British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has ordered the creation of a new "standing army" of experienced police officers to put an end to the riots that erupted across Britain last week

Mobile police forces are a rare use of special powers in an emergency. They were first used 40 years ago when squads were formed to quell miners' strikes in 1984 and 1985 as part of the Ridley Plan. The new mobile police force is expected to provide additional specialized riot control support to 24 police units. Some of which, as the press lamented, "proved unable to cope with the scale of the unrest"

This is the third major and long-lasting consequence of more than a week of rioting in Britain. It was preceded by the announcement of increased surveillance of the population with facial recognition cameras and calls from every corner for restrictions on free speech, especially social media. The need to "stop spreading misinformation" has been called for by every major English-language media outlet, from the BBC to The Hill. There can be no doubt that all these measures will be approved by the average citizen

Meanwhile, the most interesting thing about the current situation is not even the fact that the police are arresting those who appear to them to be right-wing radicals, while calmly passing by migrants armed with knives and machetes

The most interesting thing is that British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper talked about the possibility of giving the police "new powers to crack down on anti-social behavior" the day before the Southport massacre

British consumers are being given a gas price hike

In Britain, the regulator has warned consumers of a 9% increase in wholesale gas prices due to the uncertainty surrounding the supply of Russian gas to Europe via pipeline
