protester, #ChanYinLam was found naked floating in the sea near Yau Tong, where her school is located. The Hong Kong Police claimed that nothing is suspicious.

While many believed that Chan’s death could be connected to her participation in the pro-democracy Anti-ELAB Movement, the police asserted that no foul play was suspected, and that Chan had killed herself.

The coroner's inquest concluded with the jury unanimously returning an open verdict, as the cause of death could not be determined, after Magistrate Ko Wai-hung ruled out both homicide and suicide as possible causes due to insufficient evidence.

For 14 months, civilians carried on their monthly ritual in remembrance of Chan.

On Nov 22, 2020, the police not only removed the altar built by civilians; but also erected a warning banner ordering citizens paying their tribute to all casaultes in pro-democracy movement to leave.

Heavy police presence since the afternoon created an awkwardly oppressive atmosphere at the scene, forcing pro-democracy supporters to leave without laying down the flowers they brought.

In the late evening, social worker Hendick Lui Chi-hang and a woman were being stopped by the police and searched when they attempted to walk closer.
