#Epidemics. #Livestock. Cow infected with bluetongue disease in Wümer, #Germany.
#France. #ClimateChange and #Livestock. The paradox of the grazing cow. Can the number of extensive cattle be reduced while preserving meadows by absorbing #CO2? Difficult, if not impossible.

«The Court of Auditors recommended in 2023 to "define a strategy to reduce" the number of cows (17 million heads) in order to achieve France's climate objectives. This report left livestock professionals speechless and inspired researcher Luc Delaby to formulate: “The paradox of the grazing cow”. “The image of ruminants”, he stresses, “has deteriorated and at the same time we continue to praise meadows” for their role in carbon storage, biodiversity preservation and water quality. “But we do not know how to maintain meadows without ruminants. We must resolve this paradox”, continues Luc Delaby during a press visit organised by INRAE».
