Style and Micropolitics in workplaces: CLOSED-PLAN vs. MODIFIED OPEN-PLAN - the Ministry of Transport building complex [above] and the Statoil office building [below] look very similar as they are both composed of five criss-crossing slabs, but the way in which the criss-crossing is planned in each generates very different work environments. In the case of the Ministry of Transport building complex, the five slabs are lifted high above the ground by three concrete cores. The slabs interlock with one another at right-angles at different levels on the steeply sloping site, enabling the surrounding landscape to “flow” beneath. The interior workspaces in each slab are arranged as cellular offices in a double row which provides no flexibility at work or opportunity for social interaction between workers, although the roof of the slabs could be used as exterior terraces for informal gatherings. In the case of the Statoil office building, the slabs are stacked with two sitting at the bottom on the ground, two in the middle, and one at the top, thus enclosing a central covered atrium in which workers can gather informally. The interior workspaces in each slab are arranged as modified open-plan offices – that is, a combination of cellular and open-plan offices, which avoids the long corridor of the Ministry of Transport building complex and provides break-out spaces in the workplace. BIM Unlimited is an international team of individuals led by a desire to create innovative architecture within a collaborative BIM workflow. A number of the team have previous experience of a Build Live competition. The lead architect #Ruben #Fernandez and his team of architects at #Estudio Caribe have created some sophisticated architectural concepts in previous competitions with complex, non standard geometry and the rest of the multidisciplinary team are once again looking forward to responding to these concepts this time around. The major disciplines within the team use a different primary software within their specialist fields of #Architecture, #Structural #Design and Analysis, #MEP Design, Pedestrian Flow Analysis and Environmental Analysis. They exchange their #BIM #models using #IFC . We look forward to seeing what we can create in the short timeframe allowed. #Hyperloop

‍ The idea for this house in Constantia, in the wine country outside Cape Town, came when the owner bought a book on the world’s treehouses and resolved to have one of his own. #malan_vorster, a firm of architects in Cape Town, devised a house which borrows from the structure of trees themselves. The house, which sits on stilts two metres high in a forest clearing, consists of four cylinders, each with a trunk-like column running through its centre and branching at the top to hold up the ceiling. این افزونه گرافیکی در حقیقت نرم افزاری با قابلیت (رابط گرافیکی و مدیریت کننده برای ورود و خروج نقشه ها و اطلاعات در زمینه آنالیز سازه ها پس از ایده پردازی معماران میباشد) . این افزونه قادراست:گره ها، المان ها، مقاطع سازه ای و غیره را در محیط راینو تحلیل نموده و امکان باز تولید المانها و اصلاح آن ها را فراهم آورد. این اطلاعات سپس می توانند به چندین تیپ متفاوت در آنالیز المان محدود (FEA) برای تجزیه و تحلیل سازه ها به کارگرفته شوند

Salamander 3 (by Paul Jeffries)
Salamander 3 enables the #modelling and #parametric generation of #structural analysis and #BIM models.
Salamander (Structural #Analysis Link And MANager for Data Entry & Retrieval) hosts structural nodes, elements, sections and so on within Rhino and allows them to be be created and modified like any other data type. They can then be exported to several different #FEA packages (Robot, GSA and #ETABS currently supported) for analysis.
Features:
- Draw structural #beams, #slabs etc. within Rhino, alongside the #architectural #geometry.
- Create and apply structural properties easily and quickly via the custom interface.
- Specify analysis #loads inside Rhino/Grasshopper.
- Drive model generation parametrically via the linked suite of grasshopper components.
- Maintains a persistant link to parametrically-created geometry - #automatically creating, deleting and updating as required.
- Export, Import and Update #Autodesk Robot models.
- Export and Import #Oasys GSA .#GWA files.
- Export #ETABS models.

Salamander 3 is currently in 'open beta' and relatively early-on in it's development. The current featureset is a small sample of what is planned for the fuller tool.
