🇷🇺🇺🇦🎞 Chronicle of the Ukrainian offensive at Balakliya
September 6-7, 2022

On September 6, after a massive artillery barrage, Ukrainian units launched an offensive from the direction of Andriivka against the positions of the Russian Armed Forces in Balakliya. Until about a week ago, it became known that the AFU had been forming a striking force in the Izyum direction, accumulating reserves of personnel and equipment.

Ukrainian units managed to develop success and advance in a number of directions, not leaving attempts to encircle Balakliya, but the Allied Forces' reserves came up and stopped the advance in some areas. The operational goal of the AFU is to reach the Kharkiv-Izyum highway near Vesele and Kun’je in order to encircle the Russian grouping in Izyum.

🔻AFU continue their offensive in Kharkiv Region for the third day. Their immediate goals are to occupy Kupyansk, the de facto capital of the liberated territories, and to blockade Izyum.

▪️By evening, the fall of Balakliya was confirmed. The approaching units of Russian Armed Forces managed to secure a safe corridor for withdrawal of Rosguardia (National Guard) units, which had held the town for two days.
It appears that Russian Command decided to withdraw from the town and to preserve lives of the units.

▪️Having captured Volokhiv Yar, north of Balakliya, AFU partially blocked Shevchenkove and continued to advance on Kupyansk.
AFU's mobile tactical groups advanced across the fields towards Oskil River, occupying the villages of Bezmyatezhne and Spodobivka.

After that, the enemy forces were divided. Some units went to Kupyansk-Shevchenkove Road, occupying the village of Hrushivka.

▪️Another group of Ukrainian troops aimed eastward, fighting for Sen'kove on the right bank of Oskil River.

▪️At the same time, the zone of control around Balakliya expanded. AFU were trying to advance towards Vesele and Kun'je, but the enemy's advance slowed down near Zalyman.

If AFU manages to take the junction at Vesele, it will cut off a key transport artery leading to Izyum from the north.

▪️Part of AFU grouping is engaged to divert the attention of Russian Armed Forces from the main breakthrough directions. A local offensive began near Kopanky, southwest of Izyum.

🔻Russian Armed Forces continue redeploying reinforcements in the breakthrough directions. So far, Balakliya has been lost among large settlements. But for now, AFU continue to advance exploiting weak spots in the defence of Russian forces.

▪️On the fifth day of the offensive in the Kharkiv region, the AFU opened another front. After forcing the Siversky Donets near Raihorodok, the AFU attempted to take Krasnyi Lyman and Yampil’ by storm.

Russian units repulsed an attack on the outskirts of Krasniy Lyman and stopped the enemy at the line of Staryi Karavan — Brusivka — Dibrova.

▪️The Russian Armed Forces command decided to spare the lives of the personnel of the Izyum grouping of Russian troops. By mid-day, the bulk of the Russian troops left the Izyum staging point and withdrew behind the Oskil River.

▪️ North of Kupyansk, the Russian Armed Forces failed to stabilize the front. The AFU continued to advance from both Kupyansk and the Pechenizs'ke Reservoir. By mid-day, Velykyi Burluk was taken.

▪️The Russian Armed Forces command made a similar decision to withdraw the troops holding the defenses in Kupyansk itself and to the north of it. Russian units gradually withdrew to Vovchansk, ensuring the evacuation of refugees.

🔻The intent of the Russian Armed Forces command is to attempt to organize a stable line of defense along the Oskil-Siversky Donets River. At the same time, units withdrawn from Balakliya, Kupyansk and Izyum are regrouped and reserves are brought in.

▪️ The pro-Russian population is fleeing to Russian territory, both from Kharkiv Region and the LPR northern regions. Filtration detachments enter settlements occupied by the AFU. Their goal is to eliminate pro-Russian activists and accustom people of being afraid to support Russia under pain of death. Dark times have come to the lost territories of the Kharkiv region.

The Russian units almost completed their withdrawal from the territory of the Kharkiv Region.

▪️The AFU entered Liptsy, Kozacha Lopan', Velykyi Burluk and Hoptivka. Other settlements in the region west of the Oskil River have already been abandoned by Russian units. Near the state border in the Belgorod Region, the Allied Forces units are entrenching and building engineering facilities.

▪️Refugees are fleeing to the Belgorod Region. In the occupied villages, Ukrainian filtration detachments are spreading terror against residents who are suspected of collaborating with Russia. Murders have already been registered in Balakliya and Izyum.

Separate Russian units stayed until the last moment in the vicinity of Izyum, covering the exit of citizens to the territory controlled by the Russian Armed Forces.

▪️For the second day, the enemy continues attempting to storm Krasnyi Lyman, where Russian units are holding defence being supported by artillery. Fighting is taking place on the outskirts of the town which continues to be under the Russian Armed Forces control.

▪️The AFU breached the Siverskyi Donets River near Zakitne and transported several pieces of equipment to attack Krasnyi Lyman from the eastern direction.

In the nearest future, the AFU will continue attempting to take Krasnyi Lyman in order to create a staging point on the left bank of the Oskil River and develop an offensive towards Kreminna.

▪️In the evening, the Russian Armed Forces struck Ukrainian energy facilities with cruise missiles. Some of them hit Kharkivsʹka Tets-5, one of the largest heat power plants in the country. A large fire broke out on the site: the city of Kharkiv, the Kharkiv Region, and neighbouring regions were cut off power.

In Kharkiv Region, engineering and sapper units of the AFU are installing guided mines in settlements bordering Russia.

The command of the AFU believes that the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces on Kharkov is postponed. Therefore, the 124th, 129th and 209th battalions of the 113th obr of territorial defense, operating north of Kharkov and in Bakhmut, are being transferred to Konotop to strengthen the grouping in Sumy Region.

▪️In Alexandrovka and Korotych, from February 27 to March 8, the command staff of the 3rd tank AFU Brigade are being assembled, and in Vovchansk, mobilization continues for additional units.

In Sumy Region, the AFU are still expecting a Russian offensive. Controlled mines have been installed in the area of the settlements of Porozok, Slavgorod and Mezenovka, bridges are prepared for demolition.

▪️At the ranges in Akhtyrka, Popovka and Tarasovka, the 57 howitzer Division 45 of the Strategic Reserve of the AFU is undergoing combat coordination. Now the gunners are training advanced gunners with copters transmitting video images using Starlink terminals.

▪️In the border areas in Seredina-Buda, Kucherovka, Pavlovka and Druzhba, five sabotage groups of the special operations forces of Ukraine are operating, tracking the movements of Russian troops.

In the Kyiv region, the formation of the 5th separate assault brigade on the basis of the 5th assault regiment of the Special Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, whose commander was appointed Colonel Alexander Yakovenko, has been completed.

Two battalions of the formed brigade are expected to arrive at the 233rd training ground in Malaya Lyubasha in the Rivne region. Now the mobilized are undergoing medical examination in Khmelnitsky.

On the morning of the fourth day of the Russian army's offensive in the north of the Kharkiv Region, no large-scale breakthroughs of the enemy's defenses have been recorded. After clearing the "gray" border zone, Russian assault units focused on breaking through the AFU strongholds and defensive lines, as well as pushing out the reserves.

▪️By the evening of May 12, the Russian army took the meat processing plant in the north of Volchansk and was clearing the shoe factory: these are the two main buildings on the northern outskirts of the city, from where the AFU controlled the approaches. The forest belts and fields from the north have been completely cleared and passed under the control of the Russian troops.

The "fog of war" covers the areas to the east of the city: an offensive is underway from the direction of Tikhiy, but the scale of the advance is still unclear.

But judging by the strikes of the Ukrainian artillery deployed in Rubizhne and Pechenegy, Russian groups managed to advance towards the center of the city. However, there is no surrender of Volchansk: units of the 57th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the AFU arrived on the southern outskirts of Volchansk and in the Belyi Kolodez located 12 km southeast.

▪️At the same time, the AFU are trying to solve the logistics problem and establish supply through the Siversky Donets River: attempts are being made to build a pontoon crossing in the vicinity of Stary Saltiv.

▪️In the Hlyboke - Oleinikovo - northern outskirts of the village of Lukiiantsi - Zelene area, no changes have occurred: the Russian troops are still pushing out the approaching reserves. Assault units from the Poltava Region are arriving in the Kharkiv Region, which should strengthen the defensive capabilities of the AFU in this area.

▪️Fighting continues along the line Izbytske - Starytsia - Buhrovatka, but we cannot yet confirm the capture of settlements.

🔻A scandal is erupting in the Ukrainian media space due to territorial losses: the head of the GUR, Kyrylo Budanov, blamed the commander-in-chief of the AFU, Oleksandr Syrskyi. The public spat is intended to divert attention from problems at the front and "entertain" the population, while the Ukrainian command is frantically trying to solve the problem of the crumbling northern front.

Russian forces continue a local offensive in the north of Kharkiv Region amid regular counterattacks by the AFU. Clashes are ongoing along the entire line of contact from Lipetsk to Volchansk.

▪️On the western flank, the Russian Armed Forces are trying to breach the defenses on the northern outskirts of Lipetsk. They have not yet been able to capture the dominant height northeast of the village and the network of strongpoints on the way out of the settlement.

🔻The enemy retains the ability to move relatively calmly through the settlement, transferring reinforcements, which allows them to hold back the onslaught of Russian assault groups.

▪️On the Lukiiantsi - Hlyboke line, the Russian Armed Forces have occupied the forest between the settlements. The strongpoints located in the forest belts to the south remain under enemy control.

▪️On the eastern flank, in the area of Starytsia and Buhrovatka, positional battles are ongoing, and reports of the Russian Armed Forces advancing towards Synelnykove are premature at this time.

▪️In Volchansk, Russian assault groups have pushed the enemy out of the territory of the Volchansk Aggregates Plant, where fighting has been going on for the past week. They also managed to straighten out the line of control along Gagarin and Pushkin streets.

The enemy has published footage showing the presence of the Russian Armed Forces near the destroyed bridge on Privokzalna Street, leading to the southern bank. Currently, about 40% of the city is under the control of Russian forces.

The southern part of the city still has a presence of the enemy, both from the local Territorial Defense and more combat-capable units from the GUR and SSO of the so-called Ukraine.

Against the backdrop of the Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk Region, the situation also remains tense in the Slobozhansky Direction. While in the area of Volchansk, Starytsia and Hlyboke in the Kharkiv Region, heavy positional battles continue, in the Belgorod border area, the enemy decided to make a new media sortie.

🔻In the morning hours, the AFU struck a series of blows on the Hraivornon City District, including the village of Poroz, located 2.5 kilometers from the Russian-Ukrainian border. While the village was under artillery preparation, an enemy group moved towards it.

▪️In Poroz, Ukrainian saboteurs quickly recorded a video near the building of the local village club and hastily retreated, capturing two local residents in the process. Later, these frames were posted by Ukrainian resources, and the village itself was closed for entry.

▪️According to some reports, the AFU members also carried out another PR sortie a little southeast, filming a similar video in the village of Mokra Orlivka. However, the recording was not published: apparently, either the sortie was not as successful, or the enemy decided to post it later.

🔻Meanwhile, in the north of the Kharkiv Region, fierce battles have been raging for the fourth month in a row:

▪️In the area of Hlyboke, the situation remains quite tense: although the enemy has long since not carried out counterattacks, he actively uses drones to strike at evacuation groups and supply lines of the Russian Armed Forces leading to the village.

▪️In the area of Starytsia, the configuration of the front in the Kohutovo Tract was once again clarified. Given the constant shelling of Ukrainian positions in this area, it is obvious that the Russian Armed Forces did not occupy positions there since the offensive in the Kharkiv Region.

▪️In Volchansk itself, the Russian troops slightly improved their tactical position. The enemy uses drones to strike at positions in the development on Korolenko Street, where the assault teams of the Russian Armed Forces managed to advance by a hundred meters. A similar situation is at the Aggregate Plant, where the AFU are trying to destroy the surviving shops using explosives delivered on tracked platforms.

Also, a few days ago, Russian media reported on the control of the Russian Armed Forces over Sotnitskyi Kozachok and Lukashivka. However, both settlements have changed hands more than once - there is simply nowhere to take up defense there, and under heavy artillery fire, the forces holding them retreat.
